Seriously, when at a party drinking beer do you really want to eat birthday cake?

A: No

I don't like coconut, especially on cakes or donuts.

Who is going Tuesday or Wednesday? Meeting spot, pregame? I have not met many east coast Zoners.

I also have extra tix for those nights.

What are they, too good for lsd laced punch?

kidz these days

I haven't been to MSG for a concert since the early 90's. Do they still have the charcoal roasted pretzel vendors outside the venue post-show? I loved that smell after a good night at the Garden...

From MSG central...

PLAN YOUR TRAVEL: Amtrak recently confirmed their emergency repair plans for the summer, which will impact transit into and out of NY Penn Station through at least September 1st. We recognize that this may create challenges for those who travel to our venues via NJ Transit or the LIRR. In light of the upcoming track work, the MTA and NJ Transit have announced several action plans to help alleviate anticipated delays and prevent major disruptions from occurring. Please visit www.NJTransit.com and www.mta.info to learn more about how these changes may impact your travel, review the alternate transportation plans, and stay abreast of the latest mass transit updates. ⠀ ⠀ ⠀
ARRIVAL AT THE GARDEN: We have increased security measures across all of our Madison Square Garden venues and are working closely with local law enforcement in New York. In order to ensure that everyone may enjoy an unforgettable and safe experience at Madison Square Garden, we kindly ask you to consider the following precautions when visiting our venues:⠀
· We ask that all patrons significantly minimize the number of bags brought to the venue. This will speed up your entry during security checks.⠀
· Please plan ahead and allow yourself enough time to pass through security. Doors will open at 6:30p allowing you to come into the venue, enjoy refreshments and find your seat.⠀ ⠀

YOUR BEST ENTRANCE: ⠀
· We recommend using the 8th Avenue entrances on 31st and 33rd Streets for entry when possible. This will allow you to enter the venue faster. ⠀
· Are you a GA ticket holder? If so, you must enter via the glass doors located at the corner of 33rd Street near 8th Avenue. This is the ONLY ENTRANCE you may access with a GA ticket.⠀ ⠀

Your safety and security is of great importance to us and we look forward to seeing you at your upcoming event at Madison Square Garden.

Chinarider...very slight chance i may head up , down, over, for wednesday.., poss. Without tix, either way, .if i do...we ll figure out a way to get in touch...ill know more by Sunday...

Phish sucks, find a real band to write about.

If anybody who attended wants to b&p one of those donuts hit me up.

Ok ...lets play name that donut...strawberry fields is a no brainer for a strawberry flavored donut some night...that takes care of 2 nights...i can think of one other...chocalate....but, 13 flavors??

What else is in that box, poster thing, they used for promo? Doez anyone have list of all 13 flavors? Is there a "honey" donut? Id love to hear them do some Herb Alpert...lol...

Ok...i need coffee....fck the donut...

Bet they have a maple and bacon donut

anyone get the ice cream going in?

Rob- report back!

Just called him and no answer.

Let me take you down...

^and there ya go....

Nice work Zooey

Good to see ya back on the East Coast Ro. If I wasn't still a little too immobile for NYC I'd make an effort to meet up at one of these shows. Have fun & hope to see you soon.

Thanks for asking him, B

Btw, do I know who you are in person?

Hey Chuck!

So glad you are recovering!

im not there yet

that pic was sent from friend going on yesterday, who is doing all 13!

im so glad we all went to those DNB shows!

I would go just for the eats!

I like the idea that the band is thinking.

I would love to shake around for a show or two.

>>

Thanks for asking him, B

Btw, do I know who you are in person?

no problem

no. we never met

Moonage Daydream was G Gordon Titties.

Much better version than Halloween, which was hobbled by the extra singers and strings.

Strawberry Letter 23 by Shuggie Otis?

https://youtu.be/0FX6tpjQboQ

Heading over tonight again.  Staying near Bryant Park (5th Ave & 40th  Street).

Anyone wants to meet for a Beer pre-show,  Gingerman is 11 E. 36th near Madison.  There's another multi-mega draught Beer place also on 36th within a block or two,  I may look over their menu this afternoon.

Tonite I'm in section 213.

^ maybe thatll be set 2 closer, acapella...or vice versa w Strawb Fields etc...

How about a cover from Stawberry Alarm Clock?

Seems like everyone has Google and did the same "strawberry songs" search.

Actually, I searched "strawberry" in the ITunes store and listened to clips until I found one I thought Phish would do to find Strawberry Letter 23.

I didn't need Google or iTunes to think of Strawberry Fields Forever.

I don't think Phish would do Strawberry Wine by Ryan Adams, my favorite strawberry song.

Ya, im sure none of us coulda come up w strawberry fields on our own...lol...just busting stones, but ...its my job...

The alarm clock (as we all know) is best known for the song i mentioned in thread earlier...im changing my guess for tonite to a strawberry fields opener, and an Incense and Peppermints set 2 closer...

Have fun tonite, disco, tatters, and all....

Be kind....enjoy....safe home

I wasn't talking about you guys.

Just seeing the exact same speculation all over the place.

Remember: it's not a good show until everyone gets home safely.

I haven't read enough reviews of the donuts, what's the word?

they look pretty good

And....here we go....

Strawberry Fields Forever

They can....but...will they?

Sure looks that way, with 5 pre nyc shows full of trey and mike solo effort tunes....i think theyre gonna give it a go....and if they do that...im thinking in the middle, like night 6 or 7...ill go, and catch debut of pink floyd animals album>rubber soul....

Pretty OK show last night. Certainly a bunch of songs I hadn't seen in a while, over ever. I liked the first set better. Moma, Funky B. Second set couldn't really regain it's footing.

With the the song selection so far, it does lean toward no repeats during the run. That would certainly be an impressive feat.

The sound from the Tapers section was absolutely amazing. As good as I've heard at a Phish show in recent memory.

Personally I think the Baker's Dozen art schoolish theme is a little too gimmicky but that's just me. Meh. Show up and play.

Heading back again toward the tail end of the run.

IMG_0189.JPG

Hmmmm...

Ahhh, smokestack w the scoop...lol

Too easy....blue velvet acapella....velvet sea is a no brainer, maybe chili peppers velvet glove, and might as well throw in rock and roll from velvet underground....

I really liked strawberry letter #23 last night...loved the red lights during ...what??..a strawberry jam?....lol...

Has Phish ever played Suzy Creamcheese?

It could happen....

Sweet Jane or Panama Red for tonight's donut flavor song? I know, not likely.

^^ brilliant minds, RRG...first thing i thought of...nice creamcheese, greenburg medley...but, then of course theyd be repeating...so maybe leave out SG, just a stand alone creamcheese?

Sweet Jane is a good guess. Velvet Sea seems inevitable. Would love to see Blue Velvet - maybe they could change the lyrics to Red Velvet...

(Mom jeans) would be a good name for a phish song

The Roggae was also good last night. Worth a listen.

<<<Can the phishies do13 consecutive shows with no repeats?

Absolutely, and that's currently the plan.

The first show had a Tweezer so the last show's encore calls for a Tweezer Reprise - guess that's not technically a repeat.

^ figured thats the night 13 second set closer, or more than likely...third encore...and just a short reprise...but, ya, they have to "finish" w it...i agree

I hope im there for a sneakin sally...ill be there last night...and hpfly a cpl before...i and a few friends, etc. Will decide tmrw what days we can all go etc

maybe they will play a velvet underground tune or hendrix's red house tonite???

Velvet Underground is certainly possible. Sweet Jane? Oh, Sweet Nothin'?

They have covered both of those before, though.

Ya know what, this no repeat thing

means if you don't do all 13

you miss fave songs :(

robspac- report back!!

JRAD was completion last night:)

Theyve also done lou reed covers...we can accept a few of those tonite as well.....judges said it was ok

maybe a cream cover???

VU - Sunday Morning

[Never miss a Sunday doughnut.]

Axilla, Your Pet Cat ?

How many doughnuts do they handout? 130? 1300?  It's a fun take on the baker's dozen thing.

Phish said "Never miss a Sunday donut" in the Facebook announcement this morning, pictured above.

No one took the hint.

I don't know how many donuts they hand out, Judit. I would guess at least a few thousand, but less than the capacity of MSG.  Lots of people get them, and lots of people complain they didn't get one.

...?, Glide, Theme From The Bottom

This thread makes me want to get high, listen to Phish and eat Doughnuts.

I'm not sure any of those are very healthy...

They came to play. Great first set.

SCI and Warren Haynes are locked in a desperate death match to see who can (poorly) cover the most songs in history.

Some jam after a day off...

Fug- so many good songs played

save some tunes and donut holes for me!!!!!!!!

just got off work

hope it was a good one

Raspberry Beret?  HYHU>Purple Rain>HYHU>Fuck Your Face?

How about one out of left field to kick it right into rave territory as an opener?

Go All The Way - Raspberries

Jam filled Tuesday, love it,..I'll be there!

>>>>so many good songs played

There will be repeats.  you don't blow tweezer the first night of a 13 night run at MSG.

I would expect Tweezer Reprise on the 13th show.

There actually will not be any repeats, Zang.

Now, there may be some technicality along the way, but I

got it on pretty good authority.

<<<you don't blow tweezer the first night of a 13 night run at MSG.

You do if you bookend night thirteen with the Reprise.

so y'all already know what they'll close the run w/?

predictable huh. seems boring.

