Bobby's new wrinkle

Later this month Dead & Company will regroup for a month-long tour, the band’s third extensive outing since forming in 2015. Guitarist Bob Weir, who is joined in the group by Grateful Dead band mates Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart as well as guitarist John Mayer, bassist Oteil Burbridge and keyboardist Jeff Chimenti hinted at a “new wrinkle” for Dead & Company in a just-published interview with Rolling Stone.

"This new wrinkle, which I’m not at liberty to try to attempt to describe because I really won’t know what we’re looking at until a few days into it at least … that’s what’s got me going right now. The premise that we’re working with is that when most people go to a show, they’re not really watching what’s going on onstage. They may be watching what’s on the screen. But when the songs are playing in their mind’s eye, they’re actually watching a movie. They’re watching the movie the song the character in the song is delivering. They’re watching a movie on the big screen in their head. We’re going to try to play to that."

I'm thinking some kind of projected iTunes visualizer sort of deal that responds in real time to the music?

As long as it's not hologram Jerry

I hope it's barrels of kool aid.

I think Jerry hologram or GD concert videos.

The songs will tell stories on da screens...jack straw in 3'D

^that would be nice

Pantomime Horses!

Could be another ground breaker, like thick air

Yeah, was kind of thinking the same thing.  Check out Milk Drop for WinAmp, great visualization pluggin that also accept line-in ... so it's an easy cool effects for bands to setup if you have a projector.

For a long time now, I've been waiting until the 3-d hologram version of these visualization programs will be ubiquitous at concerts.  I can imagine giant fountains and tornados of color shooting & spinning through an arena in relation to the music.  Sky is the limit.

At the NYE Cheese shows (can't remember if it was this past one or one before?) they had 3-d type glasses which caused the images on the screen behind the band to be really tripped out ... in fact, it was too much for me after only a little bit and opted not to use the glasses.

A distraction from the tepid music.

I smell a duck

Supplication jam.....

Is he advertising creases as wrinkles now?

^ well played

More cowbell?

... although one of theses days, perhaps this photo might be perceived in a similar way as we do now of minstrel shows

More gimmicks to sell over priced tix for substandard product.

The long anticipated return of Bob Star.

With aforementioned Supplication Jam & Thick Air Jam.

Though barrels of kool aid sounds fun.

Was it ever officially revealed what said "wrinkle" actually was?

bobby's birks

I think it was Oteil singing.

Haha! There used to be zoner Bobby's birks.

Think it was a Zippy sock.

Visual distractions that will narrow the actual experience, defining what you are "supposed" to be seeing rather than the picture you create in your head.

By defining the thing that has been amorphous and different for every person, it greatly reduces the range of experiences one could take away from any given song.

Just give me music that demands my attention.

Maybe they will play behind the screen and project visuals  that will generate telekinesis.

phish.

dont throw away those eclipse glasses!

A video of Trey and Martha Stewart making donuts in Mayer's kitchen with fat Donna popping in at the end for the taste test?

could happen

ESP Experiment - comin' around in a circle.

hmmm,  i almost read this as meaning he does NOT want visual distraction. That he doesnt want people watching a screen and that he'd rather the audience make up a movie in their head to the music.
