Bob Weir benefit gala

The Sweetwater closed in 2007.

Bobby's nouveau club is OK but labeling as a 50th year anniversary is a wee bit silly,

Sounds so Tuxedoish,.

Samson Grisman a bass player = David the Dawg's son perhaps..

One of Special Guests = David Nelson perhaps..

That is it from here ya'all be well

did they ever find the mandala? that thing was trippy

be cool if it ended up on antiques roadshow or pawn stars

>>>The Sweetwater closed in 2007<<<

The original Sweetwater was a cramped, divey little bar. The new one, just a block from the original, located in a building FAR older & more storied than the original building, is a way better venue and was born directly from the spirit of the original.

Keeping history, memories & traditions alive is a good thing. That the place now called The Sweetwater isn't the exact same place is accurate, but overall is a small issue, a detail.

Just like or more than the original room, a lot of cool things happened in that musty old building before the new group took it over, cleaned it up and called it The Sweetwater. The "new" place is ten years old now and is a fine little venue, run by fine people for the right reasons, carrying on a tradition. Good for them.

(TxR was cooler, but you go with what you got)

Carry on Sweetwater.

The current location most previously was ??

The old Sweetwater was a Sardine Can..Saw music there a few times Jemima Puddleduck during a Phil run the last time.

Sweetwater the bar had the vibe of a classic California dive bar serve adult beverages 6am-2am..The music was secondary to fhe Alcohol..LOL..

The new one is open for business when there is no live music..??.

The bar is open 7 days a week.

If you want a dive bar, you need to walk over to the Deuce.

the mill valley masons lodge

this is really a ten year anniversary no matter your math

the real sweetwater was straight up homeless and out of business

The song ended -- right in the middle, in fact. Bob Weir, the legendary Grateful Dead guitarist and solo star in his own right, stormed off stage in the middle of a tune Monday in Mill Valley, according to reports.

Weir was playing a Bob Dylan song during a solo acoustic set at Sweetwater Music Hall, a small venue of which he is part owner. But audience members at the venue's back bar were apparently talking too loud for his liking during the set. "He got so mad that he asked, 'Am I interrupting you? Am I bothering you?'" When audience members kept jabbering, Weir declared he'd had enough. "That's it, I give up," he said, before storming off stage.

He returned with the Ratdog Quartet, which put on an electric set, but at one time had to tell the audience to shut up again.   Bob's PSA about talkers..  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76jUpy5LvBE

Hahaha Krab I happened to be there that night...too much.

Here are some tickets from the original Sweetwater. It was fun place to see shows, I think the "official" capacity was 90.

Seeing Electric Hot Tuna blasting in that place was mind-bending, too much fun. The bottom-right ticket was Ratdog.

I was told that before it was the Sweetwater, it was a bar called The Office, as in "Yes honey, I just got home from the office...."

The new one is nice too.

Wolf Bros very limited sample size this Dark Hallow from New Haven is my fav..each player takes a segment Barry yes.

^ Pete's first Hot Tuna shows. Per Pete's website:

"This was the first of a series of CD’s and videos released from a three night run at the legendary “Sweetwater” club in Mill Valley, California. The club was run by the wonderful Jeannie Pattison.
The night before Hot Tuna began recording the first show I happened to be playing blues piano as a volunteer at a SEVA benefit for Wavy Gravy at the Civic Auditorium in Berkeley, California.
Dr John and Hot Tuna were on the bill that night, and I was playing piano in the cafeteria with my head down when I got a tap on the shoulder…Jorma and Jack were standing there. I hadn’t seen either of them for years and Jorma invited me down to sit in on a song or two at the Sweetwater recording the following day.

I went down to sit in on one or two songs and ended up playing piano all three nights. I wasn’t that familiar with the material and the only space for the piano was back where the drums would usually be…it was an acoustic electric show. I did some fast scrambling and learning chord sequences during the first half of songs, knowing full well Jorma would be giving me a solo about halfway through.

