A plant based diet - and certainly eliminating processed foods and meat -    is much better for the environment, immunity,  and overall health. I know, the bacon etc  tastes good but there are healthier alternatives that won't kill you. The cardiologists also  preach going vegan can prevent  heart disease too.  Carry on, be well, and enjoy every sandwich whatever you chose.

My morning breakfast is oatmeal with a drizzle of maple syrup. And I do love bacon flavoring so about once a week  I indulge with some vegan 'bacon'

Amen Nancy. My labs and BMI are the best they've been since high school. My goal of getting to 50 in better shape then 25 was successful partly due to a whole food plant based diet. Never felt better

I hate BMI as an index of anything. My BMI has me borderline obese. It doesn't take into account that, at almost 52, I'm stronger and healthier than I've been in my life, with substantially more muscle. I wear a 32" waist, for Christ sakes. About 20 years ago I weighed the same, but with a 36" waist. The difference is body fat. I'm probably in the 18-20% range, a bit lower in Summer. My resting heart rate is just under 60, which is excellent for an old fuck like me.

Here's my lovely breakfast:

- 1/2 scoop of whey protein isolate

-1/2 scoop bone broth powder

- 1 tsp spirulina

- 2 heaping tsp raw psyllium husks

- 2-3 oz chocolate oatmeal milk (to counteract the spirulina. no spirulina, water only)

- 6-8 oz water

I'm one boring mofo!

I mostly gave up processed meat ,eggs, and white flour tortillas for breakfast.  Trying to get blood sugar and cholesterol at levels that don't give the pharmaceutical  and factory meat industries a reason to salivate.  Natural peanut butter on Ezekiel bread took its place.  I know, very exciting...

Had scrapple for breakfast this morning. So yummy.

Never found a good faux bacon, but there are some really good fake sausages out there.  Morningstar are the best and they just went 100% vegan.    Sausage is so processed to begin with that its easy to replicate it using plant based ingredients.

Still waiting for the plant based scrapple.   Never had it, but my partner is from Philly and she has told me all about it.

Agreed, it's only one way to categorize body mass but is useful in health care to assign reasonable risk. At 165 lbs and 5'11" my BMI is right where I want it but as a diagnostic tool it's only a starting point for the very reason you point out

problem with Morningstar is that much of it is vegetarian not vegan so have to look closely

No meat for me this morning, and I rarely indulge in breakfast meats anymore. A hard boiled egg, a couple of slices of whole grain toast with butter, a couple of mandarins, and a cup of Lemon ZInger got me going today.

I don't mind the taste of most fake meats, but damn, they are so processed that it's nuts. I also don't do well with all the wheat gluten and soy protein in them. So, if I eat meat, it's generally local and organic, and if I eat veggie, it'll be lentils or the likes.

There are a couple that use pea protein, I'd go for those over gluten or soy if I were to buy any. Occasionally I'll buy some because my kids like meatballs. Lentils are the ticket tho imho!

have a hard time eating rich or salty foods in the morning.

As an omnivore, if I want something that looks, tastes and feels like meat, I have the luxury of eating meat. I made some killer lentil burgers last week, and I do a vegan shepherd's pie that kicks ass.

Hüsky had a nice meaty Lamb shank for breakfast,  which he stole.  I left it in the Cold room and forgot to latch the door. It was for H.I.M. anyway,  but he took an advance Meal. Loco-vore to the Max;  those Sheep lived and died here on the Farm.  No chemicals and Sheep drugs.

I had a Larabar and Coffee,  so He basically has a better diet.

Sausage, so many forms of it and all of them so wonderful. I would like to start making my own once I have the time. I think the thing I look most forward to in retiring is buying fresh food and cooking each day fresh, looking forward to making bread, pasta, and sausage. Also timing my trip to Publix according to when the bread is hot and fresh, and the best produce is out there. Yes I will be at the door waiting for it to open.

Recent heart cath experience.  Good news, no stent, balloon, or surgery, just generic lipitor.

At the moment and likely permanent, only chicken sausage that I make at home in very small amounts

In the last year I went from eating red meat 8-10 meals a week to 1-2 x. It had become a little much.

>>>>if I eat meat, it's generally local and organic

Although I don't consume commercially harvested animal products, I will eat wild fish and game that I catch myself or know who harvested it.    My first wife's father was a bona fide horse riding Wyoming cowboy who moonlighted as a hunting guide.   We always had a freezer full of antelope, including lots of antelope sausage.   Good stuff.

Slightly related to the Topic of 'Breakfast Meat' -- I've considered raising Hogs here just for the Food,  not pets.
Someone was trying to tell me that Domestic Hogs who escape captivity mutate into Wild Boar.

