Interesting to read this article to see how they're doing it compared to us. If we ever get down to a dozen new cases per day in the US (or the equivalent per capita), will the US take it as seriously in terms of enacting severe restrictions as a reaction to contain the headwaters of any outbreaks; or, will the FL, TX, AZ, etc. "open things up no matter what and damn the torpedoes" model be the status quo?

I'm glad you posted this. I grew up in Australia, and record the NRL Rugby games on FS1 and 2. The new season just started, and when I watched the game last week it struck me at how full the stands were. It's because they aren't a bunch od self-absorbed idiots who have created a false meaning for freedom.
Because Australians have complied with crazy strict 2-week lockdowns, they have the freedom to have big crowds at events. They seem to understand that you give a little to gain a lot. I'm sure that there will be agame with no one in the crowds because they are on a 2-week lockdown, then it will be full again.
Dipshits here are so worried about their "freedoms" that they aren't and won't really be free. It's part of the American psyche: guns, God, freedom and lack of critical thought.

You've hit the nail on the head as far as the way in which their approach has allowed them MORE freedom over the long haul by relinquishing some when it's necessary; likewise, about many here who have a short sighted view of "freedoms" and how it's going to protract this pandemic well beyond where it needs to. It's crazy to look at the stats of Australia and see how well they've contained it in recent times; despite a relative surge over the holidays. How long did you live in Australia?
