Bobby and Phil Tour

Bobby reportedly said this on the radio show today:

Bobby and Phil throwing together a mini duo tour

March 2nd & 3rd Radio City

March 7 & 8th Wang Center Boston

March 10 11th Chicago Theater

March 10th is a Bday shoe for me, and I love the Chicago Theater.

Hmmmmm.

Can't wait to see ticket prices.

The ticket prices will be predictably high, but what's the "duo" bit going to be? Just the two of them, or a Weir band/Family Band co-headliner?

Probably the latter.

special guests to be added

I seem to remember Phil and Bob along with Jay Lane before New Year's show at SF Civic. Easy to Slip, Dark Star. Wasn't bad for 20 minutes.

add molo kimock and chimenti, then we are talking.

^^^ That would be a lot of fun

I am extremely there

Would be amazing if this was a Phil Kimock reunion. Would love to see those guys make up while there's still time

Also this doesn't necessarily preempt Phil Cap Bday shows, I would hope not at least

Play on!

 >>>this doesn't necessarily preempt Phil Cap Bday shows<<<

Keep you eyes open for March Phil Cap shows.

(NOTE: The www.bobbyandphil.com link will go live TOMORROW, 12/11)

i wonder when we will see a phil and billy k duo tour

when pigs fly.

Russo & Chimenti may be there with them.

I might be able to do Chicago, cookies!

IMG_3789_0.JPG...

Hearing Crosby and Hart, id look for more dates, people dont make websites for 6 off the cuff shows

Molo, Chimenti and Jimmy Herring.

^ I'd would quit work

Hart? Like Mickey Hart? That might actually make me not go.

For Molo and Herring I would definitely take some days off.

Is this the end of Dead & Co.?

^There are already auctioned tickets on resell sites for a NYC show in summer 2018 for D and C. They are such a money maker i dont see them calling it quits, the cash is unreal.

 >>>>Is this the end of Dead & Co.?

Without a doubt.

You guys didn't believe that appendectomy bullshit with Mayer, did you?

With Mickey and Kimock? When pigs fly is the right summary.

Best lineup Phil’s put together for a while.

Bob with the Terrapin Family band?

>>>>add molo kimock and chimenti, then we are talking.<<<<

That would be great.

I hope a person can manage to afford tix for a tour like this.

I don't remember having trouble getting tix for Furthur, but I think Furthur was before FTW, if I remember correctly.

Radio City....

Rockin Good News!!!

Radio City sounds like a perfect place to hear some truly boring music.

So Ticketmaster is the only outlet for this tour?

Who's in the band?

So CID is selling "ENHANCED" experience tickets. I wonder what is in the gift bag?

^just some bs.

Its a Peter Shapiro production as well, so the experiences are travel and the enhanced is sorta silly. Drinks, Laminate, food, second row seat etc.. the usual. After being locked up during FTW im pumped this is happening since ive walked out of 4  Dead and Co shows I was afraid the only way to see Bobby is to go and walk out again.

>> im pumped this is happening since ive walked out of 4 Dead and Co shows <<

PT Barnum was right.

looks like tickets are about 67$-180$, Ive never been picked for the Verified Fan Pre-Sale for any concert. I dont even get how that stops bots or scalping.

$70 -> $160 tixx for RCMH,  similar range for other venues (PLUS FEES).  Presale 12/14,  on-sale 12/15.

It would be awesome if they have Merle on that huge Radio City pipe organ,  and the Rockettes laugh

>>>>>>It would be awesome if they have Merle on that huge Radio City pipe organ

He hasn’t really been able to play well anymore since his death.

No word on who else is in the band?!?! If it’s the family band, I’ll take a big pass.

>>>looks like tickets are about 67$-180$, Ive never been picked for the Verified Fan Pre-Sale for any concert. I dont even get how that stops bots or scalping.

I just got the Ticket Master-Verified Fan Pre-Sale email and registered for the Radio City 3/3/18 show for kicks & giggles.

For sure I love these guys, their skills, talents, legacy, history, the amount of fun I've had watching them do what they do is unparalleled in my life - but the couple of times I've seen them play as a duo have been vastly over-rated and not particularly memorable, or special experiences.   If anything, they just left me craving to hear Jerry in the mix more then ever.