I walk routes where I already know the way all the time.

It's never boring if you're in the moment.

Knowing the destination doesn't negate the journey.

What if D O G spelled cat?

Some like jelly, some like jam.

Ain't no bread in the breadbox

perhaps...forgot about the reprise.    The first show got ripped.

I have to say, though I was on the floor both nights dead center 3/4 of the way between stage and soundboard, that this is the loudest and clearest I've ever heard phish play. They are really on top of it this run

>>>Jam filled Tuesday

Seems like this one has potential

did Mike have his lipstick on?

looks like a blast, wish I was there.

"... 3/4 of the way between stage and soundboard, that this is the loudest and clearest ..."

I was in the 200's night one & two.  Agreed, best  I've ever heard Phish sound in that place.

First night,  the lights were just absolutely amazing.  I suppose that was the "Break-in"  show to check every routine and effect.

Second night, not as much crazy stuff w/ lights.  But that might have been the location of our seats,  different angle more toward the side.  If 6 o'clock is front & center and 12 o'clock is center behind stage, we were at 4:30 first night and 3:00 Saturday.  I was in 218 section for a while directly behind stage, and the view and sound were good there.  Physically closer to the stage than our actual sec. 208 & 213 seats, and there was an active Air Conditioner portal.

I think 218 is an ADA section but I didn't see any wheelchairs.

"It's never boring if you're in the moment."

This.

It did seem to me that the lights would be better the more centered your seat was.  I was really impressed with the center rigs above the stage that could rise or fall in three separate sections, as well as the way they had lights placed around the entire arena.

^ I was watching those rigs go up & down from behind the stage (218) and thought that was pretty darn cool.  There were also some video screens w/ closeups of the musicians there.  Actually there were TV's dotted throughout the 200's but I liked that section,  probably the Air Conditioning.

My body stunk but I kept my funk

Songs like "More" really represent the reason why I can't do phish. Do they even listen to what each other are playing anymore?

My friend volunteered to hand out the donuts for each night.

She gets a ticket for the show.

They hand out 1500 donuts every night after your ticket is scanned.

So if you are not one of the first 1500 entering when the doors open, your shit out of donuts!

Your 1300 guess was pretty good, Judit!

^^^what about the "Its Ice" leading into More?

That was excellant

Hey Ro!  Just getting home for my "day off".  The opening weekend was pretty darn good!  I found security to be very relaxed and laid back but I guess that could depend on where you were sitting.  We didn't get to MSG early enough for the donuts or ice cream unfortunately.  The whole place achieved lift off during Roggae and the band looks like they are having a great time on stage.  Fishman's Sunday Pope bit was pretty funny for sure.  I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's show as the flavor is "jam filled" - gee, I wonder what that could mean.  CK5 and his new lighting rig are also quite spectacular and the whole thing moves about throughout the show like a giant kinetic sculpture above the stage.  I hope you are catching the streams along the way.

"The Moment" it's the thing that never ends.

3 Down, 10 to go , Rob

Let us know if ya need water, or oxygen, ...anything

P.s. whats your blood type? We can set ya up for a nice "cleansing" after the tour...

Rob, are you going to all 13?  Brave man :-)

So,....mini honey "jam filled"

Agree on Sets 1 and 2: A couple of looooong songs, maybe with some honey themed quotes in the jam (like Taste of Honey)

Encore: Raspberry Beret

You and i have been on same page throughout thread, zooey, ...

Im hoping when they were planning the no repeats...they came up w some "surprises" , and im not talking dusting off mike and Trey tunes, i mean real additions--- basically additions to help extend said list etc, so, id think shows 4-8 are a perfect place for "extenders"...maybe a TAB appearance, and jam out the herb alpert ive been dreaming of...or even a album dedicated night...

With this bands history...anything is possible...thats all part of the fun...if i had any chance of going tues or wed...id be there....

Dont  ever miss a honey jam filled Tuesday show! Cmon, folks, thats concert touring 101

The sunday morning is classic Phish...trey on drums, the fish entrance, blessing mike s bass, the whole donut tie in....first song exemplifies this bands sense of humor to a T....and a well played, not easy to pull off, tribute cover tune

Heading to the big apple shortly, really looking forward to the these shows.  I want a jam filled donut extravaganza!

was really hoping to make it to sunday night as ill be in town for just the weekend but don't want to go solo... anyone going that night??

Terrapin Tuesday.

I might be Scarlet, w my 23 son Luke, or could be solo as well, but i wont know for sure til thursday...i know a cpl zoners (at least) are going as well...I can get in touch w you via fb either way...ill shoot you a mssg later in week...and, we have mutual friends that could give you my contact info... lets talk later in week, if i end up going, i was hoping that there wil be a zoner pre game....4 more shows before that one!...

I'll be back next weekend for some birthday donuts.

Way to represent, guys! Rob- get there early tonight!!

have fun tonight and report back!

chinarider- NorCal- Senegal- NYC-MSG- woot woot!

Taste of Honey!

Raspberry Beret

3 songs, jam filled...mmm mmmm good

Go to the show

Sounded good through all first set and Crosseyed & Painless -> Jam -> C&P...

Deflated a bit thereafter, but I liked the Allman-esque jams throughout the show.

You just know they will do something absolutely nutty one night:  a Partridge Family set or "Joe's Garage"  theme.

Maybe  "Disraeli Gears"  for Cream Donut  nite.

It was intense and sounded great.  Jam filled for sure.

Hope You Like Jamming Too: Night Four Of Phish Baker’s Dozen Residency – Recap, Setlist & The Skinny

After taking Monday off, Phish‘s Baker’s Dozen 13 show residency resumed at Madison Square Garden. The band selected “jam filled” as the fourth night’s donut flavor and there’s really not a better description for Tuesday’s concert in New York City. A five-song first set and six-song second set packed MSG full of improvisational highlights.

“Sample In A Jar” rang out through The Garden to open the first set and the foursome opened the normally straightforward rocker up, stretching it several minutes beyond its usual length. Keyboardist Page McConnell emerged with microphone in hand to sing “Lawn Boy,” but the typically brief lounge number saw Page break out his keytar for the first-ever jammed-out “Lawn Boy.” The groovy improvisation grew as McConnell settled back to his normal spot on stage and guitarist Trey Anastasio steered the quartet through another abnormally placed, massively expansive, multi-layered and fantastic jam. By the time the band finished the first two songs of the evening – “Sample” and “Lawn Boy” – nearly 40 minutes had passed.

“My Friend, My Friend” materialized out of the incredible assemblage of improvisation, offered a short dose of highly composed playing and led to third straight unexpected jam sequence. The band crossed the one hour mark while performing the fourth song of the set, “Stash.” Next came “Bathtub Gin,” a song that’s led to many memorable jams throughout the group’s career. Drummer Jon Fishman shuttled his band mates into a peppy “Gin” jam that solidified and reached a set-closing peak around bassist Mike Gordon’s stabilizing pattern, Page’s piano embellishments and Trey’s fiery guitar work. And then, after just five songs and 75 minutes it was time for set break.

Set two opened with “Fuego,” a more recent edition to their repertoire that’s also been a springboard for standout jamming. Tuesday’s performance of the title track to their 2014 studio album took on a mellow improvisation, meandering into ambience as each musician added to the amorphous audio landscape. Anastasio introduced a melody that took the jam in a new direction and ultimately brought about the second rendition of “Thread,” the proggy original Phish debuted earlier in the summer in Chicago. Energetic Talking Heads’ favorite “Crosseyed And Painless” came out as the first cover of the show. Often a source of substantial jamming, this “Crosseyed” did not disappoint, as more restrained interplay developed between the quartet over the ensuing several minutes, finally building momentum toward a blissfully melodic Trey-led crescendo.

An angular, dark swell of noise grew from the stage as the “Crosseyed” jam recharged and plotted a new path toward another joyous payoff. Fish picked up the beat and Mike added a danceable groove as the foursome found their way back to final run through the “Crosseyed” refrain. “Makisupa Policeman” brought a reggae vibe to The Garden, featuring Trey teasing Bob Marley’s “Jamming” while delivering a Mike-related “keyword.” Page’s organ signaled the start to Phish’s live debut of “End Of Session,” an ambient deep cut that closes the band’s 1998 studio album The Story Of The Ghost and had been the only song on the record not played in concert. One week after its debut in Dayton, Trey’s “Tuesday” made it into a setlist for the second time and came ahead of the set closing “Cavern.” A romp through “Julius” kicked off the encore that ended with Page retaking the front of the stage to belt out the ending of “Lawn Boy.”

Last night was simply incredible and one for the ages.  One verse into Sample in a Jar and the jam filled night was on.  Page breaking out the keytar and the 30 plus minutes that followed after Lawnboy were spectacular!  Crosseyed and Painless also clocking in at over 30 minutes........just, WOW!  Catch a show or more if you can - Phish is delivering the goods on this run.

Nine more to go - hope my brain and body can handle it!

Rob, I agree totally.

IMG_4096.JPG...

The whole run is for the ages, so far.

Last night was peak phish.

Digging this Lawn Boy jam...

I've always wanted Phish to cover Bob Mould.

This Sugar theme could get us there.

Would love some cheesy Def leppard.

Its called Lawn Man after last night, Ned.

All encores have been sweet.

Cinnamon Girl in the works?

I Want Candy?

Powderfinger.

Yesterday's show was the first phish performance I've listened to in its entirety in ages.

