A Bass Solo You Love

Forums:

I'll start with Dave Holland's solo of Coltrane's Mr. P.C.

Let's see 'em!

(((when drums stop)))

^^ Jack's overdrive bass tone is INSANE.

Me likey :)

As a bass player, I am not a big fan of bass solos, but always liked "Bouree" by Jethro Tull.

That cat Glenn Cornick could play a mean bass.  RIP.

Eat your heart out Robert Hunter:

Big Bottom, Spinal Tap

The bigger the cushion, the sweeter the pushin'
That's what I said
The looser the waistband, the deeper the quicksand
Or, so I've read.
My baby fits me like a flesh tuxedo
I love to sink her with my pink torpedo.

Big bottom
Big bottom
Talk about bum cakes
My gal's got 'em.
Big bottom
Drive me out of my mind.
How can I leave this behind?

I saw her on Monday, twas my lucky bun day
You know what I mean.
I love her each weekday, each velvety cheek day
You know what I mean.
My love gun's loaded and she's in my sights
Big game's waiting there inside her tights.

Big bottom
Big bottom
Talk about mud flaps
My gal's got 'em.
Big bottom
Drive me out of my mind.
How can I leave this behind?

Yeah, Simple Twist is a great one.

Nothing flashy or technically jaw dropping, but the brief bass solo in Murder by David Gilmour is a strong example of "for the song - not your ego" in my books.

Nice call on the Pretenders riff earworm.

Fuck You Brother Lassen !!@@

Some shit you're just so wrong about, but then you go hittin' the nail on the head and I have to agree with you whole heartedly --

Jaco - end of thread

Of course Entwistle solo'd thru every song his band ever played. Chris Squire too

I went to see Herbie Hancock two weeks ago. Kamasi Washington opened the show. I'm pretty new to Kamasi and his band and was blown away by his bass player, Miles Mosley. Here's a clip of a similar solo he did back in May of this year- not the best video, but it's in the live setting nonetheless.

Also, this song Abraham he does is awesome!

So, it's not a bass "solo", but I always loved Graham Maby's bass on Joe Jackson's Sunday Papers. Pretty badass imo.

Michael Jackson - Billie Jean

I'm not a fan of bass solo's and a specific one doesn't come to mind, but there are a few bass players I've seen over the years who can do something musical more than show off their chops.

Many have already been mentioned, a few not mentioned yet...
