...just not peyote (it's in short supply).
What? Kids nowadays already have it too easy with legal weed. What fun are drugs without that bit of paranoia? The outlaw edge keeps one on one's toes.
"This bill, unveiled on Thursday, would decriminalize possession and personal use of psilocybin, psilocyn, MDMA, LSD, ketamine, DMT, mescaline and ibogaine – all drugs that can be used for medical treatment. While the decriminalization would apply for any kind of possession or use, not just medical, the bill makes a point to tout the medical benefits of psychedelics, a strategy familiar to drug policy reform advocates."

If it's a way to
If it's a way to decriminalize that won't result in hard drug dispenseries then im all for it.
The problem is when government gets involved basically just to tax and make money off it.
That's where, nationwide. .they need to decriminalize weed BUT it ends there. leave it up to the state or county if they want to allow for dispensaries. Personally, I don't think they are needed.
Allow for grow stores to operate and seedbanks...but commercially, I'm against it. I think it should be handled like farmers markets, or roadside stands. Basically. That keeps out the regulations and rules that prevent small business types from being able to exist.
And you should be able to grow at home, of course, without government intervention. ..just like anyone with a garden growing vegetables would be able to do.
And honesty the dispensaries selling $65 eights aren't really helping or reaching the low income black neighborhoods anyway. Most of those businesses aren't 'black owned' , they are out-of-towners..and it's too expensive for the good bud for low income people to buy..so it's disingenuous to pretend like reaching those that live in the poor neighborhoods as well.
But if it were decriminalized federally then at least people won't be going to jail on felony charges.
But once more people can grow their own without government oversight then the problem will take care of itself.
The problem is that one of the main reasons to legalize weed is to regulate it and furthermore they intend to ramp up 'driving under the influence of marijuana' laws which will only add to the reasons that you can get into trouble with weed.
Personally I don't think it impairs my driving. But I don't eat edibles. .maybe someone half conscious driving recklessly because of too many pot brownies might get arrested for 'reckless driving' , arrested then tossed in the clink overnight to sober up. But it ends there.
Impaired driving laws are rooted in racism.

Personally, I don't want to be on the road with someone who just blazed a fatty of 28% OG Kush, or did a couple of massive dabs of 96% shatter.
A lot of people say that they are fine to drive with 0.08 BAL. I don't want them on the roads with me either, however "fine" they are.

Gentleman, gentleman, stick
Gentleman, gentleman, stick to the topic at hand -- psychedelics. (Greg - seriously, do you have ADD?)
What's the latest from Oregon regarding decriminalization? I haven't heard any news from DC. I guess law enforcement has been busy with other stuff.
Re your dispensary thoughts: I'd pay $10 for a hit of government regulated, corporate manufactured, known dose 2CB. Too many strange white powders floating around nowadays.

It's a big huge nothing burger.
A few folks are not having to go to jail.
In our county (pop. about 95K, jail capacity 40), the jail is always full so minor possession is always a citation anyway.

For this to pass, I'm guessing it would require the governor to sign on, and I don't know if Gavin Newsom would do that while he's facing a recall vote. That said, it's a change that should have happened a long time ago.

I find the potential cultural
I find the potential cultural shift particularly interesting if this catches on.
Since fear is a big instigator in "bad trips" (fear of losing one's mind, fear of entering one's mind, fear of talking to your boss's boss while zooming at the company picnic etc.), what's going to happen to the collective psyche when the average tripper doesn't havta worry about getting busted. One less thing to stress about. That's gotta be good, right? Less mental baggage for the individual. Less people in jail for society.
It's an America that hasn't happened for a while ( On October 24, 1968, possession of LSD was made illegal in the United States) and things are a little different now. But when acid was legal* there was a profound cultural effect...maybe it was a coincidence. Maybe not.
Or will the lack of law enforcement enable more less-prepared minds to experiment. And create additiional havoc?
* I realize we are talking decriminalization, not legalization.
(Please excuse if I'm babbling, but we re having a snow day here -- I should really get off the computer and go out and shovel instead of lay on the couch.)

Haven't noticed any difference. But then again, I am not into "hard drugs" and only eat mushrooms about twice a year. I guess it will be cool not to have to worry about getting caught with shrooms once music fests return, but the big difference is probably on the street level with all the unhoused people doing meth and smack not getting thrown in jail for it.

Well, I sat down in my closet with all my overalls
Tryin' to get away from all the ears inside my walls
I dreamed the police heard everything I thought, what then?
Well I went to court and the judge's name was Hoffman

I would, but I ran out:-(
As far as decriminalizing, hopefully the wave of recreational marijuana will help to accelerate the acceptance of other drugs, particularly MDMA and LSD.

Vermont has been slow to
Vermont has been slow to institute rec sales for this very reason. I'm not that up on it, and I know ogkb knows way more and can fill in the blanks, but they've been wrestling with how to not have it fall to agribusiness. Either way, it's coming.
My town is debating whether or not to become "Vermont's pot mecca," or some such shit. People are all up in arms that people may smoke in their cars. My response it that in a half block radius there are 6 places where people are drinking 9-12% beers and mixed drinks, so I'm not worried about 1 or 2 pot shops, where people park, buy their shit, and then leave. And then there are the, "but what about the kids," people. Again, there's beer and booze everywhere. The whole point of legalization is to normalize what people are already doing. The kids will be fine.