I suppose the tour will offer some fun - but being an SF'er I'll just have to catch what I can at TXR or Sweetwater (presuming I can).
But still - there seemed to be no there there......

Used to go to the RCMH matinee shows w/ Grandma as a little kid,  above article has some good history.  You'd get the Giant-screen movie and the choreographed stage show w/ Rockettes,  Xmas and Easter Theme were popular.  They were elaborate productions.

That was before it (almost) got shut down,  but fortunately the Grateful Dead played an epic run of shows there in 1980,  earning enough to keep the doors open.

two sets?

one acoustic...one w these "possible guests" ???

hmmmm....anything possible...but, THAT,  in itself,  may be the problem...

Lol Timmy Hoover

"If anything, they just left me craving to hear Jerry in the mix more then ever."

Makes me remember the times that Jerry would have technical issues and the bottom would fall out of the music.

This will be an easy pass for me. No where close to home and I'm certainly not traveling for this.

I'm so sick  of pre-registration, pre-sale, VIP tix, etc., etc., ......just put the fuckers on sale and sell them until they are gone.  And this pre-registration bs DOES NOT cut down on scalping.  Hell, Ticketbastard and the venues scalp their own tix.,

Might go check out RCMH after they eventually announce the cast of characters.

There's always StubHub & CashorTrade.

I'm hearing two sets with David Gans providing backing vocals & accompaniment. Should be great!

^^^^^^^^

man i hope not

tickets will go on sale with no mention of who will be in the band with them, if anyone, until they are long sold out. seems clearly to be a shappy move. really kinda disrespectful to paying fans, just saying;

"we know you will buy the tickets just cause its bob and phil, why should we go above and beyond the absolute bear minimum needed to sell out. lets just charge 2x as much as furthur used to charge in the same venues, and not go to the trouble of putting up any kind of useable info except where to go to give us their money. we dont even have to have a solidified lineup until a week or two before showtime, if worse comes to worse Phil will just bring Crosby, James and Koford and we can pay them in hetti veg wraps."

hope im wrong and they announce it in the next few days, but if i remember correctly lots of PLF cap runs sold out before the band was solidified.

What is Phil Lesh planning for his surprise duo tour with Grateful Dead co-founder Bob Weir?

"We're going to play everything we can think of,” Lesh tells Billboard. “We’’re going to do his stuff, we’re going to do my stuff, we’re going to play Jerry’s stuff, we’ll do Grateful Dead stuff and we’ll do covers. We're going to try and play everything we've ever played together and maybe some new stuff too."

After a successful headlining set at Peter Shapiro's Lockn’ Festival in Arrington, Virginia, Weir and Lesh are embarking on a three-city, six show tour produced by Shapiro, the Brooklyn Bowl founder and Relix Magazine publisher who promoted the 2015 Fare Thee Well shows for Lesh, Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, joined by Trey Anastasio, Bruce Hornsby and Jeff Chimenti, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead.

“During these turbulent times it’s reassuring to have the music of the Grateful Dead, which has been part of the foundation of American music over the past half-century,” Shapiro tells Billboard. "The Dead’s music and the improvisation they inspire are timeless, but one of the reasons for that is people keep reinventing the songs. To have the guys that originally created the music keep reinventing it themselves uplifts people. I think Bobby and Phil performing together for the first time as a duo will elevate people's spirits. And we can probably use some of that right now.”

Lesh says performing as a duo and ditching the backing band leaves him and Weir exposed, but says the upside is a singular focus on musically weaving around and through Weir’s improvisational style.

“I can hear him so clearly and is so easy to respond and work through him, it’s really delightful,” Lesh tells Billboard. “When it's just the two of us, it takes us to a different level because there's nobody else that we have to have to compensate for or work with."

The Bobby and Phil duo tour kicks off March 2 and 3 at Radio City Music Hall in New York, then heads to Boston’s Wang Theater (March 7-8) and then Chicago Theatre (March 10-11). To buy tickets, fans can sign up for the Ticketmaster Verified Fan Presale starting today at 7 a.m. ET at bobbyandphilduotour.tmverifiedfan.com. Tickets will be available to the public on Dec. 15 at 10 a.m. local time at Ticketmaster.

