Blizzard Watch Update & Vibes 4 Phil Birthday Run

Forums:

Oh crap! Could make travel a nightmare?

Blizzard watch from Jersey to New York to New England.

With the potential for a crippling snowstorm in the nation's biggest cities, the National Weather Service is not taking any chances. Winter storm watches have been issued for Monday night through Tuesday night from New Jersey north into New England, and a blizzard watch is in effect for New York City, Long Island, coastal Connecticut and coastal Massachusetts all the way into the city of Boston. However, snowfall may continue into Wednesday in many areas.

Stella...;)

I too am watching closely, thinking I may come up on monday and ride the storm out there, if i wait to travel on wed I will be screwed as I am traveling basically from exit 2 on NJ Turnpike to North. I did call the Cap and they are discussing if they will cancel or not if State of Emergency is declared, she said pretty much as long as public transportation is running they will not cx,  my dilemma is to come up to early and then it be cx'd :( .  They said they are beginning to get phone calls already, they are SO nice there....always !

Ohhh, well....will have to wait and see for now, going to The Philadelphia Flower Show tomorrow to pretend it is Spring ((( Holland/Tulips))).

Hoping Stella doesn't bring us the Blues , and the storm they are predicting ...;)

We are leaving tomorrow to get to the Philton Monday.

We were going to arrive in Port Chester Tuesday. Obviously, that is no longer an option.

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these Phreaks from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.

Negman ain't gonna like this.

Planning to catch a red eye from SF Tuesday night. Not any other option so hoping it turns left to Boston.  Otherwise, couch tour

Port Chester New York 5 Day Weather Forecast    https://weather.com/en-PH/weather/5day/l/10573:4:US

LOL, Surfdead! I was just talking about that this evening.

We're flying in on Tuesday, hoping it won't be a travel nightmare.

If the weather people were tuned in, they would have the Port  Chester forecast as Cold Rain/Snow

Buckle up kids.

It's great to see the effort of fans in 2017 to get to these type of shows.

You're carrying the flame, and whether it's the greatest music anyone's ever seen or not, it's going to be good music, a real good time, and a continuation of something we've all been a part of for a real long time.

Carry on you crazy easties.

You're the bomb.

LONG LIVE PHIL LESH!!!!!

LONG LIVE THE GRATEFUL DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!

LONG LIVE US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Winter's Last Licks are upon us.

Lets just rock this shit out!

Be safe everyone.

For those that make it to the show on Tuesday you will be treated to a great evening of music.

With a storm name of Stella there is no way it will be cancelled.

Never miss a snow show.

Remember that many free parking spaces will have snow removal restrictions attached to them. Pay attention to the signs. A $200 parking ticket will harsh anybody's mellow.

Hang in there westies, just give yourself extra time and dress for the weather.

( Stella )  unbelievable, or is it believable, hahaha

>>Never miss a snow show.

I'll be driving in fom NH, they're saying a total of a foot here

Nice graphic w/ forecasted coverage in inches for the area (if link works).

Stu, you prefer the Kuchera ratio vs the traditional 10:1?

Whichever iteration one prefers, it's a colorful graphic rendering with visual appeal and reminds me to locate the Snow shovels.

Personally, I believe that the timing of the Blizzard is Mother Nature's retribution for Shapiro waiting until the last minute to announce the Lineup.

Of course, most tickets are sold, so it only hurts the Fans in their travel efforts.

Still Shappy's fault devil

$40 for your extra

I need one ticket for Friday!

Remember the Beacon show with the snowstorm? Trains were only running diesel locomotives that day.

Safe travels everyone!

Aaaaaand our Tuesday am flight was just canceled. We'll see how this plays out.

Sorry, Froggy sad

Any chance you could leave tonight?

I feel like I should start driving now

Price drops to $30 on Tuesday......

Looks like we're flying out Monday afternoon. Adventure!

Never a dull moment, eh

Seeriousely

I pulled the plug and am heading up tomorrow :) I travel by myself and will not take any chances of getting stuck here in South Jersey, there are some other factors being considered and sadly they have won out. I need a break actually and if using an impending snowstorm to  get away earlier does it...then so be it. I have the neighbor all lined up to take care of mom, and I will be fine with not having anything to do except relax...I will be all rested up for Phil and NOT  sick !!

Safe travels to everyone, see ya's there !!

Good news.....5 day forecast is lowering the chance for Snow on Wednesday in the Port Chester area to only 20%.  That is in Port Chester.  Have not checked the neighboring towns and cities in the Tri state area.

Vibes people.  We need more vibes.

Will be celebrating our wedding anniversary...we got married on Phil's bday!

Hudson Valley is now forecast for 18-24 inches on Tuesday, with blizzard conditions, 2-4 inches per hour. This from the NWS.

Ok! Leaving at the crack of dawn on Wednesday. Third time's the charm, hopefully.

