Any electronics experts?

Forums:

I'm building my first diy guitar buffer. Having trouble troubleshooting a high pitched noise. It only occurs when I use a 9v dc power jack. If I hook up a battery it works perfectly. I've tried 3 different power supplies and replaced the dc barrel jack. Any electronics wizmos out there?

How are your grounds

The supply your using probably isn't filtered very well, if it has a lot of ripple on it it will bleed into the electronics. Even a good supply still isn't straight DC, it usually has some ripple on it but not enough to cause problems.

Huge filter capacitor on the supply should help if that's the issue,

Is there anything else in the chain or is it direct guitar>buffer>amp?

My first thought is RF interference picked up by the Wire between Wall-Wart and DC jack.  I'm no electronic expert,  but some Guitar effects just sound better with 9V battery compared to external DC supply.

Also I've noticed that many effects sound fine with "Genuine Boss PSA" but not so great with one-spot or other generic power supply adaptors.

I've tried isolating it but no difference. Battery works in all settings, power supplies work but there's a high pitched background noise.

Here's what I'm working with.

Is it a singular battery supply cable to the buffer that is directly plugged into wall?

Not a lot of details on buffer circuit but possibly some insight on how Tiger is/was wired up.

Single psu is the goal. Tried two different psu's and isolated pedal board supply. Same results.

This is a little different than most buffers. It is going to load the pickup with a variable impedance pot.
