Horrible.

That must have been so terrifying. Sad.

5 crew survived, one below deck?

5 crew jumped off boat without trying to fight fire or open door to lower deck?

sorry if i seem to blame crew.

deserts are nice.

Please do not blame this crew!

I have done 4 different 3-4 live aboard trips out of Ventura in the early 2000's.

These are not luxury  cruise dive ships.

I have not been on "Conception". However did trips on the "Peace" boat its sister boat.

All of the sleeping  bunks are in the lower hull.Just above the motor/etc.

There is only one tiny  staircase to the deck.

The crew quarters are on the top deck.

They are the most concerned and always having your safety in mind....

Even if you are a experoenced diver.

Not to blame this crew!

You are ignorant to feel blame on this crew!

Apparentaly those who are critical have  ever been on a dive boat!

By the way,Channel Islands, which is Catalina,Santa Cruz,Santa Rosa and others.....

Some of the most awesome diving, lobster & scallop gather.

Also great kayak/camping.

I am getting personal emails fro  my tight knit dive world commuity, because it is so well loved.

I am not a photo poster expert,so maybe  Judit could post some ole photos for me from my dive trips to Channel Isles.

Avoidable or not this is just so terrible it hurts. Prayers go out to all involved and their loved ones.

yeah weird story. tragic.

oh, man.  not good.

Horrible situation.  Unless the owners knew of mechanical issues you can't blame anyone. The sea is unforgiving. When you board a boat you take that into account.

Peace to everyone involved.

They were anchored 20 yards from shore?

Smoke detectors?

> They were anchored 20 yards from shore?

Beaches are beaches for a reason.  This wasn't a beach. Depths get real big real quick.

>Smoke detectors?

When you're trapped under a boat smoke detectors aren't going to do much.