White Lines

Good call, RRG.

Powdered Donut night.

Powder finger!

You can say that again!

Anybody have a link to a SBD of last night's show, pretty please with SUGAR on top?

My buddy called Pour Some Sugar On Me with Fish on vocals tonight.

Just saw SmilyGuy's Def Leppard reference.

How about Cale's Cocaine?

Chalk Dust Torture?

Sugar Shack ? and some Traditional/classic Phish or traditional Music ? Sugaree?

It was so incredibly good last night.  Still trying to get my mind around what this band is doing right now...5th and final show for me tonight and I can't wait !!!!

Here's a great review:   http://phish.net/blog/1501080820/msg4-recap-jamlicious.html

MSG4 RECAP: JAMLICIOUS

Let me let you in on a little bit of my creative process. Generally, when I write a recap such as this, I’ll have the first two introductory paragraphs written in advance; this saves valuable time and allows me to focus on the show details more fully. In anticipation of recapping the July 25, 2017 Phish show, I wrote two paragraphs on Monday detailing the “very good” first weekend of Baker’s Dozen, discussing the doughnut flavor gimmick, and stating how a random Tuesday night in New York City feels like bonus Phish. You know, quaintly setting the stage.

I tossed those two paragraphs out because they’re worthless now; this is being written an hour after the encore. Time will ultimately tell how 7/25/17 rates in the pantheon, but let us not mince any words here. I feel confident stating it is easily the best two set Phish show since 8/12/15 from Philadelphia, easily a Top 10 show of Phish 3.0, and if we’re being as hyperbolic as possible, one of maybe three Phish shows of the past five years that you can credibly discuss in the same breath as 8/31/12 and not be thought of as a hapless fluffer. The doughnut flavor was “JAM FILLED;” it turned out to be little more than an afterthought that the jam in question happened to be raspberry (though to be fair, “Raspberry Beret” was the first song on the p.a. post-show).

So “Sample in a Jar” opens the first set, and it initially had the effect of letting the air out of a balloon; this being the first Baker’s Dozen opener to not be a fun cover song, and it’s, uh, a "Sample" opener. One does suppose that jam comes out of jars. But then “IT” happens, and the audience immediately realizes they’ve been the unwitting victims of a troll job for the ages. Phish sings the “simple smiles and good times seem all wrong….” line, but don’t proceed to the final chorus. Instead, Trey flashes the most shit-eating of shit-eating grins, and the band starts up a jam. The "Sample" has gone Type II, thus immediately rendering it the best version of "Sample" ever by default, and it doesn’t take too long for the audience to realize the REAL meaning of “jam filled” on this evening.

Still, when they follow up the 10 minute "Sample" madness with “Lawn Boy,” the full realization of what’s about to occur hasn’t kicked in yet, aside from the fact that it’s awfully early in the first set to drop a "Lawn Boy." And it seems harmless enough at first; Page breaks out the keytar, but otherwise you’ve got your Mike solo, a Page solo, and the usual dosage of lounge lizard cheese. But then Fishman kicks off a shuffling drum beat the likes of which "Lawn Boy" has never experienced, and the next twenty-seven or so minutes comprises the latest classic example of why our favorite band is so, sooo much better than your favorite band. My written notes are akin to the chicken scratches of a serial killer, but of what I can make out: “Dark, syncopated, chilling thrilling like, UNREAL, Disease-style peaks!!, clav-funk over wah wah scratches, FAST! SO FAST!, this sounds like The Real Me! Biggest white light peak explosion since the 8/19/12 Light!!!!” I also seem to have written “flying like an airplane in the sky,” which, while accurately summing up the Garden mind state, was actually a reference to a Daniel Tiger song that it sounded like Trey was playing around 22 minutes. Fatherhood can be very strange.

Nobody on the bus could’ve predicted “The Garden Lawn Boy;” there’s extremely minimal precedent for such a thing. However, in retrospect, nobody was anticipating a 27-minute prog-rock “Simple” on the second night of the tour either, or a “Wombat” jam, or a 17-minute first set “Moma Dance.” The seemingly out of nowhere jamming of the Chicago "Simple," in particular, now seems like a dry run for MSG Night 4, and nearly every show prior contained an unorthodox 20 minute jam, all comprising a breadcrumb trail of sorts leading up to THIS. The ensuing “My Friend My Friend” was 11 minutes and Pink Floyd-y. The “Bathtub Gin” was 13 minutes of rage, though the “Stash” that preceded it was merely an 11 minute Type I version and therefore lame. At the beginning of set break, the 60-something head in the row directly in front of me raised his arms to the sky and, evoking Hyman Roth’s epic “BUSINESS!” speech to Michael Corleone in Godfather II, screamed “THIS, IS WHAT WE CAME FOR!!!”

So seldom has the heralded quotation “writing about music is like dancing about architecture” seemed so appropriate; do you really need me to tell you how incredible a 33 minute version of “Crosseyed and Painless” is? That the meat of the jam featured a smooth melodic glide in the key of D Major and that it was my first time hearing the song in 71 shows? How about that it evolved into an alien moon landing space, and somehow came back around into a quick lyric reprise, before landing on “Makisupa Policeman?” Trey quoted Bob Marley’s “Jamming” during the "Makisupa," too, because he’s a cheeky bastard.

And then said "Makisupa" got dreamy, pleasant, and somewhat like the work of the 90’s shoegaze bands that Trey Anastasio unquestionably enjoys. Then Phish played the debut of “End of Session.” Yes, THAT "End of Session," the final sketch of The Story of the Ghost that yours truly played as the last song before going to bed nearly every night of his sophomore year in a Rutgers University dorm room. To put a much more positive spin on what’s sadly become a dire indictment of the state of American politics in 2017, This Is Not Normal.

A raging “Tuesday” continued the new day of the week consciousness tradition that started in Dayton, and a “Cavern” second-set closer is always reserved for the cherry on top exclamation point when Trey knows he just completely mind-fucked the audience. Oh yeah, “Thread” was a hundred times tighter than its shambolic debut, and they played a 20 minute “Fuego” too. Meh.

Let’s be real, this is hardly the first time Phish has played a pantheon show to send the fanbase into convulsions; they pulled a similar trick with 8/31/12 and 2013’s “Tahoe Tweezer,” and they’ve still laid many an egg since then. It’s unfair to expect this level of improvisation every night going forward because, simply stated, the band would collapse. But there’s NINE of these Baker’s Dozen gigs left; is it possible that the peak has yet to arrive? What in the good name of the mighty Icculus is left to do? I have no idea, but suffice it to say, we are in extremely good hands. July 25, 2017 is just the most recent example of when this rather unusual band is ‘on,’ and witnessing them live is a privilege unlike any other. You are on notice.

The Line is an obvious choice.

Waiting all night?

Absolute fucking torture to be missing any of these shows-

sounds incredible

and it was just a Tuesday night show...

I believe every opener has started with the letter 'S'

Sugar Shack opener.

Man, people are starting to come out of the woodwork for this.

I know so many people that previously had no plans or were too busy or even above this run to make it who are now rearranging heaven and earth to get a piece of this hall of fame run.

Four more for me (I've added a few, ha), but it hurts to miss any of it, honestly.

Interesting, Ned, didn't notice the S thing.

Sugaree?

2 demerits, HL73.

Just pointing out how during multi weekend runs the Bridge and Tunnel crowd

sUrGeS on the weekends and can cause stress in the artistic nature of the audience/band

vibe.... Thus the local NYC audience provides an opening for bands to produce more experimental work which

pushes the boundaries of their talent during the week.

For the Deadicated Phishes it's all Icing on the doughnut.

i don't get the pshish.

Yes, and every encore has had something sweet.

Stick with Tool, turtle.

Who are the Bridge and Tunnel crowd?

Folks that come over bridges and through tunnels

to get into NYC.

Dang, didn't see the powdered sugar, i fell for the smokestack's churro post

^Who are the bridge and tunnel crowd^

Folks who live outside Manhattan.

My friend from here is flying to Italy tomorrow

then flies home through his folks in Dunbo, Brooklyn

meeting us for last 3 shows

thats a Phish fan for ya... if I wasn't working every day up to this, I'd get on a plane now!!!

>Stick with Tool, turtle.<

i'm o.k. with that.

I have friends going to the Slayer show at the Theatre tonight. Made me wonder if it was scheduled on one of Phish's nights off on purpose.

So the weekends tend to get the big bold shows.

The Eb and Flow of city life is something I lay on

you all here as another layer to potentially understand

the subtleties of this run.  Trey is very much in tune with

Manhattan.

Then again it may make no difference at all....

What the fuck are you talking about?

American Beauty, Bakers Dozen headquarters.  Preshow.

^^did you sell your extra?!

Slacker, it's college-level stuff. Sorry, bro.

Skipper, do you take a bridge or tunnel to the city?

Great!

Looks like American Beauty having an after party tonight

Thanks, Fark!!!

Although a huge event for many,  Phish MSG is barely a blip on the radar for greater Manhattan.  We were over in Bryant Park Saturday morning and there were throngs of people all crowded around / lined up wearing soccer jerseys.  Majority of them were Spanish speakers,  and they were attending a Barcelona soccer team rally.  Huge crowd, and none of them had any idea Phish was in town.

Likewise 99.7 % of Phish - heads had no idea there was a Barcelona rally in town.

