Buffy Sainte Marie

Forums:

I just watched her biopic on PBS and recommended it in the What Are You Watching folder but decided to start a thread. It was recommended to me and I was just not moved to check it out because while I knew the name, I couldn't think of a single song she wrote.

She is so much more than a song writer and musician and I am so impressed with the life she lived. Musician, activist, actor, artist, mother, trauma survivor - the list goes on and the appreciation and love for her expressed by Joni Mitchell, Taj Mahal, and Robbie Robertson is deep.

Three thumbs up.

looks good, thanks

I've had the pleasure of seeing her live a couple of times, most recently in 2021.  She played a full-on rock show, jumping around the stage in tight leather pants and all. Pretty remarkable at her age. She's a hero, for sure.

Just saw her last night on PBS.

Had an old album called Bread and Roses of a live folk show from the Greek. Berkeley maybe from 1979. She was on it with a lot of folk legends.

Love Buffy.

See her in concert if you get the chance.

I had the pleasure of meeting her a few years ago after a show. She was beautiful and charming and showed interest in conversation and listening to a random admirer. Not a bit of rock star arrogance, and she's a lot more than that ~ a social warrior who illuminates heavy human and natural issues in her songs. She is a legend.

I watched it a couple of weeks ago and mentioned it in the What Are You Watching thread, too. And as Stringtwang mentioned, she's lived an amazingly full and meaningful life.

She was an important part of my teens and though I couldn't find it just now I got her first album when it came out - I needed her then. I still do, now.
