Of course these groups have funding from larger financial machines to create these Media-fueled riots.

One side has the militant "Right-Wing Christian Trump-supporters"  and the other side are "Antifa"  and associates.  My sentiments toward you if you got sucked in.  It is an obvious planned divisionist riot to cause Trouble.

Any sane person with $25.00 to spend,  living near Portland,  would pass their weekend going to camp in the Mountains,  or go to the Coast,  maybe go out for a Good Snack. 

I lived in OR for a whole bunch of years and worked hard trying to earn leisure money.  NO WAY I would ever opt to attend a planned civil disturbance unless I was dead broke and got paid for it.  Actually,  even in that scenario I would say "Oh Fuck No."

My choice would be go for a hike,  check out that Museum,  visit the Coast,  or stay home and weed the Garden.

Stu, your experiences are yours, and have informed your opinions, just like the rest of us. However, it's not really possible to know why other people do what they do. For instance, why did I as a young teen participate in a 173 mile march for nuclear disarmament? There went my summer. And yet, the spirit of doing something to improve the chances of the planet's people/animals/water surviving was enough.

Thanks for sharing your experience / pics with us Ken, much appreciated!  Had several other friends with interesting reports.  They did see people throwing things at the cops when they became aggressive towards the crowd (one of the vids I posted showed that), but they also commented on the bottle rockets (they questioned if it was fire crackers, don't think they had a clear view).

As to the mafia, here in Oregon i'm aware of the Mexican and Russian mafias being active...   a friend trying to sell gold (had a good find) had two russians show up at his door after he sold some to "pawn shop" that was russian owned, needless to say, they wanted more!   The Mexican mafia did similar eons ago, but was drug related...

I've been in hundreds of marches, demonstrations, and rallies over the years. Never got paid, nor did anyone else I spoke with.

I don't really believe that the Nazi party people in the WW I -> WW II era were all that bright,  but like all the Dictator governments throughout History, they made the German people work for them,  or else.

It so happened that the Germans were great at developing Technology through Science,  in order to take over the World.  USSR was attempting the same stuff but could never quite keep up,  especially after USA grabbed all of what we thought were the best German scientists at the end of WW II.

They (Germany) had better Submarines and other war Technology compared to "The Allies" back then.

Air - War machines they were ahead of USA,  in that they had the "Foo-Fighters"  and crazy stuff that we had no idea of until we saw them in action.
Not just a Band Name.  These FF's were cylindrical high-speed flying machines that went much faster compared to fighter-planes of the time.

Probably they have not been too well-publicized because aviation corps and govs would rather keep a shade on that branch of technology.

Anyway my Dad was over there fighting the Nazis back in WW II in the forties.  Pretty much all those guys are dead now.  A few things he told me I still recall.  One was that he was not all that fond of being in the Military,  but that was what he had to do. 

As he put it,  there was no dissent, protest or popular anti-war sentiment among the populace.  The media propaganda was so strong and thorough that any young guy of Military age was scorned and ridiculed by the *other* locals if he was 'home with the Girls' rather than being overseas as Cannon-Fodder.

One of his Pals could not get in the Military due to a bad Leg of some sort,  and the Peer - Pressure from locals in Jersey City, NJ (near NYC) convinced him to leave his hometown and work the Railroad out in Alaska.  No shit.  Went as far away as he could.

I met the guy a few times when he visited Back East.  Nice fellow.  But the social pressure was such that an 18 - 20 -ish male was scorned by society for not being overseas fighting the Nazis.

There are paid agitators and professional shmucks on both sides, but I think that they are a small minority. The vast number of people out there are honest to goodness racists, happily waving their flags, and people who hate racism, happily waving their flags.

Another  story I recall (he really did not tell many War stories...  said it was something everyone had to do,  and then ya move on)

So there was a time when they (US, the Good Guys) had basically taken over Europe and killed, captured or overtaken the Nazis.

His job was to blow up some stuff (bridges, roads, infrastructure) and build other stuff.  He was in the Engineering Corps of the Army.