Sunday morning both sides of 7th avenue had vendors setting up their food ++ booths for many blocks.  I guess there was some sort of street fair about to happen,  not Phish - related.  But I'll probably never know,  as I had to catch an early train.  Would have loved to hang out and eat a bunch.  What event closed down 7th Avenue on Sunday?  I don't think it was Barcelona related.

Trailhead and partner in donut shenanigans found themselves in the 100's. What a tasty treat it is becoming!

Stu, did you take a bridge or a tunnel to get home?

Mr. Slacker,

I took the train both ways.  It is the "Northeast Corridor"  line and runs on former "Pennsylvania Railroad"  tracks.  This is why the East has several 'Penn Stations'.

One nice thing about the train is that you can drink a Beer or Cocktail or even a pitcher of Margaritas.  It's all perfectly legal on any former Pennsylvania Railroad track.  And MSG is right there when you get off the train.  How convenient !

Rock on, Stu.

Slacker, have you ever heard a better first set from Phish than last night?

Can powdered top jam-filled? Stay tuned...

Buckle up...

I saw the first set at Cow Palace in '96. I remember Frankenstein.

I saw the first set at Shorline in '97. Can't remember any songs.

I didn't listen to last night yet.

I was chatting with a guy at work about these shows and said I wasn't that into Phish, I've only seen them a couple dozen times at most. He looked at me a LONG time before he said: how many times have you seen bands that you actually like? I didn't even know what to say. lol

Anyway: have a great time if you're there and keep the donut pics and setlists coming. Cheers!

I would never have guessed White Winter Hymnal.

Set 2 ---more powder, less sugar

Decent Tube to end set 1

Nothing too inspirational in that first set,  to my ear.  I actually left the speakers for a while to feed Hüsky his evening meal.  "Tube" had some good jams.

Anyway,  when they speak of "Bridge & Tunnel" folk it is because Manhattan is an island, much of it composed of old trash and rubble.  So you can go under or over the river(s) or take a Ferry.  Besides the Amtrak,  NJTransit and LIRR rail lines,  there is also the PATH train(s) which go under the river like those old James Bond Aston-Martins.  Port Authority Trans Hudson.

Even if you enjoy driving in densely populated areas with heavy traffic,  it's more economical to take the train in general.  Fuel, tolls, and parking add up to more than my train fare.  If you had 3-4 people dividing the fees,  you'd do better driving.  Train fare is about 30 bucks; train station parking about 10 bucks a day.  Plus you can relax on the train,  read the paper, have a Cocktail.

Parking in Manhattan can cost a small fortune.

This second set is starting out pretty sick. Better than what I heard last night, which I thought was good but made me want 90's phish, or 90's Trey to be more specific. Listening to last night I could understand why some deadheads who cut their teeth in the 70's couldn't listen to Jerry in the 80's. It just isn't the same when they lose a step. IMO of course, and I am a touch head who loves 80's Jerry.

Here's my short take on tonight's show:

Another top notch Phish show tonight at the Garden. The donut theme was Traditional Powder Covered and the band did not disappoint......They were thinking of snow and cover tunes, opening with a first time a capella cover of White Winter Hymnal by Fleet Foxes. A standout cover of 1999 included a spectacular jam and a nod to Zeppelin was given with No Quarter. My brain blaster moment was the Phish debut cover of Neil Young's Powderfinger for the encore. Great versions of Phish tunes Cars, Trucks, and Buses, Pebbles and Marbles, Tube, and Carini were highlights, and plenty of quality extended jamming made for a great night! Day off tomorrow and then back Friday - Sunday......The Baker's Dozen continues!

Mr.  Spac84 --

I think it's quite inspirational that you;re attending all or most of these Donuts.  What is your technique in this arduous distance run?  Do you stay in Midtown,  do a VRBO,  or go back and forth to Upstate NY?

Couple nights at a "Courtyard" room had me wishing for more luxurious amenities.  No mini-fridge,  no micro.  If I were going multiple nites  I'd want an  RV,  but where the heck do you park one in midtown ??

Anyway,  enjoy the rest of your Donuts.

Hey Disco Stu - I booked my rooms at a couple of different places throughout the run to keep the lodging costs reasonable.  For the first weekend, I split the cost of the Roosevelt Hotel on 45th and Madison.  I'll be doing that again for next week's Tue/Wed shows.  Otherwise, for solo attendance, I found a cheap Knights Inn in NJ that is about a 20 mile ride each way and commute through the Lincoln Tunnel each night.  The Roosevelt is pretty nice and has all the creature comforts.  The Knights Inn is not so nice but the room has a fridge and microwave, the water pressure is good, the neighborhood is fine, and even with the cost of the tunnel and parking each night, is much cheaper than staying in the city.  On the off days I head home (3 1/2 hr drive) to check on my cats.

Donut pic from Jam filled Tuesday.

I'm not a big Phish fan, but I figured I had to turn up for one show.

Looks like I picked the right night.

I started this because I just wanted to say  "it's all icing on the doughnut"

but your right Fark there is something more going on.  So hold onto your wax paper

cause this weekend is gonna be double stuffed.

WWWWEEEEEE!!!!! I'm in for Sunday!!! Thanks awesome zoner ;-)

<<<<there is something more going on

I have a feeling "Never miss the last show of a Baker's Dozen run" will become a thing shortly.

Surely there's an algorithm that can decode exactly what's going on.

No harpua or Colonel Forbin....or have they played much of game henge at all??

ACDC Bag has been played, Zang.

"Never miss the last show of a Baker's Dozen run"

Cause It's gonna be Glazed!

Shows have been great! Was at the first 4 and have tix for the last 3. Thinking about going down again tomorrow. Maybe catch 9 out of 13.

What's tonight's flayva?

^^^I don't think it has been announced yet.

First set reminded me why a lot of people don't like Phish; lots of silliness.  Well played but nothing that went deep.  Second set went deep fast and stayed there.  Great stuff.

>>>Well played but nothing that went deep.

The Divided Sky sure did.

6 down. 7 to go.

True, but most of the set was fluff.

Yeah jambone

On my way

See u there freaks

Yes, RRG, None yet...but, def next wknd...my son and going to see his favorite band for his birthday weekend...only our second phish show together....may go tmrw...and very possibly one midweek ...

Unfortunatly, the run started a week after a trip to Dallas, so finances are tight...so a cpl will be last minute decisions...

You?

I was  just daydreaming about how,  if I were to attend all of these Donuts,  would it get a bit boring after 4-5 shows ?

The two nights I attended (first two)  were fun,  and I stayed near Bryant Park and the NYC Library.  Of course I went to both of those places.  Right in the back yard, and admission is Free.  For the record,  none of the half-dozen pay-phones at the Library have dial tone.  Are there any more working pay-phones ??

Saturday morning / early afternoon I took a Subway ride up to 57th Street and walked back to the hotel.  The underground was hot & muggy more so than pavement. But there are many Kewl attractions in the area.  Strolled around Carnegie Hall,  went by MOMA,  ducked in to St. Patrick's Cathedral.  21 Club still exists.

I did not go there for Lunch.  Anyway,  if someone handed me a Thousand-dollar bill and  Donut-lammie,  I would go to the Crazy Museums in the Midtown area all day long,  maybe tour Carnegie Hall,  Rockefeller Center and catch  a Radio City matinee.  So many interesting things to see there in NYC if you happen to be there anyway.

Not sure Jambone,

Let me know which night you're going to,

Maybe we could meet up !!

Will do...tmrw is actually lookin up...but, wont say yes, til its yes...

Ill will keep ya posted...love to meet up..(and next wknd has makin of good size zoner turn out)...also, do know of a cpl already on road for tmrw...im sure they be checkin in soon!

Not alot of fluff in that set....

12 songs 1hr 20min

Sounds very professional and smooth.  Not getting the Cinnamon theme quite,  someone explain.

Definitely one of the Very Best set # 1  so far.

Check you email Zonahs! LoL :)

I am getting a circle loop and static pix on this link.

Is there something I am missing?

But thanks Fark!

Thanks fark!

Thank you mr. Jambone

Big Mountain Jam theme this set!

Love the Cinnamon Girl!

They did have time for one more. WTF?

(ONLY 13 shows)

Rocker!

Liked this one a lot.  Very strong flow,  with lack of piffle.  I guess they are all warmed up already.  Would probably go another night,  if someone threw me a face value ticket.  Light show must be Wicked Kool by now.

This show was night seven of Phish's Baker's Dozen run at Madison Square Garden and consisted of a cinnamon donut theme. Donuts with a cinnamon glaze were given to fans arriving at the venue. I Am the Walrus included The Birds and Your Pet Cat quotes. Dirt and Mountain Jam were teased in Harry Hood. Cinnamon Girl was last performed on July 31, 1997 (629 shows).

"Llama"

(Many years after the overthrow of Wilson, a rebel soldier crouching
high on a hilltop above the war torn forests of Gamehendge spots a
group of loyalists approaching from their lakeside encampment below.

His trusty llama stands beside him, loaded down with a canvas pack
that holds two large bazooka type guns to the animal's sides. Near the
man sits a cache of blastoplast, each capable of destroying the entire
hillside in an instant...)

