PBS did an American Masters episode on him just the other night.

I saw Buddy at the Avila Blues Fest a couple of years ago. Dude tore it up, and spent about 5-10 minutes or so walking around out in the crowd playing an extended solo.

Seen him at many venues over the decades including the Checkerboard Lounge and Legends,, but the times at the oooooold Lone Star Cafe in NYC with Jr Wells were some of my best times ever. On the Experience Hendrix tours he really shined,, he always shines like the sun. Possibly the best moments at a Buddy show on tour are when he searches out small children in the crowd with their parents and takes the childs hand to strum his guitar strings while he fingers the neck to the most smokin hot blues licks, and then he beems these huge loving warm smiles because of the looks of amazement on the kids faces. If you've never seen Buddy you're shortchanging your life.

Thanks for remembering Bss

We saw him in Long Beach, 2004. Good stuff.

Go to the show. Buddy still kills it.

Love when he plays 110% in the style of other guitar giants!

But did he have soul?

I saw Buddy Guy open for Blues Traveler at SIU (1992). Great seats, third row center.
Buddy Guy was all over the place up and down the aisles in the balcony, great show!

First time I saw Buddy was at the Filene Center at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia in the early 90's on a bill sandwiched between John Hammond and John Lee Hooker.  His set was the weakest that night, as he overplayed and was too focused on flashy Hendrix-style pyrotechnics.

The next time I caught him was as the opening act for The Rolling Stones on the Zip Code Tour at the Marcus Amphitheatre in Milwaukee.  He was outstanding that night, showing his deep Electric Chicago Blues roots.  He joined the Stones during their set for a memorable  Champagne & Reefer.

The last time I caught him was at the 2017 Jazzfest in New Orleans.  He was very loud that day, and did the walk out into the crowd while playing routine.  It was there that I realized what a short person he is.  In that heat, and on such a big stage (the Acura Stage is the biggest stage at Jazzfest), I was impressed at his strong presence at his advanced age.  Dude's a force of nature.  Happy Birthday Buddy!
