Maybe Shapiro will be there to try and explain to all the "experts" how difficult it is to put on shows, and how he's figured out how to create unique shows, open good venues and not only exist but thrive among the corporate mega promoters.
Because, you know, as much as folks love to bag on that guy, he's REALLY good at what he does.
As for this deal, who cares? It's not that different than all those fantasy baseball camps, except at those you don't get to learn from or play with actual big-league players. At those you're lucky if you get to play catch with a retired 50-year-old benchwarmer.
I wonder what Phil Lesh or John Scofield might charge for a few lessons?
For those who play and can afford it this sounds like a fun little vacation, being able to play music every day with professionals, attend seminars with real big-leagers and play a concert with some of the best in the business.
For the rest of us who can't play or afford it, again.......
I don't know that I'd go so far as to say I care, Lance. My post about Shappy was motivated more by a desire to take a break from reading student writing and goof off on the black screen for a bit. And yeah, he's good at what he does, but I did think it was odd they included him in the roster. It was one of those One of these things is not like the others Sesame Street moments.
Merely thought I was passing along some info of import to the Zone about Phil. What came to my mind first was how these one-on-one opportunities with him will probably become more rare going forward.
Personally, these "camps" are not for me. I've been involved with some in the past and have found those with the desire and drive to become a serious musician are usually the only ones who actually have a chance to benefit from any knowledge that may be imparted.
Of course, the ROI for any of the packages offered looks risky. I'm not sure the Roadie package would be worth much at all, unless a participant could actually learn how to wrap cable properly.
Straw: The only way that graphic could be less offensive would be if Shemp was included. Neither Reagan nor the traitor pictured or any other politician, for that matter, should be included among real Stooges, who were comic geniuses, IMHO. Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk.
I agree, Mylar, and love the Three Stooges as well. Dummy does not even belong in the same universe as them, including Shemp et al, but I thought the elevating message and reality of the graphic was fairly fitting anyway. Thanks for other info too.
Don't get me wrong. I admired Shemp as much as his brothers and Mr. Fine. BUT, Curly was the most unique and talented of all, IMO. Those others, DeRita and Besser, couldn't hold a candle to him.
I'll leave you all with this:
