Best shows - 2020

Forums:

I just realized that there was no best-of-year show thread for 2020.

Understandable, given the evil circumstances of 2020, but I did go to some shows last year, and I bet some of you did too, so here's my top ten list for 2020...

(I saw a total of ten shows last year, so it wasn't that hard to pick, but still, fuck it! Here's my list!)

2020 Top Ten

1. - CUP w/ Nels Cline & Yuka Honda - Swedish American Hall, SF

2. - Bill Graham's Bday Bash w/Los Lobos - Fillmore, SF

3. - Phil & Friends w/ Stu, Lebo, Crosby & Amendola - TxR

4. - Phil & Friends w/ Stu, Scott Law, Crosby & Molo - TxR

5. - Sandy Rothman w/ The Waller Bros. - Bird & Beckett Bookstore, SF

6. - ROVA Sax Quartet w/ Myra Medford - Hertz Hall, Cal Berkeley

7. - Ensemble Ari w/ Rhoslyn Jones - Covenant Presbyterian Church, Palo Alto

8. - Jeremy Pelt Quintet - Kuumbwa, Santa Cruz

9. - David Sanborn Quintet - Kuumbwa, Santa Cruz

10.  Jason Moran & Marvin Sewell - Kuumbwa, Santa Cruz

Wha/choo got????????????

Lance... yesterday was Sandy Rothman's 75th birthday. We share! Was my 60th!

5. Phil & Friends w/ Stu, Lebo, Crosby & Amendola - TxR

6. Phil & Friends w/ Stu, Scott Law, Crosby & Molo - TxR

7. Stanley Jordan - Sweetwater

8. Leo Kottke - TXR

9. Gatorators - TXR

10. Wolf Brothers - Sweewater

It's hard to believe I caught 10 shows in the short time frame for concerts that 2020 offered!

Hot Tuna/Bromberg Fillmore

DNB Hawaii

Zoom/Streams  not included...

DNB Uncle Robert's Awa Bar, BI HI

or DNB at chuck n gloria's...

really couldn't have asked for anything better.

I saw one show.  Richard Thompson "By Request" (literally a basket full of titles on little slips of paper).

Seems fitting that Keep Your Distance was played.

I doubt it was the best, but sure was fun;

WCZJ

Tool at the Moda Center.    As the band was playing its encore, the governor was announicing a ban on mass gatherings.

Hot Tuna/Bromberg Fillmore

I forgot about this one, that was a raging Tuna show!

I think I only saw The New Mastersounds at the Chapel. Loved it.

A Stringdusters show March 8th was about it, I think. Had tickets for Todd Snider - postponed. Still holding them.

Ok matt hartle Halloween moms was pretty fine

i know there are more but I am mentally challenged

I can't believe the only thing I saw was one Wolf Bros. show at Sweetwater.

I had ticks to few Dylan shows and one Stones show; maybe later this year.

only saw 2 nights (and one afternoon) of live music last year:

8th (mostly)annual Cracker/Camper Van Beethoven Camp-In:

Camper Van Beethoven, Cracker, Eyelids, John Cameron Mitchell (with Peter Buck, Jay Gonzales of DBT, VK, JES, & Eyelids and a brief appearance by Mike Mills), Jesse Malin Band, Jonathan Segel (improv set), Victor Krummenacher (with Greg Lisher & J. Segel).

John Cameron Mitchell was one of the most cathartic emotional musical experiences i've had in a long, long time.

we had (or were planning on having) tickets for the Third Mind, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and Bikini Kill.

Only one show, but in the front row!

Los Lobos Fillmore (Bill Graham bday)

Railroad Earth at Fillmore 2 nights - saw those for free! for some reason the charge never showed up on my credit card bill

Leftover Salmon/ALO at Warfield, the last weekend before everything shut down.

LLTD,  Elvin Bishop is always a blast.

It's nice that you Nelson Band lovers got your Hawaii trip & shows in before the world shut down.

I had plans on seeing quite a number of shows in March & April, but nothing that was a big deal like a Hawaii blowout. And if I remember correctly, it was a good run of shows and you all had a big hoot, so that's good.

I like these threads, hopefully we'll hear from a few others.

Carry on.

>Railroad Earth at Fillmore 2 nights

I saw RRE in Felton and then a Todd house concert that week.  Feels like longer than a year...

My top 5 before the spit hit the fan were:

Kamasi Washington @ Empire Garage

Los Lobos/Ozomatli @ Moody Theatre

OM @ Mohawk

TAB @ Moody Theatre

Any one of the three Radiators reunion shows @ Tipitina's.

Seems like ages ago.

I saw three shows in 2020,

Two before the spit, one mid-spit

Billy Strings @ the Cap

Greensky Bluegrass @ the Met Philly

Cabinet @ the Grateful Getdown 5

The Billy show was the best.

Still holding tix for Phil @ the Cap, & Hershey Phish

>>>OM @ Mohawk, that’s a nice one Isrider

For me my choices are limited

RRE-Belly Up

DSO at SD HOB (Big Brown in da house)

Hot Fuckin Tuna electric at The Belly Up was my favorite / show of 2020 opened w Serpent of Dreams and closed w Funky # 7 and played a lot of great Tuna classics in between.

West Coast Zoner Jam

David Nelson shows 2-9

Grateful for these experiences given world events.