This new project came about as Weir and Lesh celebrated the 40-year anniversary of the Grateful Dead’s 1977 studio album Terrapin Station. Earlier this year, the two performed at Lesh’s own Terrapin Crossroads music venue and restaurant in San Rafael, California, as well as Lockn’ Festival and Sound Summit on Mount Tamalpais, each time with a backing band filling in the set.

“I think it will be more stimulating than the recent performances we’ve done together.” Lesh says. "It's just easier to hear and easier to respond to Bob when it's just us two. It heightens the focus on the totality of the music. It becomes an unconscious mental state — just Bobby and I up there reacting to each other and exploring our musical boundaries.".

Lol what a slick fuckin' shyster this guy is

so is it seriously just the two of them with no band???

weir mentioned sp guests but from the article posted looks like a duo.time will tell

I already told you guys. David Gans. Jason Crosby will be providing some violin parts for renditions of "Terrapin Station," as well.

Positives: Phil Lesh, Radio City

Negatives: Bob Weir, high probability of sitting next to a balding dude who tries to sing along with every song

Hmmmm. On the fence here.

lol Agree 100% on your positives and your negatives, Tatters.

Just  for 'Kicks'  I checked the Rockettes X-Mas Spectacular ticket prices.  On this Thursday,  they have three shows;  2 PM,  5 PM,  8 PM.

Tickets range from $60 to $150.  Of course there are VIP packages where you can meet the Rockettes (more $$).  So Bob & Phil are not that out of range,  price-wise.  However,  are they bringing four dozen Rockettes ??

I think not,  but rumours of 'Special Guests'.

Who wouldn't look forward to an instrumental I Don't Need Love??

>>>However,  are they bringing four dozen Rockettes ??

probably not since the early 80's, zing

Ha.

Bobby/Phil duos should probably be limited to backstage jam videos, or festival 'tweeners.

Two hours of them singing Garcia tunes?  Oh boy.

RCMH is f'n awesome, tho'.

I'm steering clear of it until after the end of the year.  A December tradition! Total clusterfuck, all day, everyday.

It is certainly not “Bobby and Phil performing together for the first time as a duo” as Shapiro claims.

Phil and Bob as a duo opened the show at Sound Summit in September -- https://archive.org/details/phil2017-09-09/philbob2017-09-09.vwmule.t01....

Also the first Furthur show 9-18-09 -- https://archive.org/details/furthur2009-09-18.dsbd.ekoostikal.fix-101687...

I also remember a radio interview at some point, maybe promoting Furthur or FTW, where they both talked a bit and then played a Cassidy, but I can't find it

I love the idea, I love that photo of the gents, I love the quote from Phil that Scott posted, I love the venue and I wil be there.

whats the least we can do, for the most profit?

^haha, yup.

Cheaper than playing with a full band

>>> Cheaper than playing with a full band

True, unlike Furthur no cat food per diems

Further had one of the most cost efficient line ups in history. Brilliant. Seriously where the fuck did they find those back up singers? What’d they get like 100$/ show?

"“We’’re going to do his stuff, we’re going to do my stuff, we’re going to play Jerry’s stuff, we’ll do Grateful Dead stuff and we’ll do covers"

So they're going to do what they've been doing for for 52 years?

Yes, Thom. Same as it ever was.

No respect from sumyas, i tells ya. I love the guys. I feel like we shared more than a monetary exchange every time Ive seen them. If you want to make it about money, at least allow for inflation, nostalgia and a little love. I'l  still have enough loot to go to other great, less expensive, shoes.

another way to look at it: If Jerry was still alive would you go see him acoustic knowing full well time impacts everyone, including voice and finger control, and he would probably forget half the words? He too would be in his 70's.  Would you go?

well i saw mclaughlin @75 buddy guy @ 81 and on and on

so yea

"If Jerry was still alive would you go see him acoustic.."

No.

I only saw Garcia acoustic with Kahn once and was underwhelmed. As far as I was concerned it was an easy way for him to make drug money.  Play the same halls for the same ticket price, get paid the same and only have to pay John.

"I love the guys."

So do I. But I'm not paying big bucks to see them play some duo versions of the catalog.  Like I said, it reminds me of when Jerry would drop out of the mix.  Not a lot happening.

