The "angry political ranting"is precisely what has always turned me off about this song. Pretty much the last thing I ever wanted to hear at a Dead, or any other, show.
Does Bob include himself when he whines about "rich men in their summer homes", or is he talking about Bernie Sanders?
Cajones - not the politics, the band and Bobby, my first listen of this band, I want more, nothing earth shaking just new, fresh, and still evolving, get it Bobby!
thom, i might not agree with every sentiment in the song, but i think its pretty sad that you cant see past your partisan ideology long enough to appreciate a passionate piece of art that speaks to issues humans have been dealing with for millenia and how they fit into our modern culture in relatively apolitical, vague terms.
^ Agreed. You'd think it's the common denominator we all share and can all get behind, regardless of what side of the aisle one may stand ideologically:
"You can buy .... the whole god damn government today!"
Just listened to it again and another thought struck me: while he's certainly notorious for botching lyrics, when he's "on" he's very fluent and even forceful at times in his delivery; however, if you listen to him telling a story off stage, it's often very subdued and follows a quirky (in a good way) disjointed manner of speaking. I find it interesting how there's a distinct dichotomy in his delivery.
