The Beatles were pretty funny

Forums:

“Back in The USSR” was just on and after all of these years I finally put together the “Georgia’s always on my my my my my my my my my mind” is a reference to Ray Charles’ “Georgia On My Mind”.

That’s pretty clever

Did they ever do anything else funny that you know about

I didn't know Rubber Soul was a play on plastic soul until recently. Pretty cool they were able to make fun of themselves.

Bucky, have you ever watched Hard Days Night or Help?

"Martha My Dear" is one of Paul's series of tunes about his girlfriend Jane Asher, but the title refers to his Old English Sheepdog.

"Dear Prudence" is about Mia Farrow's sister who was in India at Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's retreat at the same time and would spend extended times in her hut meditating.  "Bugalow Bill" was another student/devotee there.

"Sexy Sadie" is about the Maharishi, who John, paticularly, and Paul were skeptical of, causing them to split and leave George behind.

The "White Album" is loaded with both lyrical and musical whimsy.

i haven’t I’ve seen Yellow Submarine with the blue meanies I didn’t like it much

17 moments when The Beatles were hilarious

Well, IMO, Hard Days Night is great (and funny!), while Help falls somewhere between HDN and YS.

Was there ever a Beatles breakfast cereal?

There were Beatles cards.

I had a gazillion Beatles cards and my mom threw them away when I went to summer camp one year.  They'd probably be worth something now.

Bungalow Bill mentioned above...just the title alone..."the continuing story of bungalow bill", considering it is not ever continued, nor was a follow up to earlier story etc...it was written at time of India trip, as Dave mentions^. Bill is actually a college student from U.S. who was traveling w his Mom...everyone got along w them except for John, who didnt really like the kid (so "they" say). One day, the locals planned a tiger hunting trip for them, and they all rode out on elephants to begin the hunt. A tiger actually attacked or tried to attack one of the elephants , and this kid reacted and shot said tiger.

He became the hero of the day, but john was pissed a tiger had been killed.

Im not even sure if Beatles were on the hunting trip itself, but, thats the story basically..i think calling it the "continuing story" was johns way of talking about an issue via a song, without flat out talking about an issue etc...guns, violence, hunting in general etc....either way, they all had great senses of humor, and of timing with their humor etc..it comes across in their earliest interviews, their songs, and yes, def watch a Hard Days Night if you havent seen it....ppl said they were born for the big screen after seeing how easily and comfortably they took to it

Unfortuntaly, the rest of their movies suck...lol...pauls idea for the magical mystery tour, and to film w no script at all, was just not a good idea.

“Polythene Pam” is funny I don’t know what it means but it’s funny to say try it.

"Lovely Rita Meter-maid" song is about a working girl dressed as a meter-maid,  so they say.

“The Walrus is Paul”

Cracks me up every time I hear that song.

The Beatles were a riot. Clever and funny.

All four extremely smart, charming and witty young men.

John Lennon's genius and wit were above and beyond even that.

What Roarshock said. Smart, clever, witty, funny, silly, yes indeed...

Watch Hard Day's Night, Bucky.

>>Did they ever do anything else funny that you know about

Yeah, they used to smoke lots of weed in cars & fuck with the media relentlessly; but had great time doing it while the media kept the cops at bay.

Fun times in the UK.

Maggie Mae is funny too I just listened to it

Yep, when you get three of the greatest songwriters of all time in one band, they're bound to be some witty mofo's.

Reporter to Ringo: "Are you a 'Mod' or a 'Rocker'?

Ringo: "Neither, I'm a Mocker."
