California will save us all.
*A RECAP OF THE LAST THREE WEEKS*

AMERICA: Oh my god! Coronavirus! What should we do?
CALIFORNIA: Shut down your state.
AMERICA: Wait... what? Why?
CALIFORNIA: Because 40 million people live here and we did it early, and it’s working.
OHIO: Whoa... whoa... let’s not be hasty now. The president said that this whole coronavirus thing is a democratic hoax.
CALIFORNIA: He also said that windmills cause cancer. Shut down your state.
TEXAS: But the president said that there are only 15 cases and soon there will be zero.
CALIFORNIA: The president can’t count to fifteen. Nor even spell it. Shut down your state.
NEW JERSEY: Us too?
CALIFORNIA: Yes, you guys too. Just like when Christie shut down the bridge, but it’s your whole state.
FLORIDA: But what about all these kids here on spring break?? They spend a lot of money here!
CALIFORNIA: Those kids invented the tide pod challenge. Shut down your state.
LOUISIANA: But wait let’s have Mardi Gras first. It entertains people.
CALIFORNIA: It also kills them. Shut it down.
GEORGIA: Ok well how about we keep the state open for all of our mega churches? Maybe we can all pray really hard until the coronavirus just goes away!
CALIFORNIA: Which is working like a charm for mass shootings. Jesus told us to tell you to shut down your state.
OKLAHOMA: What about the tigers?
CALIFORNIA: What about a dentist. Shut it down.
WYOMING: Hold up, maybe we should go county by county like the president said.
CALIFORNIA: Stop acting like there are counties in Wyoming. There are no counties in Wyoming. Wyoming is a county. Shut it down.
PENNSYLVANIA: But big coal.
CALIFORNIA: But big death. Shut it.
WEST VIRGINIA: But we were the last state to get coronavirus!
CALIFORNIA: And don’t make us explain to you why that was. Shut it down.
NORTH CAROLINA: But the republican national convention is coming here!
CALIFORNIA: SHUT... ok fine do what you want.

Gavin understands what his job is.

Many may disagree with his politics, but he's a leader, and we need leaders right now.

Real leaders, not megalomaniac half-wits.

Or off-brand butt plugs (credit to Tommy Lee for that one).

they never seem to fit right, Lance.  bobo butt plugs no es bueno

LOL

I thought this was a primo bud thread

Not Again...

That's a crack-up. Did you write that Treble? It's great

Newsom or Cuomo should be running for president. Both are sharp fucking guys.

And then we have Joe fucking Biden; who has been a bump on the log and brought absolutely zero to the table during the crisis.

Gravy, what's up? Hope you stick around.

Cool with me , all the above and we all need a miracle.

Be safe Omahaions

I like how they say California is flattening the curve.  Gavin, and Garcetti having their “Mission Accomplished” moments while stroking eachother.  why don’t they talk about California having the largest backlog in test results in the country.  If Tests don’t come back quick the numbers are irrelevant.  If the numbers are irrelevant they can’t say we are winning.  The surge will be here 4/26.

How’s that for some hysterical fear mongering.

gavins a bitch.

On a side note...

The Megalomaniac Half-Wits

The Off-Brand Butt Plugs

Two good band names.

We’ve started a game, take a shot everytime governor aquanet says “in real time” or “long winded” you take a shot.

idiot

Racket seems to think Newsom should have kept all of California wide open through all this.

Racket is a funny guy.

Yes, I'd image the biggest state has the biggest backlog due to someone not planning ahead like he could have.

Racket, can you clarify what Gavin is actually doing wrong?

BTW: It's nice to see the Hayward Fire Department testing someone with a Nevada license plate.

We're all in this together.

All I’m saying is that because the back log is so large, the numbers don’t work at all.  The surge is still coming, and Garcetti and Newsom need to stop claiming victory.  Wait until testing gets to about 24 hour turnaround, you will then see the surge.  My bro is an MD in a hospital with 300 beds.  Guess how many vents they have?  Guess how many are already in use.?

Playing a game the popular throwing sticks and stones will break my bones and calling names is very popular on the zone..

wanna bet?

will the death rate be higher in "republican states"?

how will southern states fare?

are republicans or democrats smarter? ( love this one )

did the Grateful Dead come from, and live in California? Does that (among so many other things)  make California the golden state?

leadership starts with "L" and requires action and actually doing something   It is hard to lead from the rear     Or with your head up your rear.,

god help us all

They’re already using 30 of their 34 vents and I’d imagine many hospitals are in the same predicament across the state.  Once the beds are full and the vents are at capacity the surge is here.  Hopefully virgin orbit gets those jimmy rigged vents approved and built quick.  Designed at UCI and going to be made in Long Beach.

I'm certainly no expert on everything going on and I've been avoiding the news the last few days, but I haven't seen Newsom spending an inordinate amount of time congratulating himself on a "mission accomplished" type deal or whatever.

It seems to me that he mostly has been fairly pro-active, shutting schools and being realistic two weeks ago with telling everyone schools likely wouldn't re-open this year, when no one wanted to hear that, on getting auxiliary hospitals set up in convention centers and such, working to re-open closed hospitals, rallying retired medical professionals & med students to join the fight, and generally trying to prepare for the worst that's yet to come, which it seems to me is what he's been saying since this thing started.

