“I was always a prankster...And one time at WBBM, I decided I wanted to play a trick on everybody in the control room. So I caught a common house fly, went to one of the main microphones they used on the air, opened up the housing, put the fly inside, and closed it back up. Then I just sat back and watched them go crazy trying to figure out where the buzzing was coming from. The fly would buzz around inside the mic and then rest for a couple of seconds, and the engineers were going nuts trying to find the cause. Watching them trying to identify the problem just struck me as very funny, and they never did figure it out until I finally told them." -Les Paul In His Own Words
Noodler where is that Anthony Bourdain image from? Looks like the NW...
... just noticed the same pic on FB w/ this quote:
"Eat at a local restaurant tonight. Get the cream sauce. Have a cold pint at 4 o’clock in a mostly empty bar. Go somewhere you’ve never been. Listen to someone you think may have nothing in common with you. Order the steak rare. Eat an oyster. Have a negroni. Have two. Be open to a world where you may not understand or agree with the person next to you, but have a drink with them anyways. Eat slowly. Tip your server. Check in on your friends. Check in on yourself. Enjoy the ride."
Meanwhile in Eugene, neighbor pretends to be archer, shoots arrows into my fence, both through it and leaving many "dimples". I've been finding arrows in my backyard for months and returning them to him. Golf balls, too. I won't return them in the future, though it would be good if he worked on his aim.
From inside my fence, some of the 10 boards he shot through:
Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. This is the bridge where Mickey and Mallory were married in Natural Born Killers. Drove from here to Santa Fe after work; ate a few mushrooms and stopped at a tiny cafe in Carson, NM and had a nice time soaking in the environment and reading One Flew Over The Cucoos Nest; occasionally spacing out to the Native tribal drumming music playing in the background. Breakfast was great, amazing homefries, eggs and bacon. Great people in the middle of nowhere up at about 8,000 feet above sea level. I enjoy visiting these places for work and get lost in imagining a life out here if I had no family or anything tying me to home. Ultimately, I get home sick and am glad to just be visiting. I'd like to live some place remote when I'm older.. living off the land as much as possible and away from the hustle and bustle. I like the community vibe of these rural places.

I wonder if Weir has tried that with a guitar pickup.

I recall a Tom Waits interview in which he described putting a fly in his mouth, and letting it fly around....Les' story is much more amusing!