Baloney Thom. And as usual you missed the point. There are many reasons to go to a show! Do you know what to expect? I bet you do. Spill man. I didn't take you for the kind to care about ticket prices or spending a little money. Aren't money grabs the American way?  If Jerry was playing anywhere you would be bragging about your front row balcony or loge seats. You can't remove drugs from jerry's legacy so that statement is a load too. You just used the junkie tag to state a falsehood and put down Jerry! I get the bobby bashing, now Jerry. Sheesh.  You realize Phil has lost a few steps right?

are you seriously trying to say that the opportunity to see jerry solo acoustic is even remotely in the same universe as this bob/phil absurdity?

>>>There are many reasons to go to a show!

IMO there is only one reason to go to a show, because the music will be good.

Things like my friends going, or a fun situation, or nostalgia might get me to go to a show i had been on the fence about, but if the music is bad, theres nothing thats gonna get me in the door.

and i really cant think of a worse lineup for live dead in 2017 than this. i would take the family band over this any day, no question. after a night of bob/phil acoustic duo i would imagine id be begging for some family band.

There's no way to know what Jerry acoustic in 2017 would be like. It could be the most pathetic thing ever, or it could still be Jerry noodling around on an acoustic, where you walk out saying, "That Birdsong alone was worth the price of admission."

I don't think there's anything absurd or terrible about these little Bob/Phil one-offs. I wouldn't likely be interested in seeing it myself, but one thing that is pretty certain is that you will be able to hear Phil really clearly, and from that hear just how good he still is. He's not the bombastic psychedelic stormtrooper he used to be, but he's still a brilliant listener & responder and it's my bet he'll sound real good in this setting. Plus, Bob is in good voice these days, so if you're a fan, in the area and have some disposable income, what the hell? GTTS.

Mainly, whatever I may think of the individual show, I think it's cool that this is yet another example that a few (or one) independent promoters still exist and look to create individual shows.

The fact that many people won't be interested isn't the point, or even if the shows end up being no good. To me the point is that Shappy comes up with these ideas, goes to the artists and says, "What do you think? I'll do all the work, you guys just show up and play a few shows in some great venues. It'll be a blast and we'll all make a few bucks too."

I feel the same way about that kid in Denver putting on that hip-hop show at Red Rocks on NYE. I wouldn't go to that show if you paid me $5,000, but I think it's cool he's giving it a try.

In this day & age of every tour and every show just part of corporate sponsored, cookie-cutter mega-tours, I find it cool that someone is still out there creating individual shows.

Now that David Byrne is playing closer for my bday; Im considering skipping Phil

Signed up for the presale and would like to hit at least one.  Have to pick up mom at the airport Thurs. morning so if it works out it works out.  If not, we'll see.  For some reason, I think it might be okay, would obviously like to know who else will be there and the ticket price.  Found this on the Chicago Theatre website, if that's the case, no way I'm paying $194!

BOB WEIR AND PHIL LESH

Chicago Theatre MAR 11TH, 2018

Prices from: $194

https://www.chicago-theater.com/category_dates.php?category=top%20show&y...

Ouch !!

If that's the actual pricing...

I'm out as well.

They're playing highlights from Hamilton?

>>They're playing highlights from Hamilton?

saw that and it's confusing, scroll down to the bottom of the page.

lol @ $200 for bob weir and phil lesh. those guys have no shame.

Who would pay $1638 to see Bob and Phil?

Boggles the mind.

I'd pay $50 to see 'em if they were near by.

Tickets for John Prine this April at Radio City are $77-$97 & you get a free copy of his new CD.

I did the presale for 3/3 Radio City & expect the seats to be the same cost as the John Prine, without a free CD and some type additional penalty charge for being a Dead Head for ruining the theater back in 1980...

Thank you for the correction, Scott.  Weird the site I linked says "The Chicago Theatre | Official Site - Madison Square Garden"

so, ticket prices are:

Price Range

$79.50 - $159.50

Radio City sez $69 - $159 yes

Lol, I worked at a theatre too for, oh, eight years.  Still a n00b.

Just got notified I'm on the wait list for 'Verified Fan' for RCMH.

Me too. This is not a code. This a virtual line.

Not for me, have fun kids  !

I'd rather go see David Cassidy  :)~

Got a code for Friday, nothing for Saturday yet.

"Baloney Thom. And as usual you missed the point."

