Is cash an appropriate gift for a one year old?

Forums:

Hi I have to go to a birthday party for a one year old and I'm kind of tired of thinking up, acquiring and wrapping gifts at this point. I'm good buddies with the Dad, is it cool if I just slip $100 into an envelope and put the kids name on it? Thanks

You should consider giving the kid the $100 in one dollar bills. That's a classy move.

WTF does a 1 year old really need ? Fed, diapers changed and a semi safe play area - yeah give the parents a hund spot - fucking diapers are an arm and a leg these days

I would get him an assault rifle, but I am from Oklahoma.

I'm gonna give 20's, I'm not a wook

It's for a girl I don't think a gun is gender appropriate

OK I've gone over everyone's input and I'd like to say: thank you MIKEPA for the advice on this matter. You really stepped up and I appreciate it. Cash it is.

At a friend's recent baby shower, the specific thing they requested guests to bring was diapers of different sizes.   They are now stocked for a long time.   If you know the parents are going to be using diapers for at least another year, that is a good way to go instead of just money, provided they use disposable diapers.  Just check with someone who knows what sizes they will need as one year old kids can be really different in size.  Sippy cups are also good for toddlers, especially the high end no BPA "clean canteen" ones.   We got some of those for a couple recent one year old birthday parties.

Savings bond. Thing'll be worth like $123 when she's 18.

A book is always good.

If you're going with cash, at least stuff it into a piggy bank so the kid can play with the gift - without ripping up the cash.

I went with the cash and I put "for diapers or xanax" on it. I brought beer over too.

Nxt time I'll ask you guys earlier I like the answers especially the go to fucking sleep book.

Are your friends poor?

Nancy's suggestion with 100 Sacagaweas would have been perfect.

Hell NO they like to suck on stuff and chew on stuff.

My brother gave my daughter a savings bond when she was one. Some shares in a stock might be rewarding and valuable in the future.

A big YES for the generous cash gift.

I really should buy my brother that book referenced above.  He has an insomniac baby boy.

If the parents need the money it makes sense.

Cash is King.... use it wisely

I think the kid would enjoy lottery tickets a tad more...

it's even more classier if it's given one bill at a time.

This thread is over, the party was yesterday.

Maybe the mods need to step up and kill this thread once and for all.
