cool old buildings, great (sea) food, and a party district, you are headed for good times. It has been a long time so I cannot recommend any restaurants. My usual is to stop at a few places for appetizers. I liked walking around town and seeing the old buildings and churches.
Used to drive up to Savannah quite a bit when I lived in Florida. The waterfront district is fun and the town is steeped in history, but like Fabes, its been a while since I have been there. However, we used to always stop at the Pirates House restaurant because it is in a historic building (est. 1753) and well, pirates are cool. A river cruise is a good way to see the town and learn about its history.
For side trips, check out nearby Ft. Pulaski and the barrier islands on the Georgia coast
Only stopped there for a few hours on a return trip from Florida. Loved the southern charm and historic old buildings. Good southern food. Spanish moss growing on the big Oak trees. You'll enjoy the town a lot though it's been about 25 years since I was there.
I spent some time there a few decades ago. It'll be hot and humid. THe historic district is where you want to go, just to stroll. You really want to hit up Mrs. Wilkes for lunch. It's amazing. http://mrswilkes.com/
Also, take a 20 minute drive out to Tybee Island, which is beautiful. Get lunch or dinner at The Crab Shack: https://www.thecrabshack.com/
If this were PT, the "proper" vernacular for the title would be:
"Tell me about Savannah"
Also acceptable:
"Can we talk about Savannah, GA?"
I think it has to do with the Alpha/Beta undercurrent that is always going on there.
Having said that, I've never been to Savannah ... although have known a few people from there and have always wanted to visit ... especially being a student of the Civil War and reading about Sherman's march.
We usually do dawn beach walks and then hit Sunrise restaraunt for breakfast. River walk is great, get appetizers along the way, some live music venues and great people watching. There are some good coastal forest hikes outside of town, but I cant remember any names. Deep south, operates on island time, dont be in a hurry for anything. Have Fun!

I love the simplicity of their menu, which I include here in its entirety:
