Bill Frisell

Forums:

I just came back from a wonderful night of music with world renowned Grammy awarded Jazz guitar great,

Mr. Bill Frisell and double bass extraordinaire Thomas Morgan over at the Boulton Center in Bayshore Long Island.

I was officially tripping at the master's knee. Bill was breaking every Jazz guitar rule; starting with his Fender Telecaster and his special effect guitar pedals.

{The night wasn't perfect, the mellow was harshed, as a couple got into an argument, and the shows was halted for a moment}

Bill played all these cool songs from his new CD with Thomas Morgan "Small Town".

The encores were. "When you wish upon a Star" and "Goldfinger", the James Bond movie theme song.

I love Bill Frisell and can't wait to see him again. Hopefully with Thomas Morgan on Double Bass.

Oh, cool. Thanks for this, Noodler.

I just saw him the night before at Daryl's House in Pawling,NY.

I was present for some of the most beautiful sounds I've ever heard in my life. When they played the title track Small Town I was brought to tears.

I brought my camera out to take a picture of what turned out to be my view for most of the show, turned out it was just as they walked ou to take the stage

This place was out in the sticks, so it felt like the most appropriate atmosphere in which to listen to this acoustic bass/electric guitar duo play music meant to represent the emotional ambience of small town america

They opened with a sweet cover of Epistrophy (Thelonious Monk) and ended the set with another cover of What the World Needs Now is Love (Burt Bacharach)

What a unbelievable vantage point, Yimmy That might have been the best seat in the house. Thanks to you and Bluelight for sharing the photos

I was hesitant about the duo format, but clearly that was ridiculous of me. Seems like this tour has been a real success. I hope they tour again in this format.

Very nice Ricky. Nice to see a smile and some fret action. Quaint place.

Yeah, apparently Daryl's House is Daryl Hall's joint. I didn't know this until afterward, it did explain why they had so many Hall and Oates posters all over the place. It was a pretty cool place to see music, he modeled the interior of the place to match the aesthetics of his own house. Though there was the downside of people eating/being served food during the show. There were several times when I was yanked from my sonic revery by the clanking of plates and cutlery. Also, my vantage point was somewhat unfortunately similar to BlueLights in that I was staring at Frisell's back for basically the whole show. I moved over to the other side so I could actually witness him pluck a string and was rewarded nicely. I was happy with my original position though, Frisell's guitar sounded better on the right side nearer his amp and I wasn't next to the bathroom.

i love tele players

Looks like a visually stunning performance

Think he's playing at Montreux this year, hope they stream it!

Thanks for the links.

A What the World Needs now is Love similar to that played on this tour, save for the drums and electricity of the bass
