Lifelong Red Sox fan here.  Been pretty checked out last few years.. I've been done with the current ownership for a long time.  They should sell the team and take their huge profit from it and be gone.

Cora will be fired if he hasn't been already.

As a side note Cora and the Red Sox cheated. Patriots never did. I know that is not the narrative that Goodell wants you to believe but it's true.

I'm always shocked my a good sports scandal, but how did they actually get caught?  Also, no penalties for the actual players who listened to the trashcan drum?

Players are protected by the Union they didn't want to take them on.

That's an OLD sports saying, and stealing signs has been a part of baseball for well over 100 years.

The Astros & Red Sox got caught and individuals will pay, and all the other teams that do this type of thing and didn't get caught will work to make sure they don't in the future, while at the same time teams will all likely spend more time & effort to mask their signs.

It's sports, lighten up.

John Henry has his hands in English premier league soccer, auto racing, the Red Sox, and other ventures.  When they let Lester go by offering him an insulting contract was what broke for me.

Pretty fucked up that the Red Sox, World Series winners 2018 and the Astros, World Series winners in 2017 and barely runners-up this year, were blatantly cheating. And it was worth it. 
 

This isn't your average "if you aren't cheating you aren't trying" story, EVERYONE was told to stop this by MLB and the Astros and Red Sox carried on. In spite of what people are saying here I've read no other stories about other teams doing the same thing that the Red Sox and Astros were doing.
 

And a 5 million dollar fine? fucking hilarious. A tiny percentage of the money they made from winning the World Series.

Why don't they just get little ear pieces the pitchers can wear and the coach in the dugout can relay the pitches that way? The coach can hold a scorecard over their mouth so no one can read their lips just like the NFL play callers. Hell, have all players wear earpieces so they can be instructed when to steal a base, bunt, etc..

Time for MLB to move into the 21st century and lose all this sign language that can easily be stolen by the opposition.

The concept behind the phrase "lighten up" just seems to elude some posters.

MLB has been overrun with analytic departments, MBA's and advanced computer science nerds. From pitch counts to relief pitchers to launch angle radius to positional shifts. This is just another extension, leveraging tech to gain advantage in something that has been going in since the game began. Attendance will be down again this year.

Every single MLB team is trying to steal signs all game long and they all have video rooms to study their opponents and gain advantage wherever they can. Sure the Stros took it up a notch (and then ignored the warnings) but the outrage (OMG they be cheaters, what?!) is pretty silly. It's been ingrained in baseball forever.

I think the rub here Turtle is that without cheating, there is now way the Astros win that pivotal (bullshit) game 5 in HOU.  For Kershaw to give up both those leads?  Dodgers score 12 on the road and lose?  That game was the game where the cheating mattered. 
 

Dodgers win that game then they would've clinched at home in game six.  Would've avoided the Yu Garbage game seven. 
 

That being said, the Dodgers lost that game seven at home.  No ring for the boys in blue.

I find it interesting that many players around the league are more pissed at Mike Fiers (the whistle blower) than they are at the Astros.

When you consider how players change from team to team to team in this era of baseball, and you factor in how many teams are doing things outside the rules (MANY teams always are) it's amazing that no one talks about it.

It doesn't always make sense, but one of the things I love about baseball is it's many "unwritten codes".

The fact that so many players know this stuff is happening also makes me wonder why teams don't just make their signs more complex.

But maybe most teams do. Maybe that's why the Dodgers and Yankees should just be quiet.