Sunrise over the turquoise mountains
Messenger birds in sight
They came up through the valley
Both sides at a time
Through the cold steady rain
Raid!
I bend down
Poke a double decker on a llama
Taboot
Llama, Taboot Taboot
Trigger a blastoplast, ramshackle laker recedes
I start to run
It was the loudest thing I'd ever heard
And I knew my time had come
To enter the delta

Leave it on press [2x]
Depress, Depress
Llama, Taboot Taboot
Leave it on press
Depress, Depress
Llama, Taboot Taboot

Llama, Taboot Taboot
Llama, Taboot Taboot
Taboot Taboot
Taboot Taboot

"Wilson"

Oh out near Stonehenge, I lived alone
Oh out near Gamehendge, I chafed a bone
Wilson, King of Prussia, I lay this hate on you
Wilson, Duke of Lizards
I beg it all trune for you

Talk my duke a mountain, Helping Friendly Book
Inasfar as fiefdom, I think you bad crook
Wilson, King of Prussia, I lay this hate on you
Wilson, Duke of Lizards
I beg it all trune for you

I talked to my son Roger, Rutherford the same
[or "I talked to Mike Christian, Rog and Pete the same"]
When we had that meeting, over down near Game(henge)
Wilson, King of Prussia, I lay this hate on you
Wilson, Duke of Lizards
I beg it all trune for you

You got me back thinkin' that you're the worst one
I must inquire, Wilson
Can you still have fun?
Wilson
Can you still have fun?
Wilson
Can you still have fun?
Wilson

Meanwhile, in the main square in Prussia, the state of the revolution was taking another turn for the worst. A crowd of townspeople had gathered to witness the hanging of Wilson's accountant, Mr. Palmer. It seemed that Palmer had been a revolutionary himself and had been extorting Wilson's money to fund the revolution. Palmer stood on the scaffold with Wilson and the AC/DC Bag, an electrified robot-hangman with a black bag over his head. Wilson seemed pleased as he began to speak.

Ya Mar

Remember all the days
in the pond
Catchin' wild trout
till the break of dawn
Now that you've become a man
you're looking very mean
Got a nice shiny sports car
you keep it very clean

Don't ask him what it was
tell him what it is
Don't ask him what it was
tell him what it is

Sing the song now:
ya mar, ya mar, ya mar, ya mar,
ya mar, ya mar, ya mar,
I got an oh kee pah
ya mar, ya mar, ya mar, ya mar,
ya mar, ya mar, ya mar,
I got an oh kee pah

She used to be a vampire child
walkin' in the yard
Now that she's become a woman
lookin' very proud
You used to wear a piece of cloth
tied around your head
Now she looks so good
wanna love you dead

Don't ask him what it was
tell him what it is
Don't ask him what it was
tell him what it is

Sing the song now:
ya mar, ya mar, ya mar, ya mar,
ya mar, ya mar, ya mar,
I got an oh kee pah
ya mar, ya mar, ya mar, ya mar,
ya mar, ya mar, ya mar,
I got an oh kee pah

Tela

Phish

The sky is burning in this lonely land
And I kneel by the river
And I feel the sand and the wind
The wind from beyond the mountain
The wind from beyond the mountain

And she comes to me in this lonely land
And looks down from the multi-beast
On which she rides like the wind
The wind from beyond the mountain
The wind from beyond the mountain

Tela was born in a vulgar crooked hut
In the shadow of Wilson's castle
Venomous scorn from a life of bitter toil
In the shadow of Wilson's castle

Glory esteem fueled by her hatred it grew
Swelling to the point where it would
Burst at the seems
There was nothing she could do

Tela Tela jewel of Wilson's foul domain
Tela Tela jewel of Wilson's foul domain
A lullaby the breezes whisper

And I look into her eyes
And my frozen heart begins to thaw
And burns, 'til layer after layer
Melts away into a pool
A sky blue mirror of her eyes

And my soul is made of marble
But in her gaze I crumble into dust
And drift away on the wind
The wind from beyond the mountain
The wind from beyond the mountain

Tela grew strong from her struggle
To endure in the shadow of Wilson's castle
Time touched her wounds
And shelter proved the cure
In the shadow of Wilson's castle

Each passing day seemed to feed
The brazen serpent locked inside
And liberate the spirit
She'd concealed for so long
There was no place left to hide

Tela Tela jewel of Wilson's foul domain
Tela Tela jewel of Wilson's foul domain
A lullaby the breezes whisper

I have found it to be low ley each night.  Place your personal items in a little dish, walk through the detector gate, retrieve all personal items, and on your way inside.  They use a wand if you set off the detector.  They do look through bags.  Pretty easy going in my opinion.

The Walrus was off the hook crazy.

Right on... thanks!

I thought  "Jimmy holds the Tannis Root....   Little Jimmy's off to camp"

But they did that one already.  So maybe various Jimmy / Jimi covers ? Could be Jimmy Osmond, or Jim Jones.

As 73 points out,  Harpua has the Jimi thing happening. They haven't played that one yet?

As long as they don't actually play Jimi Thing.

Well there's Jimmy Page, Jimmy Reed, Jim Croce, Jim Morrison,  bunch of 'em.  Does James Taylor count ?

Jimmy Cracked Corn - acapella! Yeah, that's what they will be playing tonight!

Hey Jambone, where are your seats tonight?

Somewhere over the rainbow.

I'm in 106.  Let's try for something next Sunday - Ro had mentioned the booze cruise w/ TalkingPinkFish as a possibility.  I'll be doing the final weekend with Scottocs and hopefully staying close to the Garden.  Phish is really slaying it on this run.  It's that unique NYC energy that used to give our guys that extra boost during their city visits too!

Phunny how Jambone picks Jimmy nite for his MSG Donut debut.
As most Zoners know,  his actual Name is Jaimoe Jamal Jameson III (the Third).

Looking at tonite's donut photo reminds me of some of my internships while going for my M.IFT degree (Ma. Industrial Food Technology).  Many people think 'Jimmies' are manufactured by extrusion or pressure molding.

Actually,  the most economical way is Mice.  Cages of the little rodents are fed an exclusive diet of colored sugar paste (with a dash of hydrogenated oil) and the droppings are collected in conveyor belts below their habitat, flash cooled and packaged.

Hahaha - I [donut] NY

Only old timers would recognize the orange circle logo in the upper right as a takeoff on the old NYC Transit subway tokens.

I remember this Drama:  CT Turnpike tokens worked in the NYCT turnstiles but cost half the price, that caused a HUGE interstate PISSING MATCH - CT said "we're not changing our tokens - you change your machines", NYC said the opposite, standoff went on for years, right up until CT eliminated tolls in the mid '80's.

I went Sat, & am going again Wed, missed last Wed due to tick or spider bite getting infected & me getting fever & sleeping 15 hr's a day (either Lyme disease or I'm gonna start spinning webs from my palms, we'll see . . . I'm on antibiotics now . . . ).

For me, the jamming is great, the songs not so much.  But it can't be taken seriously, I equate it to the Simpsons & South Park, totally silly stuff, during that Meatstick dance I thought I was @ a Jimmy Buffet show lol . .  .

I talked with a guy who worked for the scrapyard that won the bid to remove and recycle the old turnstiles in NYC subways when they switched to cards. They said they made 15,000 Bucks in US coins that were attempted fares in the machines.

Sick poster. Love it.

Hey now!

just woke up after a nap and safe arrival on a red eye into jfk

ready for a donut and ready to rumble!

Welcome to our fair city. I'll be on a train soon headed back to the Garden. Again.

Have a great rumble, Ro

I must be an old timer, I remember the tokens and the big sewer rats.

That poster looks like  early Tape Cat stuff, but his are better

IMG_0231.JPG

Never miss a merchandizing opportunity...

Bunch of us headed in from Brooklyn

lets meet up at Gingerman or American Beauty?

Just texted with voodoo and cuz

we are meeting at American Beauty

come say hi!

we are on floor tonight

I've got a few of those old NYC subway tokens somewhere, even GardenStateParkway tokens.
Colombia and possibly other South American nations  used to mint coins that were the same size and shape as US Quarters but worth like 1/4 cent.  It was basically a 'Zoner Salute'  to USA.  They would work in US vending machines.

The poster is Iconic due to the Legendary NYC Sewer Alligator with Rat perched upon.

The story (over the last 50-60 years) is that kids would mail-order pet alligators,  and when they got too big for the tank,  Mom would flush 'Gator down the toilette.
Of course they survived and even Bred,  so there are Huuuuge Alligators living in NYC sewers.

That theme has even made it into Robert Anton Wilson's stuff with a (fictional ??) Alligator Control division.

wow people really like this band.

American Beauty is a cool place, $9 beer gets you a free pizza lol.

JK was playing an after Phish show there last week.

So, Phish is poisoning their fans now?

PSA ALLERGY ALERT: According to Federal Donuts, tomorrow night's donut will feature a "nut powder" of some sort. Those of you with airborn anaphylaxis like me, be prepared!

I just spoke with the Office of Disabled Services at MSG. While they offer no accommodation for nut allergies, they advised the following:
1. Get there late, at about 7:30-7:45. By that point all people eating donuts should be done. (Of course, if your allergies are as bad as mine, you're also concerned about people having touched the nut powder and subsequently contaminated everything. You're probably also concerned about the nut powder lingering in the air. I'm bringing a surgical mask, gloves, and maybe I'll even take a preemptive Benadryl.)