It all turned out to be tremendous fun, and we all got along so well I stayed with Hot Tuna, and sometimes the Jorma Kaukonen Trio with just Jorma, Michael Falzarano and me, for the next ten years."

I went to most of the Tuna at the old Sweetwater. Those were special times.....waiting in line to get your home made construction paper tickets from Jeanie....eating takeout Chinese from the place next door. Bobby was often in attendance. A good time was always had by all!

Best place to see - sometimes you could squeeze in the video "booth" / ledge if they weren't using it

Best place to pee - grove of Redwood trees next door

> The original Sweetwater was a cramped, divey little bar.

I wasn't at the Crusader Rabbit show, but if I remember correctly, Phil shouted out something like "I love these little fucking sweatboxes" at one point.

My one time at the Sweetwater was for a Zero show during the summer of 1986. I was right up against the stage and completely blown away by this new guy, Steve Kimock.

the old sweetwater dive, kind one at that happy hours blended into shows a few times, my most memorial shoes were

John Lee Hooker and the coast to coast blues band: a bunch of times ,once with Carlos showing up

Hot Tuna: another bunch of times

John Hartford : life changing wife meeting magical shoe, after a magical Tam ridge sunset,22 minuit  don't let go on the radio all the way down the mountain, parking place right in front of the "Bluegrass tonight 6 $" sign

oh... And Jerry Garcia and David Grisman... er um I think the sign on the wall said capacity 98, plus Jeanie and the Bartendress.

oops almost left out The Santana Band... now that was a tight squeeze.

I Cherish  my memories oh and Zero quite often as well as Nick at night ! Gravanites that is... my kind of dive fer sur.

Bobby and Lukas last night at Sweetwater

^^^See your name/photo in the Jambase review?^^^

Last night, Grateful Dead/Dead & Company guitarist Bob Weir was once again the surprise guest at Music Heals International’s annual benefit concert. Held at Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, California, the show featured performances from the MHI All-Stars featuring Lebo (Dan Lebowitz) & Friends as well as Lukas Nelson and Tato Melgar and more. Proceeds from Tuesday’s 8th annual Music Heals International concert went towards the Rob Wasserman Memorial Fund, a fund established in honor of the late bassist. Rob Wasserman was a longtime Bob Weir collaborator including time in RatDog, a group also represented last night by saxophonist Dave Ellis.

The MHI All-Stars/Lebo & Friends opened the evening with a performance that included Dan’s ALO bandmates drummer Ezra Lipp and bassist Steve Adams along with Mookie Siegel, Elliott Peck, Paul Beaubrun, Jamie Clark and Grant Harrington. Attendee Paul Wozniak reported the power went out at the end of the ensemble’s set. The emergency lights came on, a brief auction was held and unplugged performances came from Lebo and Peck as well as Lukas Nelson and Promise Of The Real percussionist Tato Melgar.

Weir emerged and the power went back on as the guitarist joined Lukas Nelson and Tato Melgar for songs including Willie Nelson’s “Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain,” Bo Diddley’s “Before You Accuse Me” and the Grateful Dead classic “Loose Lucy.” Finally, musicians from the lineup, including Ellis and DJ Logic played in various formations for the last set of the evening. Bob Weir was on hand for covers of The Temptations’ “Standing On Shaky Ground,” The Band’s “The Weight” and Bob Dylan’s “I Shall Be Released” to end the night

glad to hear that Nelson held his own

and thanks to Woz for posting the pics... I especially liked the one of Barry Sless and Sam Grisman, with the stealth DNB "thunderbird" sticker on the equipment case that Barry's sitting on

I followed up with a little search for info on Samson "Sam" Grisman, and discovered that he has a new band called the Sam Grisman Project that has a January 2023 tour planned in CA, OR and WA... I'll be catching them when they pass through NorCal (Humboldt) on January 14th! Check it out! https://www.gratefulweb.com/articles/sam-grisman-project-announces-west-...