"I fly in to JFK Tuesday night landing at 10:30. PM."

Not to be the bearer of bad news, but I wouldn't count on this happening.

Although they haven't done it yet, CT, NJ and NY have an emergency travel ban ready to drop. Expect all non-emergency vehicle travel to be banned from approximately noon Tues until noon Wed.

I'm visualizing zoners using their snowshoes and X-C skis to get to the CAP. Well, that's what I would do!

Snow ball fights and igloo building at the Philton!

Good luck to all of you braving the elements at The Capitol this week.

There is also a Coastal Flood Advisory for Southern Westchester County. This includes Port Chester.

NOT GOOD >>> Even before the snow falls >>>>Flights canceled $ governor declares State of Emergency!!!!!!!!

"When this thing hits, it's going to hit hard and it's going to put a ton of snow on the ground in a hurry," Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker told reporters on Monday. He urged people to consider working from home if they could.

"It's going to snow hard and fast for a long period of time. It will create whiteout conditions," Baker said.

Airlines preemptively canceled more than 4,000 flights ahead of the storm, according to tracking service FlightAware.com. The airports with the most cancellations were Newark International Airport in New Jersey and Boston Logan International Airport.

American Airlines canceled all flights into New York's three metropolitan area airports, Newark, LaGuardia Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport, and JetBlue Airways reported extensive cancelations.

Delta Air Lines canceled 800 flights for Tuesday for New York, Boston and other northeast airports, and United Airlines said it would have no operations at Newark or LaGuardia.

"We’re keeping a close eye on things and depending on how things go, will plan to ramp back up Wednesday morning," United said in a statement.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency, and New York City, Boston and Providence, Rhode Island, canceled public school sessions for Tuesday in anticipation of the storm.

Leaving Woodstock, NY in 30 min, headed to the Courtyard in Rye.

See you at the Cap tomorrow....no, scratch that, WEDNESDAY.  We decided to get there a day early, State of Emergency and all.

Travel safe, my friends. #preciousCARGO

Winter Storm Stella may undergo bombogenesis Monday evening into Tuesday evening — an ominous sounding term frequently used in the winter to describe powerful storms that intensify rapidly.

The word is a combination of cyclogenesis, which describes the formation of a cyclone or storm, and bomb, which is, well, pretty self-explanatory.

Hudson Valley Weather predicts we could get 16-24 inches of snow, total.

The timing from Hudson Valley Weather:
•Beginning between 3 a.m and 7 a.m. on Tuesday
•Falling heavily from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
•Tapering off snow showers between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday
•Showers plus blowing and drifting snow continue into wednesday

http://patch.com/new-york/portchester

I am only 20 min from the cap & the roads s/b clear by show time,

but there will not be any port chester parking, in lots or on street.

We're here, and I could use a Friday extra!

And maybe a place to park.

Does the Philton shuttle service pick up after the show?

^Park at the mall (but not on the level that has stores or ground level).  3-4 minute walk.  More if you're stubby-legged.

The firm where I gig is shutting down @ 11 tonight and not opening tomorrow.  Paycheck hit, but The Bride is happy.

If we don't lose power, we're good.  And if we do, we still have gas.  We can cook everything perishable.

Although they haven't done it yet, CT, NJ and NY have an emergency travel ban ready to drop. Expect all non-emergency vehicle travel to be banned from approximately noon Tues until noon Wed.>>>

This i why I got here today, and darn glad i did it, love the Hyatt...went shopping in White Plains ( that was an experience) !! I am a flatlander and never have been in a wal mart in a city, you have to park in a garage and they have escalators for your shopping cart :)  My hall will be the one filled with the aroma of brownies baking tomorrow . All tucked in the room and cozy comfy, i really needed some me time...taking care of mom is wearing me down, and very emotional to watch her health get  bad.

Safe travels to all, gonna pull out my jewelry supplies and make Joan and Jill a cute pair of earrings....maybe I will run into them even ((( giggling ))). I heard from a birdie here the band is on my floor...:)

I love this hotel, great, clean and spacious rooms....super friendly staff too. We got a super deal !!!

So where are you supposed to park if there are no lots or street parking? Car is the only way for me to get there from Jersey. Hate to eat my ticket but don't want to be towed or get a ticket.

Ms. CumberLyn, Happy to see that you're all snuggled up in the comfortable Hyatt room. Great decision to get there before the Deluge. Have a Wonderful batch of Shows, and thanks for the Flower Show photos laugh

There is a lot across the street from the Cap & another  one a block away

there is street parking.

all around the cap. just gotta find a spot.

Buckle up kids

Called the Port Chester police. Anyone parked on streets will be towed because of the snow. Who knows if the lord will be plowed. Going to call the Cap on Wednesday morning for an update. For me, no lot, no show.

PARK.

AT.

THE.

MALL.

Free.

Legal.

