Big Dead Show 39 Years Ago Today——-Syracuse ‘84

Big in terms of venue and playing....Last show of the '84 Fall Tour, last Dead show at the Carrier Dome...

One of those shows I remember pretty clearly for it being almost 40 years ago; a big Bertha->Greatest Story to start,

a nice Bird Song, and a ripping, Angry-Bobby Jack Straw to end the set. The crowd up front was crazy; Weir had to plead

at least twice for people to move back or the Fire Marshal was going to shut down the show....

So naturally to calm the crowd down for the second set, Garcia comes out with a Monster Shakedown Street, then a great

He's Gone-> Smokestack, a ripping Lovelight to end the set, and then the cherry on the sundae, a Revolution encore for the second year

in a row in Syracuse. Awesome, crowd was buzzing on exit, pushed out the doors by the "wind"....What a night.

Next stop for the band, Berkeley Community Theatre for the epic 6-night run. Wish I had been there.

(If someone could do an archive link of the show, that would be helpful...)

I was at that one too, incredibly fun and great show!

I assume the Charlie Miller SBD mix will be okay, Local?

I caught all of the NE shows this tour, and the Syracuse show still stands out for me. The band was in fine form, and the crowd was pretty amped from start to finish. 39 years tho? Yikes.

I used to love this tape. Listened to it many times.

I heard that Phil's Bomb on Jack Straw was perhaps sonic.

3rd year in a row the Fall Tour closed at the Dome.

Loved the '82 show. Probably the only time I saw 6 full songs post Drums/Space, then an encore.  Great Iko, slow, funky late 70's version devil

Thank you Mike....Charlie Miller is just fine!!

Krab, the '82 show was my first time seeing the band. It was pretty intense for a just-turned-13 year old....

They played 2 songs I knew, Truckin' and Sugar Magnolia---(many years later I'd find myself giving Weir shit about

almost always fucking up lines in Truckin'....I think he laughs because he knows it's true....)

The Drums blew my young mind away, in that indoor stadium that was so big it seemed like you could land a 747 in it.....

And yes on the Slow Iko, which of course I didn't know at the time; I think this is the last time they played it that slow,

I'll have to look into that one!

I went to all three Carrier Dome shows, '82-'84; it was funny later to realize that after closing tours in that way-too-big for

the band venue, they would return to California and play "classic" small venues:

Frost Amphitheater (for the first time) in '82.

Marin Civic (for the first time) in '83.

Berkeley Community Theatre, 6 night run in '84.

I was there in 83. If you remember an amazing Frisbee dog on lot, that was us.

I was also there, this post is going to make me listen to it again.  It's been a while!
I'm at JFK waiting for flt to France, maybe I can Download it before takeoff :-)

I was there in '83 too. I was almost more excited to see the Roberson-less Band as I was the Dead

Must've been 84 for me. The Band didn't open.

All the years combine.......

Never a big fan of the cavernous sound sucking Carrier Dome. I saw all three shows, 82-84 there. I much prefer the Onondaga War Memorial where I saw the band perform 1981 & 1982.
