Yesterday on Instagram was a post that read: "40 years ago today, comedy legend John Belushi cartwheeled onstage just in time to sing the chorus to US Blues with The Dead, against the bands wishes, of course". Then showed ONE pic of him singing next to Jerry (on what I assume was Bob's mic), then saying that that shot "is all that remains", with no further info.
Obviously it wasn't the closing of Winterland w/Blues Brothers run, so does anyone here at The Zone have any scoop on this? 'Cuz Deadheads with plenty of time on their hands just hafta' know...

It was at the Cap center I
It was at the Cap center I recall. I have listed to the tapes but I cant pick up hearing his voice. I think all of the band were for it except Phil who vetoed the idea at halftime.

Not sure if he cartwheeled onto stage. But he did during Jerry's solo.

Rumor has it Phil vetoed
Rumor has it Phil vetoed Belushi sitting in, but he did anyway (think Billy was mentioning the rest of the band was thrilled)
Belushi did the cartwheel bit then sat in on the encore when I saw Muddy Waters at the Roxy back in 78(?)

So, I still have my ticket
So, I still have my ticket from the April Fools show 4/1/80. I was going from Philly with a buddy and his car crapped out the day before--we were both in high school. So, we missed the show. I missed everyone coming out on different instruments for the first song, but 40 years latter, I still have the original Tickemaster ticket. The buzz was great because friends were at the 3/30 show where Belushi came out and were raving. I miss the good ole Capitol Theater-cut my musical teeth at that place--countless JGB, Jerry solo acoustic, Jorma/Tuna, Bobby & The Midnights, NRPS, Levon Helm and many, many others.

Blakesberg (sp?) took the
Blakesberg (sp?) took the Belushi/Garcia photo, and I think he said
they knew something was happening the next night but he didn't bring his
camera, or some crazy Dead Head space-out like that.
As far as I know, not one photo has surfaced of them doing Promised Land.
Where was Jim Anderson when we needed him?
For those who don't know the lineup was:
Bobby---Keys
Brent and Jerry---Drums
Billy----Bass
Mickey---Rhythm guitar and vocals
Phil----Lead guitar

I read somewhere that Belushi
I read somewhere that Belushi asked the band if he could do the cartwheels, and everyone said OK except Phil who vetoed it. But Belushi ran onstage and did it anyway...