2. Use the Disabled Services entrance on 33rd and 8th. They do not distribute donuts from there.

maybe its just nutmeg

PHISH, TUESDAY 08/01/2017

MADISON SQUARE GARDEN New York , NY

SET 1: O Canada[1], Crowd Control, Sugar Shack, When the Circus Comes, Daniel Saw the Stone, Army of One,The Wedge, Guelah Papyrus, Maple Leaf Rag[1] > Guelah Papyrus, McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters[2] >Limb By Limb > Walk Away

SET 2: Golden AgeLeaves, Swept Away > Steep > 46 Days > Piper, Possum

ENCORE: Rock 'n' Roll Suicide

[1] Phish debut; instrumental.
[2] Unfinished.

This show was night nine of Phish's Baker's Dozen run at Madison Square Garden and had a maple donut theme. Donuts with a maple cinnamon glaze were given to fans arriving at the venue. The show featured the Phish debut of O Canada performed as an instrumental; the Canadian flag in the venue was illuminated at the conclusion of the song. This show also feature the Phish debut of Maple Leaf Rag, performed as a solo instrumental by Page on piano. Swept Away and Steep were last played on July 8, 2012 (192 shows). This show was webcast via Live Phish.

Nice Bowie choice Rock n Roll Suicide

The end of piper went back into 46 days, just a little. Still going strong with no repeats,

Maple glaze with cinnamon icing drizzle was the donut of the day.

Or was it the Trump flavor from the night before?no

Pretty cryptical jerry tribute with the 'rock n roll suicide'

but it is the phish after all, what the fuck do you want.

Never miss a wednesday after a tuesday maple donut w drizzle show

Just contacted one of my old buddies. Looked him up on google and boom I was able to text him...& he's at Phish in NYC of course! Yea...he still loves Phish!

It would be funny if they gave out stale donuts and played a set of Easy Listening tunes.

I had a hard time ingesting the first set.

The Wedge rescued an otherwise lackluster set,

which then again needed Walk Away to save the rest of the set.

2nd set smoked

Down in a Hole

Also, "In a Hole" not played since 1989.

Any chance they cover some Courtney Love?

Whole Lotta Love?

" dust in the wind" acappella?

God, i hope not....

Beatles...im fixing a hole...day in the life

This "Holes" sets a precedent for the Dunkin' Munchkins to do a Whole  'Wizard Of Oz'  Munchkin Broadway routine ala 'Terrence & Philip'.

It shall be Epic.  Now I wish that I hadn't committed to breeding the Geese.

Whole Lotta Love...

This is a good choice. Any "nut allergy" types will have been weeded out between last night and tonight, only leaving the strongest standing for the last three shows.

Neil Diamond..Holly Holy.

The Nut Allergy syndrome seems funny to 'old people'  but actually affects some percentage of the 'younger generation'.

While no individual I've ever met born prior to 1973 claimed to be allergic to Nuts,  it happens to late-70's -> latter day people.

Best theory or explanation I've heard is some Krap in the vaccines.  Not the actual Nuts but   'afflotoxins'  found in Fungi or Bacteria associated are supposedly the problem.  Somebody research all that and get back.

My Assistant Brewer's Wife said that she was allergic to Peanuts and also Red Wine.  That was twenty years ago,  and she was probably born after 1975.  First  individual I ever met who claimed Nut allergy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_xbF_oiy-k

Was hoping for a real nut donut like we had when I was a kid, yes, we had donuts w/walnuts, pecans, almonds, & even cashews.  Also apple crisp actually had walnuts in it.  It's not really apple crisp w/o walnuts.  Peanut butter  is a cop out - all the nut allergy problems,. none of the nutty goodness of real nuts.  My theory about all these allergies is that no one is breast fed anymore.  I got to suck on a teet as a lil one & I'm not allergic to anything.  Thanks Mom!  Well except for cigarette smoke.  Lots of Phisheads smoke cig's, they[re always shocked when I don't have a lighter for them.  Also that synthetic pot crap.  Ecch!!!!

I like the neil diamond call...

Still think we hearin fixin a hole AND day in the life...

pretty serious jamming

Helllloooo Mr. Jambone --

I did listen to the "Day In The Life"  from tonite's  MSG  Donut.  Twenty years back I was at the Brussels,  Belgium show where the Phish did a Sweet version.

That was actually a Show with many,  Funny,  Crazy stories attached.  One of these  days,  we shall have a Soda,  and I'll  bore you with the tale.

Suffice it to say,  it would Burn down all Your Ears devil

http://phish.net/setlists/city/Brussels/Belgium

It was at a Botanical Garden's  small Venue.  My Pals and I attended that one and some others in London,  Amsterdam,  and so forth.

Hello DS, maybe ill holler at you and H.I.M. tmrw, and you can procede to burn my aural cavities....also, i wanna see if you d made any headway painting the head....

And, who knows...maybe theyll finish Scent of a Mule for you

Loved Oh, Holy Night.

Perfect.

Heck,

I'm waiting for the Rain to quit Before painting the OutHouse..

Unlikely that I will see more MSG Phish shows Live.  Fifty bucks just to get there and back.  Not a Princely sum for those with Steady Custodial or Wall St.  jobs,  but a couple Weeks of Turkey cutlets for the Hound.

Also,  the Weekend Phish Donuts command a Steep price.  80-90 face Tixx will go for 300 ++ at least.

Other show notes...

Vacuum solo during "i Didnt Know"

First 20+ minute version of Mike s Song since 1997

OMFUG got home a lil while ago - NOBODY is a SHOCKED as me @ how much I ENJOYED that show!!!!  Just chock full of insane psychedelia.  Weakest part was the 2 or so songs near the end of the 1st set before Run Like the Antelope - 1st one bluegrass-ey, I went for a piss break & just beat a huge pissbreak rush so got the vibe this was a pissbreak song ala LL Rain - then next song was very poppy cheezy almost John Mayer Ish.  But yeah minor complaints as I actually enjoyed pretty much the rest of the songs, which is unheard of for me, so something happened tonite, not sure what, maybe that fog machine -> Oh Holy Nite, just like the Doobie Bros in '75, where was the flaming gong?  Oh man it's gonna be a loooonnggggg time before I sleep again.  Some "normal folks" on the train went to some show elsewhere, J Cole, all decked out in their For Your Eyez Only tour t-shirts, backwards baseball caps, & hoodies.  Dunno, the chicks were pretty hot, gonna maybe go rub one out about them now as I try to pass out - "where're all the white women at?" lol . . ..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-_t4aQZNuY

I agree w/FZappa20 - apparently the Sucky songs were Ginseng & All Night . . .

"Too Many Bingers" lmfao . . . .

"Guyute" - I was picturing as sung by Ned Flanders going "Diddley Diddley Doodley Diddley Doodly Doo Dum Dun Diddley Dooodley Dooo/etc etc etc & having the time of my life just completely laughing my fuckin' ass off as @ that point in the Festivities the Party Favors were kicking in quite strongly & seriouslee "ramping up" things.

There was a definite Saint of Circumstance-esque jam in the 2nd set too, maybe before Sneakin' Sally thru the Alley, just so glad Bobby wasn't there to go back to the "Im Gonna Go Fer It Fer Sure" part . . .

I'm in the WSMFP group on FB, funny to see all these hardcore Panic heads confessing that they actually Enjoyed Phish shoes too - as someone consoled them "It's OK to Like Both Bands" lmao . . .

& as I told one Disappointed fellow traveler on the train on the way in, "Phish, sure, OK, but, Um, No;  String Cheese Incident is simply 'A Bridge Too Far' for me . . . .

^

This is why I don't go to Phish shows.

Looking for an extra Sat. Decided to go this morning last second. email's in profile, hit me up please!

>>>>>While no individual I've ever met born prior to 1973 claimed to be allergic to Nuts,  it happens to late-70's -> latter day people.

My wife is allergic to all tree nuts and peanuts, She was born in 1955.

I'm allergic to walnuts, filberts, pecans, and peanuts, but not cashews and macadamias. I was born in 1951.

And neither of us like the Phishies.

But rock on, Phishheads - sounds like some fun was had by most.

Rest day. Three stages to go and they'll all feel like mountaintop finishes.

Im wondering if these Allman Brothers teases we keep hearing are going to amount to anything either.

Good times Phishing again last night !!

Two shows, and I'm tapping out...

Carry on folks, and ROCK THE HOUSE !!!

donut1.jpg

Great photograph up there. I see the moon in the smoke.

I think that some of the people who have been following this thread would be smart to go to the Sonos store at 101 Greene St on Saturday for Danny Clinch's Clinch Crates Vol. 2 from 10 am to 5 pm. Danny has dug deep into his Phish archives and there will be things that few have seen before. It is also wise to check out Danny's band, The Tangiers Blues Band at 55 Bar at 55 Christopher St. on Friday night post show. (hint, hint)

Great photos Ro!  I'm home today cooling my jets one last time before the big 3 show finale.  Heading down to the city with Scott tomorrow and staying pretty close to MSG - 35th street if not mistaken.  Hope to catch up with you over the weekend.  You too Jambone!

My hero^...lol....ill confirm sunday tmrw, Rob. Hope to make it, obviously, but know for sure tmrw...and then gotta figure out if we doing that cruise...

Over/Under Jambone is a no show?

I watched/listened to that, RRG, and realized that while it was pleasing, it didn't take me anywhere. They just don't get me, or I don't get them.

I loved watching the people seated (standing) behind the stage, swaying in the stage lights, looking like undersea plants. That was great.