He's a politician after all and he's not perfect, but it seems that he's mostly just been doing his job, as apposed to a certain national leader who spends 100% of his time covering his ass, blaming everyone else for mistakes and taking credit for EVERYthing, including all the things he says that are completely untrue.

Newsom may be a bitch, but when things get tough sometimes it's best to have a bitch in charge.

Carry on.

"A bitch"

or a "moron"

I am glad the bitch is in charge. And your "opinions " irrelevant

> Garcetti and Newsom need to stop claiming victory
Source please. I have been watching the guv and haven't heard this. Watched the LA mayor tonight and did not hear this either.
I did hear Newsome speak about the testing backlog and also say the state is preparing for larger numbers because of this and other public health advisories.
I haven't heard from anyone in authority in California say or intimate that we are out of the woods on this.
While, I don't usually trust what any politician says, I will say the press conferences coming from these guys and the governor of NY sound much more informational than anything I've heard from the president's "breifings". In fact, I can't even watch those any more. It's hard to glean important info when the dialog digresses to so much unrelated subject matter. I find it's better to hear something on the news after members of his team make statements clarifying what they think he was trying to say or what they think he meant to say. Since this began, information coming from federal side of things appear to me to be all over the place.
I know one thing. Until scientists and medical professionals come up with solutions to treat or at least mitigate the virus, I'm staying home and away from human contact as much as possible.
I hope everyone can avoid contracting the disease from this virus and can stay healthy. Take care.

It sad to read that your brother's hospital is using 30 of their 34 vents, Racket. And I'm sure you're right that many hospitals are in the same predicament, not just across the state but in many states. And those that aren't most certainly will be. As an "elderly" person with added risk factors, the lack of adequate equipment scares the shit out of me, and I can't imagine what it's like to be a medical person trying to help/treat patients...

Take care and stay safe, Judit.

Dear Treeflo, thank you. There's a big difference between thinking I'm an elder and being told I'm elderly.

Big hug for you, for Mylar, for all the sweet people, and stay safe yourself.

I was at Marin General Hospital yesterday.

It was great, because it was the first time I've been able to be with my wife in 3 weeks.

That short amount of time I was able to be with her was the best thing that's happened to us in a while.

I hope everyone is as good as they can be.

Yeah, BTW, BIG thumbs-up to Racket's brother and all the other front line fighters.

We're all in a war here. The enemy is all around us, but it's Racket's bro and all those other health care providers who are on the front lines facing the live fire.

I'm sure you're worried about your brother Racket. We're all appreciative and rooting for him and his brothers & sisters on the line.

Beautiful. All good things to you and your family.

Atta' boy Local.

We learn to appreciate more when we don't have what we usually have.

As bad and strange as this all is, good will come out of this as well.

(And maybe not all of it will be short-term)

Thank you very much Judit.

A trying time to be sure.

All the best to you and yours.

And thanks for your part in keeping this site going, I really appreciate it, fuck the naysayers!

Thanks Lance. It's rough, but I wasn't the one who had to have my head in an MRI machine for a half-hour yesterday.

Thankfully she's a tough one who's been through some shit before.

I'm sure we'll come through this in the wash, but it's a weird time to be dealing with health issues.

I hope to see you at a Phil show soon!

If Wuhan's example is the norm, we're all in for a ten week lockdown to stop community spread.  They are just starting to reopen their society there and are reporting no new local cases.    Even after that, until this thing is contained internationally, the chance for new outbreaks will remain, and even where things are "reopened",  travel restrictions will surely remain.  Without universal testing and/or the development of a vaccine, it's going to be a while until things begin to feel close to normal again.

There are still a handful of states here that have not shutdown yet, and there are a few countries, such as Belarus, where the leaders are still viewing this as a hoax and thinking their people can out-tough the virus.  Those fools will slow the global recovery.

My understanding is that the data out of Wuhan and China in general is highly questionable and that the reopening has a large political and economic drive behind it, rather than being based strictly on the reality of the disease, but admittedly I haven't read that much on it - I'm kinda burned out already on Coronavirus news.

Here in Chile and in the Southern Hemisphere in general we seem to be up shit creek because of winter coming soon. So our first peak of cases will likely hit by early May but then a second round is almost inevitable in late June - mid July. It's not looking like we'll be out of quarantine till potentially August. That kinda freaks me out. Mostly for my kids, honestly. While the weeks go by quickly for me since I have lots of work, and my kids have been staying busy and are doing fine, I really feel sad about them not being able to run and play and push and pull each other and their friends like normal kids should. I wonder what the effects are, like children who grew up during WWII - what will be the long term result of children who had to spend 4 to 6 months in quarantine only talking to friends by zoom or whatever. Like I said, my kids are healthy and happy and I intend to do everything in my power to ensure that continues. But I just want them to be on a playground again. Even the local park by my house has a sign on it warning people away from the jungle gym and toys. It's really sad...

And I have no idea what California is or isn't doing but I do know that the numbers reliability depends greatly an a) how much testing is being done and b) how fast the results come back. One reason Chile has relatively high numbers right now is because the government has been doing a ton of testing with fast turn around time. So even though the numbers are high-ish, the results are good because people are getting the treatment they need and everyone's locked away at home. We'll see what happens in the next few weeks...
