Breakfast Burritos

Forums:

Heading up to Yosemite tomorrow morning.  Want to hit the road about 5-6am so I'm twisting up burritos tonight and will heat them up on the old Coleman stove when we get there.

Mine: Eggs, tater tots, refried beans, sausage, bacon, cheese, and fresh jalapenos.  El Salvadorian cream on the side.

Wife: Eggs, tater tots, Mexican rice, beans, onion, cheese, and fresh habanero

Kids: Eggs, sausage, bacon, and cheese.

What's everybody like in theirs?

Man, your kids are hard core, sausage AND bacon!

for mine: Eggs, Salvadorian chorizo, refried black beans, new potatoes, monterrey jack cheese, salsa roja

I Like them with Bacon no sausage wheat tortillas  and Fresh green jalapenos / hoover your choice sounds good + oj and Coffees - have a great trip ! Stay Warm !

fwiw,  i'm sorta fascinated by folks I know from the southwest who prefer tater tots and Fritos to regular taters and tortillas

Tater Tots a Potato with Crrunch ! smiley

>>>>>fwiw,  i'm sorta fascinated by folks I know from the southwest who prefer tater tots and Fritos to regular taters and tortillas

I prefer potatoes but they need to be diced really small and most places don't do it like that.  In San Diego most places use french fries (which I like).  I've never used tater tots before.  They're saving me from going to the store.  I cooked them and cut them in half.  I've got a good feeling about this burrito.

How do you substitute Fritos for tortillas?  Weird.  Not really a big Frito guy anyway.

I would never eat them after they sat in the frig all night, then moved to a cooler in the car, then reheated. No thanks.

I do sheets of shredded hash browns in the cast iron pan.
They roll more as a layer in the wrap than the tots might.
In both cases you get nice oily surface-area crunch.

I like your planning style, Hoovs.

What kind of hot sauce you guys like with your burrito? Mostly El Yucateco habanero for me, but sometimes will go with the pedestrian Tapatio or Chulula.

Fritos are good for 1 thing -  Authentic  Chalupa

I Forgot  shredded hash browns they rule as well

If you place them properly foil wrapped near the engine block, you can heat them on the last 10 miles or so of the drive.....

Good thing you're not coming with us.

Fritos instead of plain tortilla chips in nachos or haystacks or whatever you might call loose piles of stuff, for example

I buy a couple varieties from Mendozas taco truck in my neighborhood every few weeks.  Also like Don't Pear The Reaper by Paulman Acre ( http://paulmanacre.com/ )

I used the engine block to heat burritos one time when my buddy and i got my Jeep stuck up in Mendocino county.. we were stuck in a torrential downpour overnight in the vehicle, but had tons of moonshine, firearms, kind buds and burritos..

I think that's a Mormon thing.

I got it from Mexicans and salvadorans

What's wrong with American cream and American chorizo you liberal bastards?

USA USA USA!

(just kidding; hey Hoovs, 'sup dude?)

POSTHEAD!

the calories contained in 1 wheat tortilla is quite amazing

grilled organic onions, organic pasture raised eggs, organic cheese, organic refried black beans,  organic cheese, green Tobasco, organic cheese.

Calories Are Good = Fuel

BBs maybe 1once or 2wice a Month if that - I Love Eggs though and eat them often mostly w/out the yolk as 99 year old Bea (rip) in isla vista told me Eat Eggs.  she had like a million Owls in every fashion all over her pad Super nice - Wise one.

Never beans in my breakfast burrito and always MASHED potatoes.

sausage/ham/bacon

mashed potatoes

cheese

scrambled eggs

if you don't know now you know.

I'd pair all of these burritos with an Almanac Craft Pilsner.

mashed potatoes and manteca is all day

The daughter and I are ready to roll.  Looks like we're gonna have to wake up the wife and son.

>Calories Are Good = Fuel

yup! all the more reason to be sensible about it

Thanks for reminding me of all that Bacon that needs  frying !!

Gluten-free for the moment; Blue Corn organic tortillas in the fridge. Not conscientously avoiding the Gluten, but I really like those BCT's. So no gmo Wheat tortillas in the fridge.

Maybe I'll fry up some Beans in the Bacon fat, and then mix it with the Hüsky food.  I've started rationing in a new Kibble, so all that lardicious balance of protein & Fat will help to maintain his delicate constitution and fluffy Coat.

I like making refried beans in a little bacon fat.  It's good for keeping my kid's coats fluffy.

Anything can wind up in my breakfast burrito.  The dregs of any corn or potato chip bag gets mixed in my eggs to emulate migas.

I am trying  to fatten up Hüsky just a bit. Unlike a Labrador,  or most Dawgs, he does not usually eat until the Food Bowl is empty.

However, a taste of "people food" mixed with his stuff encourages H.I.M. to finish the bowl.

He is about 76 pounds now  (35 Kilos) but I'd like to see H.I.M. get up to 80 pounds, if his framework can allow that.

The Hound has a nice exercise regimen, and is always looking to run to Alaska or somewhere.

I'm curious how this turned out. It seems like you would need to heat them for quite a while for the middle to get warmed.

Pics!!!!

Big fan of the breakfast burrito.

Brown rice, scrambled eggs with scallions, refried beans. Bah...bam.

no need to mess with the coleman stove. just toss them in a dirty sleeping bag for 5-6 hours

Never beans in my breakfast burrito and always MASHED potatoes.<<<

A local place makes b.burritos with mashed sweet potatoes ... which are excellent if you get them within a couple hours after having they've pre-made them, but they get a little soggy the longer they sit.

Shredded hash browns > tots for a breakfast burrito (and I'm a fan of tots)

Will often get a breakfast burrito for lunch or dinner over "other meal" burrito types

I had half a burrito for breakfast. Diced ham, chopped up bacon, refried beans, rice and cheese

with chips, salsa and an Almanac Craft Pilsner.

Im having the other half for dinner. Paired with the same beer.

Great pictures and it looks like great fun for the kids, and if it's fun for the kids, it's fun for everyone!

killer photos, thanks for sharing. i need to get back to Yosemite soon

Cool. Thanks for sharing.

I am really flexible about what goes in the burrito, but it has to be smothered with green chili.

I ended up using Fresno chilis.  They're like a jalapeño but red, a little spicier, and more fruity.

Thank Tim for sharing. I LOVE Yosemite and it brings back memories. It is such a special place!!!

Someone sent me a pic of us in yosemite in 1976 recently...I was living my dream and did not even know it...

Many climbers almost live on eating burritos...we would fill the burritos with whatever we had at the time...

Wow, awesome pics Tim! Looks like a lot of fun.

Big fan of breakfast burritos myself. I like 'em w/ scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, cheddar cheese, diced potatoes, a little salsa & green chiles. Rice & beans is also a good change from the potatoes.

I rarely eat eggs anymore, they just dont agree with me, but my choice for BB is - scrambled egg cooked w/cheese, sausage/pepper/onion - sauteed together & some sort of hot sauce.

If it's viable Ill have home fries on the side, if not no potato needed.