No Fly, I reject (not missed) YOUR point.  Anyone knows that people go to shows for a wide variety of reasons.  And if you want top spend over $100 to hang with the crowd in the upper balcony go right ahead.  I'm not going to pay the prices their asking to see two of my favorite and influential musicians play luke warm versions of songs I've seen play them transcendental versions of countless times.  For me, shows are always about the music, first and foremost.  The crowd was never of much interest to me and was always a by product of the music anyway. If possible I got to a show as late as possible and left as soon as the encore ended.  And if IMO the music wasn't up to par I'd be the first person to say so.  After almost 50 years of going to shows I'm a bit more discerning about how I spend my time and money when I choose to go to one, which is why when I do take the occasional trip up to the Capital I get a loge seat.  At my age I want to be comfortable with a good view  and good sound and I'm willing to pay a few extra bucks for it if I think the music will deliver.  Your comments about "the American way" are simply childish and if you want to glorify Jerry Garcia, who was a human being with the same weaknesses that we all share, you're just being naïve.  My opinion about those acoustic tours hasn't changed since they happened and whether I'm right or wrong is something neither of us will ever know.  But I'm not going to sugarcoat reality.

got a saturday code thats it from all 6

I hope John Kadlecik plays with them again. ..Im hoping this mini tour brings back Furthur for some reunion shows.

Whew! That was strong stuff Thom.

That being said, I hope Phil has a lineup that gets you up off your pulpit so you can grace us with your presence.

It's always great to meet (cuz, we know where you sit) a proper DEADHEAD such as yourself.

You embody the Spirit and Passion that makes it that more special.

So please post when the lineup you like is up to snuff and I will make sure I'll make it.

"Because it's always good to meet a real DEADHEAD."

- The Grateful Dead Movie

image_15.png

RCMH Saturday code worked for Friday too, but seemed like everything was gone immediately, just nothing available except some scattered single seats

Got a code for the 3/2 pre-sale and pulled a bunch of seats that weren't great, at least not at the lower price level. Threw them all back. Pass.

That sucked. The seats they gave me were so shittty I dumped them. I ain't sitting in a back row mezz corner for that money

got a single 8th row dead center

aisle seat too

3.2 radio city

Not gonna stand on any pulpit. I simply wouldn't spend any money to see this Bobby & Phil acoustic duo thing. Good for them if they can sell tix.

I pulled far right seats in row S for $100 apiece and threw them back. If they had been something close to center for that $$$ I would have thought more about it, but that was a no brainer. I think I am gonna go see David Byrne

That was frustrating. I have come across a maddening Ticketmaster thing on occasion and one of them was today. I get right in and go to purchase the seats I have picked, only to be told another fan beat me to them. This happened today for every pair of seats I pulled until there were no more I would consider even buying. WTF. Fuck you TM.

Grabbed very nice seats for both RCMH shows. Pretty pumped for these, going in with no real expectations, other than sharing a couple intimate evenings with my two of my absolute favorite musicians. Hope everybody has a great day!

Code worked for both nights smileyyes  Got 2nd mezz row f friday and row g saturday.....aisle both nights.  Fee of $20.50 on $79.50 wasn't too bad by ticketbastard standards and I used 4 of my ticketbastard settlement vouchers as well......bonus!  LOL......

I got tickets for 3/3 smiley  but not for 3/2.

I wonder if there wil B any tickets available tomorrow.

I am getting a ticket to one to of the Radio City shows, in I guess what would be called a miracle ticket sale. We'll see...

Got Mezz Booth seats for Chicago- my favorite spot in there. Very psyched to see this.

Everyone knows the verified fan pre sale code is just more BS from TM. Just a joke and waste of my time. I don’t even bother. Too old for these stupid games. They say jump. You say how high? I’ll get my ticket(s) the usual way, without all the stress and aggravation,(it pays to be connected somehow) or not go at all. “I’ve been all around this world.”

I guess it would B nice 2 B connected.

I'm happy 2 C shoes.

smiley

Thom, just wondering.

You only mention Garcia's acoustic work with Kahn.

Did you never see a GD acoustic show? The Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band? Garcia and Grisman?

Curious because you seem to be selling his acoustic work a bit short.

