California Kind w/special guest David Nelson tonight at the Sweetwater

On the  fence. Mill Valley just  seems so far away nowadays. Terrapin would've been much easier for us...have a blast all that make it...

good to see nelson gettin' out!

I'll be seeing Stu Allen at TXR tonight with Jordan, Murph and Greg Anton (of Zero) doing a Led Zeppelin Tribute.

So glad that Nelson is doing this!

That thing about Mill Valley seeming far is true for me, too. When I'm in the Bay Area TXR is in the perfect place, Mill Valley feels way too far. I want to see Shakey Zimmerman when they're at Sweetwater in May but don't know that I'll make the trip.

Glad David Nelson is well enough to gig, but I'm not that interested in this show. I think California Kind is a mediocre band, even with David sitting in. Obviously a group of excellent musicians, and the music certainly isn't bad, but for whatever reasons they don't inspire me to go to the show. Not sure exactly why. I like Rob Baracco a lot, and think he plays well with The Trio. Katie Skene is a good guitar player, has a nice voice, and looks beautiful, but somehow bores me as a performer. I admit that I enjoyed her slight wardrobe malfunction a few months ago at the San Rafael JCC, and that I am a dirty old man.  YMMV.

i think its cute when locals don't travel an hr....

Waiting for the family OK.  So far this week I've seen Stu, Ezra, Gubes, Rashap (Monday - free), Stu, Angelina Saris, Danny Eisenberg, & Jeremy Hoenig (Tuesday - free), and Roger Daltrey (Last night - $6.00).

$25 seems kinda expensive... wink

I heard the Daltrey show was good, and better than my friend expected.

please elaborate thank you

Budboy will travel 150 miles to attend this shoe........10 more miles & I would have to stay home.......Ha!

Seriously, what the hell r u guys talking about?

is the sweetwater even a full 20 min away from txr?

not enough advance notice for me to properly plan ahead to hit this show...

6-hour drive each way, for 2.5 hours of music that is almost -- but not quite -- DNB

wonder if this gig will be like other CK shows where David has been added to the lineup... CK without David in the 1st set, & CK with David in the 2nd

BB -- any possibility of Radio DNB for tonight?

^^Seriously!!!  I really need to go, no matter how tired I am.

^^^^^Lance, I've never seen Roger before and was on the fence about going.  The Who was one of my Dad's favorite bands and "Tommy" was his absolute favorite album (well, Sgt Pepper's may have been tied for that honour).

Sure enough, he started with the Tommy instrumental medley into a powerful "Pinball Wizard."

Lots of room to roam and I alternated between sitting in the Mezzanine, running up and down stairs (inside the theater and out in the lobby area), and dancing at the top of the Balcony.

The Who classics really rocked (and it was a real treat seeing Daltrey wail on the harmonica during Teenage Wasteland) and even when the crooning appeared to b a bit cheesy (on the more modern ballady tunes), he still had that distinctive, iconic voice.  And he still swings that microphone around like a genuine rodeo cowboy.  Good times!

Also, Leslie Mendelson (with another acoustic guitarist/vocalist) filled the Fox with gorgeous sounds.

I'm hoping to see a few familiar Maniacs at the Sweetwater tonight!

^Looks like they'll be streaming the Nelson Kind show on the Sweetwater Facebook page.

Happy Friday!

I'm thinking of skipping the Katie Skene set and catching Stu and then going to Sweetwater for the Nelson set....

There was not enough lead time for me either, Gfish.

The show is supposed to have video coverage on the Sweetwater's FB page:

I'm just not drawn to CK. I think I would be if there were only instrumentals.

Have fun tonight, wherever you are (stream, there in person, streaming Phil, wherever).

No Radio DNB Gary, but I think the Sweetwater does a facecrap/youshit streamy thingy thingy.....check their website for details........slacker.........wink

thx for the link for the stream/webcast

have fun out there, ya freaks cheeky

Too tired to go out, but I'm enjoying the stream.  Thanks, Sweetwater!

Thanks

I'm happy to say that I'm enjoying this evening's music more than I have in the past.

It's so good to hear David again. Long may you run.

The Nelson set is so good! Seems like they're having fun, and I know I am.

He looks very healthy!

E, I realized that it wasn't really the distance that is causing me to question going to the Sweetwater, it's where will I park... I've been there in the daytime and pretty much seen what is where, but that's what seems daunting. I hope to go in May and get past that.

Getting to the Sweetwater entails about ten-fifteen minutes of slow street driving up into the town, while TxR is right next to the freeway, so there's a certain image of extra hassle to get into Mill Valley, but it really is mostly image over reality.

Parking can be tricky in Mill Valley, especially on Friday & Saturday evenings, but there's always a spot one place or another around the town, and it's such a cool little village to walk through I never mind being parked blocks away from the Sweetwater.

(That's about the extent of my "hiking" desires though, unlike that torture thread going on for Turtle)

I love California Kind!

I love DNB!

I always enjoy shows at Sweetwater!

Judit... if you make it down in May for our Dylan Birthday show. You can be my guest!

Thanks, Pat, I remember you were kind enough to offer that. I hope to see you in May.
