Billy Strings @ The Frost Tonight & Tomorrow

Forums:

Wish I could be there, but it's just not happening for me this weekend. I will, however, be watching the webcast on nugs.net. These shows are free for subscribers, so if you pony up $12.99 for a one month subscription, it's a pretty good deal for two shows, plus there's archive video of the earlier shows from Nampa, Portland, Seattle, and Sacramento.

The shows last weekend in Portland were some of the best I have seen.  Very psychedelic and heavy and first time I have seen Billy play an arena.  He owned it.   Saw someone commenting on Billy's FB page that they got freaked out by how heavy and dark it sounded and swore that Billy found his skills down by the crossroads.

BTW - the Nugs subscription is very much worth it.   We hardly watch any TV but will frequently stream shows using Nugs.

I'll be there tonight. 6pm start is kind of crazy.

It's tough on a Friday for sure. Have JRAD tix for nexy Friday but unsure I want to deal with the commute from Marin.

Seeing him Tuesday. Seats 5 rows behind the pit, center. I'll be standing a lot, but can sit when I want or need to.

Nugs does a $50.00 a year deal sometimes. $4 a month for that? Hell yeah.

Great shows, great venue, great times.   Good to see Emily, Pierce and Nancy.  It had been a long time but familiar faces were most welcome.

Venue, had no issues with security either night.  Wish I had brought a blanket to mark an area like most other people.  It wasn't an issue the first night as it wasn't that packed but the second night must have been sold out as people were watching along the back fences. It felt like double the crowd.  As such, i enjoyed the first night much more.

Each night had a bit of a different vibe and flow.  I thought the first night was much more Billy focus with constant shredding starting around the middle of the first set.   The second night felt like more of a well rounded band approach, less shredding, more "hits" if you can call it that.  I felt that way about seeing him in an arena in the spring too, more hits, more showcase of the band, etc.  The smaller or off nights seem to have more fire from him.  (That is my experience, not saying it's a pattern).  I'm not sure if he was tired the second night or just in a different zone but it still was incredibly fun and the some of the songs lifted off just as much as i needed them to.

NoiceI  Looking forward to when these shows hit the LMA.

While waiting in line for the gates  to open, a few campus tourists asked what's going on at the Frost, and then: why does this band attracts so many deadheads. 'What's the connection'?

at the time I just said it's because we like good psychedelic music. Clearly more of a connection than that but I can't put my finger on it.

Whatcha got?

 .PS

Hi Zang. What a nice surprise to see you. And  Emily.  And that tall zoner with his cap down low.

Nancy, I think a big part of the connection is that Billy, like Jerry before him, has opted for fun in this lifetime.

That, and, at our best, deadheads and Billy heads are both examples of intentional communities (the moveable feast kind), I'd say.

Well, many bands have fun and movable  communities, just not seeing a ton of Swifties at the shows..

Secret zoners with their hats down low

Excellent.   Thank you.

Hoping the first night appears.
