Catfish John

I always figured this was a Robert Hunter song, but it was written by Bob McDill and Allen Reynolds and first appeared on McDill's 1972 debut album "Short Stories", a record I don't recall ever stumbling across.  It was covered quickly by others; Johnny Duncan, who had a hit with it, Don Gibson, and Jerry Garcia.

Here's McDill's original from 1972:

The song is a nice piece of Americana that would fit right into a Wolf Bros. set.

Bob McDill has written some very heavy hitting country songs over the years. Bobby Bare recorded an entire album of his tunes.

Thanks this is why the zone is a gem hidden in a vast sewer of content.