>309, take your gambling addiction to TheDickzon

Yeah 309

Judit, if you have time, try listening to 7/26 from the beginning.

http://www.archive.org/serve/ph2017-07-26MadisonSquareGardenNYC/ph2017-0...

Thanks, Slacker.

Whole lotta Love...

I'm just listening to it now for the first time.

I haven't heard the whole run but I think the way all shows start out a little more uptempo in set 1 and gradually work their way into the 2nd set jam>ballad>jam portion adds to the context.

They just don't get me, or I don't get them.

Same here.

I was one of those undersea plants Lady J.

It's a world filled with many flavors of licorice. <3

I love that you are one of the undersea plants, RRG.

I'm glad I started listening to 7/26/17, I'm liking it more than many others of their shows that I've tried. We'll see how long I last.

I kind of wish this news hadn't made it to every dentist's office waiting room.

http://www.newsweek.com/nitrous-phish-fans-hippie-crack-madison-square-g...

When the sound of pressurized air hissed across Manhattan’s 31st Street on Saturday night, tie-dyed and red-eyed Phish fans rushed forward like a flock of hungry pigeons eager for a discarded hot dog bun. A team of hustlers bent over a 2-foot-tall scratched tank of nitrous oxide across the street from Madison Square Garden and filled colorful balloons they sold for prices ranging from $10 for one to five for $20.

So as far as the lemon is concerned, more Led Zeppelin, or Zappa WPLJ?

Poppy? Follow the yellow brick road..

^^^ how was your Tuesday show?

sorry I didn't see you, Trailhead!

I enjoyed 8/1 second set a lot and Wednesday night in its entirety:)

Tuesday was great. Nice pictures you got there.  Popped into American Beauty,  but not into the room where half step was playing. They are my favorite local dead act.

You going tonight? I'll be on the train in a few hours..

Led Zeppelin's "The Lemon Song" seems like a no-brainer.

Maybe an acapella "Sweet Georgia Brown" as a tip of the hat to the Harlem Globetrotters' Meadowlark Lemon?

Like that Welker poster. Crumb curves and styling.

Monkey Man!

Having poppie seeds stucky in your teeth while tripping balls is pretty annoying.  Just thought I'd throw that out to see if it sticks in anyones head tonight.

>And zep, for sure

Phish trying to pull off the lemon song would not be good.  Maybe Zappa?

double post

Agreed, jonas, plus, i like dave s "green tambourine" suggestion much better song for them

I just read that my piss break song on Wed was Norman Blake's Ginseng, I remember that song from seeing Norman (& Nancy) Blake all the time back when I lived & went to college in W VA in the early '80's.  I certainly didn't recognize it on Wed.  Will hafta listen to that whole Shoe one of these days.  Have fun this weekend folks!

A cover of Blind Lemon Jefferson's  "See That My Grave Is Swept Clean" would be kewl.

So, friend that hired my son and i to cater (w him) , phish, and many others shows over past few years, just called...wanted to know if it was luke s bday today or tmrw..(prob saw a mention on fb with his kids and mine etc)... i told him, it was tmrw...then he asked if we were free tonite or tmrw pm.s....i said yessir...he said...call ya right back....

Hmmmmmmm.....

Don't forget the poppy part.

They will play their own version of Beyonces "Lemonade" in its entirety tonight.  ;-)

Turns out...we off to. Watch webcast at a small theatre in Ct tonite...private party , for some phish phish head (im guessing)...but, complete use of all sound system etc...sounds better than the couch for the nite!

Have fun, all...be safe if ya there....or wherever you are

thanks for the pics

Set 2 opener

Dem bones (dem boney bones...;)   )

Wow, total trippy second set...fluffhead close set

Frankenstein encore

Full set list later if no one else on it

Second set was badass, wish I was there, and I haven't said those things about phish in nearly 2 decades.

It was happening tonight

So...they opened 2 with the acapella dem bones ...

Then it got weird

Set 2

Fluffhead

E:

frankenstein

Now, from beginning of Radiohead to very last note of Fluffhead....they kept going back into the Radiohead tune...im not familiar w that song...so, all i know is Trey and Paige were both on keys, with Trey on what looked to be an ipad or something that sized and he was "echoing" (or sound man was, in which case, i have no clue what trey was doing..lol) Fish s lyrics....the lemon verse etc...and then during whats the use (very trippy) and scents and sounds...he continued to echo  effect the lyrics sung earlier by Fish...prince caspian was pretty straight., but similar to one just played in chicago, w a nice jam etc...Fluffhead is teased...hinted at...then starts....place, already going nuts, explodes...and includes a nice spacey part and jammed out a lil....then near very end...whee trey is playin guitar jedi...he walks behind keys again, and we hear yet more of radiohead song....so, i mention this for one reason only....the above written set list doesnt do this set in particular any justice...it must be heard....

And frankenstein...was just icing on donut...

P.s. herbal dave with the great call of show opener

So...upon furthur review of aforementioned openin tune...

Set 1

See That My Grave Was Kept Clean...(blind lemon jefferson from 1927)...is what i first read, when i looked up song after they opened with it...now, after watching fzappa 20 review on you tube...and he only credits Radiohead (again) w that tune...mentionin two three x that radiohead was covered twice....i looked it up again, and see the followin covers..(prob not even 100th of a percent)

And of course. From the Matrix in 66...the grateful frkn dead...

>>>Radiohead sucks

I thought covering 'everything in it's right place' was one of the boldest, hippest things they've ever done.

Would u of rather they'd covered Zeppelin?

Furious, youre a musician...what was Trey "playin" tinkering with...during that song? I have no clue if i explained it correctly ^^^^

If you only heard audio...you tube already has video

Go fuck yourself, hambone. Radiohead sucks.

Most of the covers in this run seem like tchotchkes.

No Quarter is a good tune.

Will they cover lost in a supermarket on Sunday?

>I have no clue

Mr.  Slacker--

Calm down already.  Mr.  Jambone is not attacking you.

The  Bakers' Dozen seems to me like a Phish retirement Party.

They have made enough Ca$$h over the years to cover the kids'  motorboats and College  tuition.

Maybe they are bored of touring Cleveland,  Akron,  and Framingham.  Whatever special runs they do will make money and pay grandchildren's dog-sitting fees.

Six nights at  "Great Wall Of China Imperial Freedom Venue".

Three nights at Panama Canal.

>>Furious, youre a musician...what was Trey "playin" tinkering with...during that song? I have no clue if i explained it correctly ^

Certainly not my wheelhouse of musical device expertise but It appears to b some type of electronic, synthy, khaosolator sampling contraption, Not completely unrelated to the more compact simplified computerized instrument Hoover used at the legendary Box of purple rain set of ECZJ III.

Trey's seemed capable of warping Fish's vocals though.

Not sure how close that is to what Radiohead uses when they play the song, which is pretty fuckin impressive if you've never experienced it in a live setting.

>>>No Quarter is a good tune

It is, and fun as fuck to play but I don't like seeing phish get smoked by mule.

it's not a good look for them.

The donuts have gone to their heads because considering ALL of the songs out there......Phish choosing to cover "O' Holy Night" is ridiculous, even on "Hole" night.

O Holy Mikes was perfect.

Tonight was some next level wizardy.

Hall. Of. Fame. Run.

O Holy Mike my ass! Fishman is getting grounded for this after tour. And to think that Phish needed this run to get in the Rock Hall is A.B.S.U.R.D.!

>>>>Furious, youre a musician...what was Trey "playin" tinkering with...during that song? I have no clue if i explained it correctly

its a kaoss pad

^ thanks , bucky....just looked one up....fun lil toy...

So in  reference to the Kaosillator ((( spelling ? ))) the first time I ever seen one,  Dr. Professor Timmy Hoover was raging it at Baltimore ECZJ.

I asked WTF is that,  and he explained.

Last time I saw him,  he had grafted that effect pedal into his Breast,  and the cybernetic Power was too much.

Teh authorities in North Jerseyland locked him up for an hour or so because Kaossilator disrupted many commercial flights at JFK,  EWR & LaGuardia.

Also he allegedly urinated upon a potted Geranium,  but the cops could never prove that.

So that is the story I heard.

Really loved the 2nd set

<<<And to think that Phish needed this run to get in the Rock Hall is A.B.S.U.R.D.!

Lol. Not at all what I'm saying.

You made me think of Douglas Adams, DS....which triggered the thought for a banner for Sunday encore walk thru garden, or draped behind stage...behind band so they dont see it right away...crowd would if unfurled from those low, behind stage seats....

So long , and thanks for all the Phish....

Get to work on it, complete w dolphin artwork...and ill meet ya at train station tmrw....

Or, we just get the sled loaded, get the team of dogs ready.....and they could pull  us around garden avenues etc...post show... you and i on the Sled and we unfurl as flag in the wind .

Talk w dogpack, see what they think

Boston Creme tonight.

Foreplay>Longtime Opener .

maybe an aerosmith tune or a boston tune or a cream tune or let it bleed or......

Dedicated non phish night...

Bostons first album set 1> Cream set 2> dream on - encore, call it a night

Boston Creme and the joke comes full circle.

The original joke Page made a while ago was that Phish was going to play 13 shows at the Dunkin Donuts arena in Providence and that they were going to call it the Bakers Dozen. Each night would have a theme like "Boston Creme" where they would play songs by Boston and Cream. And now it has come to pass.

Except the DD arena part.

If these guys were doing it for cash they would have called it quits a long time ago.

Musicians that actually love playing music.  Enjoy it while you can.