Covered.

lol !! I don't think he heard you.....say it again Bri  ;)

ok, i got it - park at the mall.

Is this the one?   Washington Park Plaza,  261 S Ridge St, Port Chester, NY 10573

Thanks

If it has movie theaters, probably.

Sorry, but I can't name a street up there other than W'checster Ave.  If you were to turn left walking out of the Cap, it's a few blocks over on the opposite side of the Ave.

If it's got four levels, I think you can park on two and three.  All the stores are at the top. It's never crowded on 2, tho' mall peeps may park there if the top deck isn't cleared.

The movie theater is here 40 Westchester Ave, Port Chester, NY 10573 it's only about a 100 yards to the left down Westchester Ave.

It looked like a typical "cityburban mallplex" setup.

I did not partake.

Just giving directions here, absolutely no knowledge of any snow protocols

Game on, here.

Nothing 20 minutes ago. Now, the cars and driveway are covered.

Not the street, tho.

OK...Fell into a bit of a guitar vortex for a few hours there.  Noodle City In Dropped-D.

Snowing hard enough now to have the whole block's motion-sensor lights on pretty much constantly.

I'm gonna get some ZZZs before the snowblowers, ect. start making noise.

Stay safe, phreaks.

The Birthday Show Blizzard of '17

blizz1.jpg

There is a statewide travel ban in effect for all of Connecticut. Essential travel only.

I would make the case that celebrating Phil's 77th is essential travel.

strange turn of events.  hardly any snow on ground.  the windows are tinkling as the ice hits.

it is still early but this bodes well for wed's show at the cap.

i am  sending those ol' energy vibes to the weather gods.  no snow!!!

It's already being downgraded....the area around the Cap will b fine come 2morrow night by showtime...we got 6 inches in Stamford and it's already mixing w rain...the snow totals were way off...roads will b open by tonight..safe travels to peeps still on their way..

Agreed, Phils 77th is essential travel. Wednesday there won't be any travel shut downs.

New York City is expected to get less snow than forecast in a late-winter storm that has slammed other parts of the mid-Atlantic and Northeast.

Snow changed over to pelting sleet in the city early Tuesday, and the National Weather Service says to expect 4 to 6 inches of snow, after earlier forecasts of 18 inches or more.

The dreaded wintry mix!!

we landed in Rye before much accumulation but now all is covered in thick snow. I hear the sleet on the window, icy snow.

the plow is clearing the hotel parking lot with regularity.

i feel good about tomorrow's show, but travel today remains dangerous. Please be safe!!!!!

i doubt this show was in danger of being cancelled.  they didnt cancel the beacon 06 show with 2 feet of snow.

3/15  reg tix on sale FWIW

Safe travels, everyone! Now it appears that we are leaving this afternoon and getting in very late tonight. Eek!

hard telling but theres about 18" + on the ground here in the Pocono's and its coming down fast and steady - winds have started to pick up over the morning

So park by the wall. Got it.

Oh wait, park at the mall!

Thanks, Relio!

grate show that night!

Metro North Railroad service is suspended. The wind is howling, impossible to keep the roads clear around here. The plow clears my street and the wind blows the snow right back. We've got over 14 inches so far and no sign of it letting up. I live about 60 miles North of Port Chester.

GA floors for 3/15 and Balcony's for 3/16 are for sale on the cap site. 3/17 still shows as "Sold Out".

4 GA tix for 65.00 on cashortrade for tmrw. i think you can probably buy cheaper better on the street

Have a blast folks!

Be safe--hope you get plenty of heat on that stage.

Here's a peek at some of the posters for this run... I like the green one the best...

^^^^Yep green one is the good one.

Not over.  Had sleet bouncing off my coat when I went out to free the car.  Now there's a light snow falling.

Good evening to all. Nice posters. Like the March 17 head and shoulders above the rest.

Great to see so much good news with people arriving early and beating back all that Stella has thrown.  Really really nice  to see that the snow fall in some areas was not as bad as expected.  My journey has been uneventful so far and that's a good thing.  Alarm clock woke me up at 5:30 AM  yesterday.   Flying internationally and after 2 legs and 17 hours landed in Detroit. Drinking a very cold and snowy "Old Detroit" Amber. Yummy. Got a three hour layover before my scheduled flight to JFK tonight at 8:30 fingers crossed.  If all goes as planned  I will be landing in JFK around 10:30.

While I like AJ's posters, do you think the Cap could get another artist to do the main poster for the run? Barf

We're gonna be good for the show tomorrow. We got much less snow than forecast.

Here we come Phil to help celebrate your birthday!

Had 20" by 4:00pm today and it's continued to come down heavy 3 1/2 hours later. Forecast for over a foot more through tomorrow.

Its bitter cold and wind chill feels like minus 20. Snow has turned to ice and driving from the airport was a bit of a white knuckle ride for the cabby. What a fucking releif.