It sounds far-fetched,  but someone here would know about this.

Similar to a first set Franklin's Tower, meat is the morning is too triumphant, too early. The placement just doesn't feel right.

>>>>Someone was trying to tell me that Domestic Hogs who escape captivity mutate into Wild Boar.

They would be "feral pigs" but wild boar are descendants of escaped pigs:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_boar

Wild boars are a considered a nuisance animal in many places and I wouldn't mind converting one into racks of bacon.

Hope is a good breakfast, but it's a bad supper.

- Francis Bacon

.

I like to take a nice portion of Ground Venison,  mix in a beaten Egg or two, add a few dashes of Tabasco or Tapatio, and cook the resulting Deer patties until they're just right.

That's a good  Breakfast Snack.

Aig, there are worse things, glad you got the best of news

Actually this topic is making me Very Hungry.  Maybe I'll cook some more Bambi,  but definitely Yukon Gold Fries soon.

Four. Dollar. Bacon.

If it's more than that per/lb, I get the pork roll.  I used to buy the big bulk roll, but since Da Boy moved out it's not a good idea to have that much in the house at one time.

Cartoonist Keith Knight on bacon (paraphrased):  Enjoy bacon but don't keep it in the home.

For reasons, I believe, relating to will power and kitchen safety.

For sure.. I eat two cans of hash a week and about a pound of bacon with my 24 eggs.  I know it's not the best but I do eat organic fruits and veggies daily as well and generally prepare my meals from scratch with healthy ingredients.  I get healthierrr bacon, I think.  I eat out once a week- getting a carnitas burrito.

Air-fryer makes great Bacon slices.  I know, it is a "Convection Toaster Oven",  but it produces a perfect Rasher of Bacon.

Better than a skillet, less maintenance / Bacon flipping.

 brian k is nearly obese?

32" waist and "nearly obese." Figure that one out.

Steak eggs and a bloody on a Sunday 10:00 am west coast football morning in a bowling alley bar.

Been decades.

Breakfast Meat could be just Good, Clean Fun.

Bacon with a Side of Pork Chops.

Better yet, Venison burger mixed with an Egg or two,  and cooked to Perfection.

Thanks sky, I am lucky.

Goat Meal

^Goat is some tasty stuff.  "Birria" is Mexican version,  Jamaicans do the "Curry Goat" stew.

Indian restaurants have their Curry version also.

Always lots of bones in the mix.  Either someone's hoarding the Goat fillets, or that's how Goat meat happens.

Why would vegans post in a meat thread? Like anybody gives a fuck.

Why? Maybe try reading the posts from the vegans who posted on this thread, Mark. And really, why the fuck does it bother you what anyone posts on a thread like this? Anger isn't any better for your heart health than the crap processed meats. Be well.

Any Vegan post made here still contributed more to the thread topic than your post did, mark

> Why would vegans post in a meat thread?

They've got some skin in the game?

I eat real food. Grass fed or pasture raised organic meats.   Most of the time.........

Just tired of vegans holier than thou bullshit.

Wonder if any of the Donner Party were vegans?

Yawn, another angry elf.... Folks just love to be outraged...

Not any of the survivors

Decades ago when I moved to Oregon and went on some multi-day hikes with backpack and Coleman stove,  the best "Breakfast Meat"  would be the first good Diner and their "Chicken-Fried Steak".

Actually,  it's some Burger-ish beef fried up and doused in gray sausage Gravy.  After a Few days munching granola and oats and walking a lot, and sleeping in the bushes,  that stuff tasted Great.

Black pudding.

Our butcher made lamb sausage with provolone cheese, parsley and other secret things.

My god that was good.

$5.49 a pound

> Why would vegans post in a meat thread?

Nut meats mixed with flaxseed, sesame seeds bananas cinnamon and raisins/blueberries with a splash of almond milk is a great pre workout breakfast

that better?

Last year a friend gave me a couple of pounds of goose/cheddar kielbasa that was unreal.

Yogurt , green figs, -- coffee--very black

No love for chorizo?

>>>>No love for chorizo?

Grocery Outlet sometimes has faux chorizo for two dollars a pound.  Some of the best fake meat prices out there.

Our local Grocery Outlet carries a ton of vegan products - they special order in bulk for a local vegan Food Bank that serves the community. An anonymous vegan philanthropist set it up about a year ago. Everything from vegan ice cream to sausages. The SoDelicious oat milk ice cream was .99 a pint, regularly $6. And Coconut Bliss for $2. Many other Quality brands too, a for very low prices