Or are you only talking about him in a "duo" acoustic setting. Seems like perhaps your opinion may have been skewed by the

your thinking that he was doing it Only for drug money.

this could be part of the puzzle

Guitarist John Kadlecik brought his band to the Grate Room at Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, CA, last night, and the group welcomed Bob Weir for several songs on the evening.

As JamBase reports, Kadlecik’s band, which featured keyboardist Todd Stoops and a rhythm section of drummer Jay Lane and bassist Robin Sylvester, brought Weir on stage for “Walking Blues” along with a number of tunes from the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia rotations including “Bertha,” “West L.A. Fadeaway,” “Throwing Stones,” “Touch of Grey” and Daniel Lanois’ “The Maker.”

http://www.jambands.com/news/2017/12/14/bob-weir-collaborates-with-john-...

Everyone knows the verified fan pre sale code is just more BS from TM.

I haven't been paying close attention to this particular show but usually if they institute verified fan tickets, it is for all tickets, pre-sale and regular sale. The pre-sale is only a tease.

Congrats to Mr Ateix - You sure are good @ Punking Goober old Deadheads - I've now just heard from 2 different old timers "David Gans is gonna be in the band - it's on the Philzone" - so I scrolled thru this thread & see that You started that Rumor.  Good work!!!!!!

Bob, keep checking the Zonies thread.  I’ve got a feeling this is your year.

Total bust at 10am for Radio City either night

my god people, get a hold of yourselves.

lol.

I just got a ticket to the Radio City 3/3 concert just now.  Orchestra section 6, Row YY.

My understanding is that the band has been rehearsing such classics as the ballad "Who Killed Uncle John?" for this tour.

David Gans will also be doing book signings after each show.

you should call in on the golden road ateix.

Mr Gans screens my calls. I think he's intimidated by my radio voice...

Im glad some of got your tix!  Have fun.

I know this is no longer a site dedicated to Mr. Phil but jeez, some of "you people" sure don't seem to like the guy. This run seems like a great opportunity to see something different and phun.

Those that are going to RCMH- see you there and keeeeep smiling...

pullin a tix 4 or 5 hrs after "soldout" one in a million bluelight!

I will feel fine watching it on Nugs for $25.

>>pullin a tix 4 or 5 hrs after "soldout" one in a million bluelight!

It's a one ticket sale courtesy a friend I made in upper mangment at Live Nation & Peter the producer of the event.

It's a miracle I am getting to see either of these guys again as they don't seem to like Long Island and we're all getting older.

Grateful Dead 10/29/80 was the last time I saw these 2 there.

Peeps on the interwebs r very upset bout the ticket process...

of course they're upset. wait till they find out there's no free sour dough bread included!

Wang Dang Duo

same shit different show , i thought the presale went pretty smooth yesterday. good tickets available throughout the venue. but today was a shitshow. i think presale sold alot of tix yesterday and what was left today went from TM to the secondary mkt and the insiders.today was soldout before onsale time.i dont know anyone who got a tix today except bluelight and that wasnt on TM so to speak. the beat goes on....

I’m surprised that tickets went so fast.

Guess I got lucky. Pulled 4 $100 orchestra seats for Saturday RCMH about 10 minutes after they went on sale.

in the presale or today?

I'm happy they are playing.

Today Scott

sweet.... u hit a homerun

hi folks

i think this should be fun

i just assume that there will be guests or a backing band - this is two members of the gd in nyc -

i signed up for the presale - system parceled out a couple of tickets that i did not like and did not really  like the idea of spending over $300 for two tickets

went back in and no tickets were left

went back in this morning for the regular sale on a break between dealing with my clients and found 1 ticket in ORCH 1 for $122 bucks

so now i will be going - help out at wharfrat table - and have a good time

radio city - bob and phil - gd music - good friends will all conspire to create a good time

tom

Leave it to Hall.

Shappy is going to use that if he see it/hears it, and will be pissed that he didn't think of it first (or he'll take credit for it).

As all good promoters do.

A Saturday night in NYC with Phil & Bob,

not to shabby,

looking forward to what the day may bring

and what through the night may fall

Bob will dig deep for these shows

like a South American miner

rcmh_0.jpg

I Love this Place. Very Excited!

Me too.  2 feet of snow their today. But really looking forward to this show!

Let's grab some warm pretzels.
