This is brought to you as a public service for those Zoners who might need some help in attracting more (or any) friends. Apparently drumming works as well, so those of you with drum circle experience have a head start.
Caterpillars Recruit Friends with Anal Scraping
The caterpillars used four different tricks to vibrate leaves. Most commonly, they rubbed the leaf’s surface with stiff bristles on their back ends, a technique called “anal scraping.” They sometimes vibrated their whole bodies while they were anal scraping. At other times, they drummed or scraped their mandibles against the leaf. They made these signals while they were resting, walking, eating, or working on building shelters out of silk.
Solitary caterpillars always made vibration signals before being approached by another caterpillar. The approaching caterpillars didn't make as many signals. And the more often a caterpillar signaled, the sooner it was joined by others.

Well, if the way we felt about the small clique of right wingers @ my Gov't job is any indication, his co workers are probably glad he's busy on social media and not mucking things up by trying to do his job. "At Least He's Doing No Harm"

I can only imagine the horror
I can only imagine the horror that cleaning my gutters this fall will be (I have leaf guards but those are useless against the slime of caterpiller shit, which runs down the roof right into the gutters then presumably solidifies). I'm gonna hafta go all Trump Voter & hire some illegals from the Home Depot parking lot for that job . . .

Wikipedia claims they don't
Wikipedia claims they don't eat maple trees but I see evidence of it - when they run out of oak leaves at least - then they only eat the base of the maple leaf & drop the rest on the ground, making for quite a litter of dead leaves, rivaling autumn time:
