Bill Grahm’s Best GD intros:

"The last of the gay troubadours ". 3/1/69

The grate high hope... from the same show

"The oldest juveniles in the state of CA"

(or something very similar, date unknown)

The Charles Atlas of the psychedelic set...

Correction:  desperados. Sorry

I second the Charles Atlas one...even Bill Graham knew what a set is. I bet he wouldn't confuse OG with 'original' either.  That shit has always meant Original Gangster...(way before IceT put out the album in 91)

I am also fond of the one by one introduction for 6-17-75...'mr Jerry Garcia'...

"They are the greatest rock 'n roll band that ever was, the Grateful Dead."

After band introductions at the end of the show, early in the morning of 1/1/79.

It's a basic one but I've always loved it. The emotion in his voice is palpable.

Phil: "I just want you all to know out there that this is the happiest day of my life"  At 8:26 mark

"San Franciso's answer to The Magnificent Seven...The Grateful Dead!" (paraphrased)

Fillmore 1968-69 (maybe?)

Ah yes. I had a moment to find my choice. Ultimately not close to 8/13/75 (the best Bill Graham GD intro) for pure performance or the other choices for fun or levity, but just dripping with the true greatness of that night.

Very basic, but HEAVY with the moment, at the end of one of the bands all-time great performances. A heavy moment for sure.

You have to wait a beat for it, but he was right; they WERE the greatest rock 'n roll band that ever was.

You can hear the emotion in his voice, and also when he says Jerry's name.

What a night that was.

Such a night.

Long live the Grateful Dead.