The question is, what do they play for Original Glazed tomorrow?

Call it a day, hambone.

>>>>>>The question is, what do they play for Original Glazed tomorrow?

My question is why no Mexican Cousin on churro night?

IMG_0251.JPG

Love ya too , slack hole

So I got to the venue early, but as expected there were more fingers in the air then the air itself!  Ticket prices were unsupportable financially and ethically.... So I kept at it.  Only reasonable offers were printouts someone got from their friend. Mmm no.  So shortly after the show began I got security to let me go to the box office. First attempt was thwarted as they said the box office had no tickets-sold out.  So my second try with security was tell them I had Will Call.   They let me right in.  I waited in a line of two people. I told the gentleman at the window I would like the cheapest ticket, or best if its the same.  He pulls one up. I ask ,as if it matters "where is it located?"  He says, "sec 109 it's a really good seat".  I had no idea until I went to the seat and kept walking down the stairs thinking" shit, i'm gonna be sitting on the stage".... Second Row!  Of course the evening involved very little sitting save for the train...

Part Two of my friends bday gift to my son.(.and I)..we in tonite, prob cancels tmrw....but, suite offer....could not be refused....;)

Just tuning in, enjoying this jamming a lot right now (8:36 pm) whatever song it is I have no idea . . .

After seeing Dweezil Zappa play a 3 hr set of his dad's music last nite I certainly see/hear where Phish owes Frank a HUGE debt of Gratitude . . .

I do agree w/Furious tho - they shouldn't be doing any covers that Mule does better (which is pretty much any cover Mule does)

Ewww Boston mashup - Glad I went Wed . . .

Hambone with the miracle! Those degeneratedzone.net guys are gonna lose their shit.

Tomorrow nights Big Country Horns show won't be worth 400 bucks.

Gotta Jibboo!

Oy vey - mashing it up ala Queen @ Live Aid . .  .

OMG where's my barf bag?

Bwa ha even they realized how Obnoxious that was.

It's all a Cartoon after all.

Boston Cream medley was awesome.

Kansas/Metallica flavor ?

Is there a stream of the show?

I know enuff to know that means they're gonna get the EPIC Suzy Greenberg

Suzy was already played night 1 set 2, SS.

No Suzy tomorrow

On Mixlr that is

Hey don't try to steal my comedy Schtick thunder w/your Truther Conspiracy Theories Mr 73guy ;)

Ahhhhh, it's about The Squirming Coil once again!

Jet fuel doesn't melt faces!

& Daly Plaza is all Concrete;  The 2nd Shooter on the Grassy Knoll was merely Echo's

I like petrichor

Missed the 1st song of 2nd set (buffering), finally got in during good jam, since then has been pretty much boring Cartoon Diddley Music to me . . . I may or may not know these songs, not sure I really care . . .

This reminds me of St of Circumstance

Jamming is Good, again . . .

This set (besides a few jams) is nothing but a big fat "MEH" IMHO.  I'm no Phishead tho lmao

This shoe reminds me of a classic early '80's Sat 2nd set ender:  Truckin -> Black Peter -> Round & Round -> Johnny B Goode

I don't care how custie they r, i love these donut shows

This has been the most disappointing of all the Donuts I've seen, listened to (or caught up on after the fact), which is pretty much all but the 1st 3.  But I ain't no Phishead, & my opinions on Panic & Mule also typically run against the grain of most Panic & Mule fans.  Also GD fans.  I will say Phish now blows DeadCo out the door by Eleventy Million Miles.  Their new motto should be:  "Phish, now contains far less Phoned In content than Dead & Co"

Still haven't seen a recording of the first night with Suzy.

New York, New York > Tweeprize encore tomorrow?

Congrats to Mr. Jambone for venturing to another MSG Donut.  I'm too fat & lazy for more Donuts.  Thought tonite's Set II sounded great,  another interesting setlist.

>>Still haven't seen a recording of the first night

You are horrible at this. Just give up. Listen to 80's punk and Disney tunes until the old folks home.

Wow....just wow..

20+ minute Ghost to open Set 2 of a night w many highlights was huge

Birthday my son will never forget....we had a ball, and home safe and somewhat sound

After all these many years, Phish is still uniquely great.

And that's all there is to it.

All the rest is just details and jibber jabber.

GO PHISH!!!

I have to agree with Mr. Heathentom.

The Phish have worked very hard over the Years to Own MSG for 13 Nights.

I am happy that I caught a couple shows,  and feel like I got my money's worth.

They really did a Great Job,  and made Dozens of people Very Happy.

smallspywood.jpg

After all these Years,  I am still a Huge Phish Fan.  They deliver  "The Goods"  to their Enthusiasts,  and are extremely professional with Sound & Lights.

Los Straight Jackets & Nick Lowe's free show outside, in the park next to Lincoln Center was the show to see in NYC last night.

All Hail the MIGHTY PHISH !!!

Do they play past curfew, tonite?

Wish You Were Here opener?

Won't likely happen,  but a cool set would be a blend of Pink Floyd and 'The Shocking Pinks'  (Neil Young project).  Start at 7:30 PM and go right to curfew,  no set break.  Each musician could wander off one at a time for pee break.

Phish did actually cover Floyd's  DSOTM album that time in Utah,  and have sprinkled a few Neil tunes in this run.

Do they play past curfew, tonite? <<<<<

I read somewhere that it will cost them $10,000 every minute they go over 11:30 curfew.

Taking one more night off exercising to indulge in getting wasted, listening to phish and eating pastries.

Been one gloriously unhealthy run.

Far Out

I caught an Izabella in 97 or 98 (I think 98) in Albany, the last time I saw these guys. This run is pretty impressive viewed from a distance by a non fan. Haven't listened to any of the music but have been enjoying zoners geeking out on the geekiness of Phish.

Helluva run.

Classic post, 'Cheeks.

Nice touch, msg bringing them to rafters w banner...helluva run

So long and thanks for all the Phish!

As a former Phish fan, I too, have been getting in to this run from afar. Quite impressive what they pulled off.

Both Trey and Paige were fighting back tears last night during "on the road again" according to a jam base article...i knew i heard it from Trey in opening lyric....

This band gave it everything they had last three weeks, and again last night. They were shot by time YEM was done, and then they rcvd gifts, flowers , etc from ppl in front row etc...the garden banner...the applause alone was enough to move ya...ya gotta hand it to them...as they say in sports , " they left it all on the floor" (field etc).

The Lawn Boy Reprise was classic...

Just an absolute amazing run ...and not just the 13 shows either...

Cpl weeks off, and Dicks ...should be fun...

After witnessing Trey and Page have a break-down on stage last night and openly crying during "on the road again" I guess I'll have to go to Dick's as well, as those tears point towards a long hiatus.

What a great run!  I'm a bit pooped after 13 shows in 17 days but nothing a little hibernation won't cure.  I thought each night was fantastic and the majority them pretty spectacular!  A very fun time had hanging out with Roshambo and some of her friends during this closing weekend - Hope your flight got off on time and that you find yourself safe and sound at home, Kate.

And now the anxiety begins in waiting for the NYE Announcement..............

Whats tonites flavor, Rob??

Sorry we missed each other Saturday..no way could i do post, and i hung out pre where i said id be, but you said prob post was better chance for meet up anyway, etc... ...funniest thing was Luke..(who met ya for maybe five mins cpl years ago) kept pointing to ppl walking by.."hey, that looks like, Rob...no, hey, THAT, looks like Rob"..lol...and Ro told me later that her phone was off pre show anyway....so.....next time , my friend...

Still cant blve ya went to them all...you deserve a banner in garden as well...;)

Safe travels, Ro!!....see ya on the rails....somewhere...

The July 29 4:14 PM photo has a pretty good view of Trey's amp / effect rig.  I had an almost good view of all that,  but didn't bring binoculars.  Looks like he's using three combo amps there.  Anyone have a link to recent article or info re: Trey's amps setup?

PHISH, TUESDAY 07/25/2017

MADISON SQUARE GARDEN

New York , NY

SET 1: Sample in a Jar, Lawn Boy [1] > My Friend, My Friend[2] > Stash, Bathtub Gin

SET 2: Fuego  > Thread > Crosseyed and Painless  > Makisupa Policeman -> End of Session[3] > Tuesday > Cavern

[2] No "Myfe" ending.
[3] Debut.

This show was night four of Phish's Baker's Dozen run at Madison Square Garden, consisted of a jam-filled donut theme, and was webcast via Live Phish. Raspberry jam-filled donuts dipped in honey were given out to fans arriving at the venue and songs such as Sample in a Jar and Lawn Boy were jammed out longer than usual. Lawn Boy featured Page on keytar. My Friend My Friend did not contain the "Myfe" ending. Trey quoted Jamming in Makisupa. End of Session debuted at this show.

What donut flavor song should stay in rotation?

Id say strawberry letter #23...

and then a Paul Hoffman (GSBG) sighting at  MSG.

I thought they were all pretty good.

I'm still having a hard time getting back to living any semblance of a serious or semi-meaningful life and not just wanting to get high, eat pastries, goof off and listen to phish.

Jam filled and Lemon were probably my favorite but I need to revisit Velvet and a couple other flavas.

I'd also b interested in hearing from the zone's long established and most respected chief aphishionado, HL73, on this subject.

Charlie Miller seeded his 24bit recordings for all 13 shows on bt.etree.org.
