Disco Stu, once a year we flush our distribution system with straight up chlorine(chlorine burn/chlorine cleansing) since the brain eating amoeba connection has been made by an ingenious doctor a few years ago.The amoeba is more common than one would think in lakes and rivers around the country, mostly southern states.
We combine/bind together ammonia with the chlorine to form chloramines. It provides a longer disinfection residual throughout the distribution system lines. When we flush we take out the ammonia and run a higher dose of cl2 while flushing from the end of the system and the dead ends first then work the flushing back towards the source. I also make a habit to rise and lower the level of the water towers and the clearwell ten feet a day to circulate clean water daily in the rising summer tempatures. KEEP IT CLEAN and FRESH.
Almost zero issues and complaints from customers. These systems that the amoeba show up at sample sites are apparently not flushing and they have a lot of dead ends.
It is always recommended to use distilled water in a neti pot is used if someone is concerned of getting their brain eaten alive from a bacteria.
The bacteria enters the brain through the nostrils.