Anyway,  they were done with that phase and awaiting "orders".  In the military at that time,  you could not say "I'm pretty much done with this job,  and I've got a much better offer from IBM."  You actually had to wait until the higher-ups told you where to go be cannon-fodder next.

So he and his troop or platooon or branch,  whatever it was called,  are basically waiting around somewhere to hear where they are going next,  and the rumour was "We will probably ship you to Japan".  The way he put it, none of them wanted to go fight the Japanese soldiers.

He explained,  "When you defeat a batch of Germans during WW II, they acknowledge that they have lost the battle,  put down their weapons and surrender.  However,  the Japanese never surrender and will battle to the Death.  So none of us soldiers were very enthusiastic at the prospect of going to Japan..."

Anyway,  the story goes that Nagasaki and Hiroshima had Atom Bombs dropped upon them and soon the War was over.

Dad and fellow troops got to go back to the States,  and live out their lives in whatever way.

Dad had a few more interesting tales,  which I only heard as he approached the Grave a bit closer.

But as a High School kid,  military recruiters would call me on the home telephone (Yes,  they are that obnoxious) attempting to offer me crazy Whacky deals involving College Tuition and Military service.

"Oh Hell Yeah. We'll train ya to fly the Fastest Jet Aeroplanes and pay all yer Tuition..."

So back then there was only the landline,  and we did not even have cordless fones.  The parents consistently monitored telephone communications of the Kids.  No  such thing as internet or email back in the late 70's in a residential house.  If there was a phone call for the kid,  they knew,  and Mom would usually snoop on another line.

Mom & Dad were aware that branches of the Military were calling me to recruit. Actually I would just tell them,  "That one was the Navy",  etc. We had a fairly open system of communication with the Parents realizing that their Boy was approaching independence,  college and so forth.

Dad gave me a sincere talk and said "I realize that I can't make decisions for you,  or order you what to do in Life.  However,  I can't advise you that being in the military is a worthwhile choice for you.  For one thing,  they give you orders and you can't say 'No'.  Also,  I think that you are a bit on the independent and rebellious side,  and might not like taking orders.  And I think you might be better off doing something different and more interesting,  compared to the Military."

I had already asserted my independence and such by going off on Dead tour with no notice or permission about 15 & 1/2. So the parents already knew I was completely out of control,  but capable of achieving simple tasks like hitching across the Continent or getting good Grades in school.

They were sort of relieved to hear from me in Arizona when I called to say "Hi".  So after that,  they were grudgingly allowing more freedoms,  and said "Finish High School and keep out of trouble.  You can take the Truck to yer Dead Shows as long as you show up at School in the Morning.  Stay Home and the Fridge has Food in it."

But anyway,  Dad explained his thoughts on Military life,  and really talked me out of it without hardly trying.  Perhaps I missed out on something,  but I really think it just was not my Path.  He's been gone over a Decade now,  but that little "Don't go in the Military" chat is one I still recall and say "Thanks Dad".

Now my actual "Community" is me and the Dog.  Deer and Raccoons don't count.  They don't have a vote.  But if "Bad People" show up to my rural location,  the cops are not around to notice.  So it's up to me & Dog to disperse the Bad People.  This is private land.  But there are still rules.  I can't chop you, "Redneck" up with an axe just because you wear a Hitler t-shirt.  Someone might complain,  even though it is private land.

Generally I don't get many visits from Bad People. The last Nazis were about 71 years ago across the Atlantic Ocean,  and they've all died off.  When strangers show up,  they carry credentials like "Meter Reader" or such.  If not, they are told to get the FUCK off the property.

I hope this clarifies everything.  While my land is my private property,  it's actually Indian Land.  Same as that County or Township Park.

And by the way,  if you do show up in a Hitler T-shirt,  I'd probably ask you to leave.

But it would be the same if your shirt had Nixon or Reagan or Mao or Stalin,  pretty much any politician.

Now if your shirt had Hendrix or Garcia or Danny Partridge,  you would get a 30-second chat before I said "The Road is over there."
