Anthem Of The Sun 50th Anniversary Limited Deluxe Edition

Forums:

I was reading the hype on this release and it says that the additional live show from 10/22/67 Winterland is the first known recording with Mickey.  I always assumed that he was on the Shrine shows from 10/10 and 10/11 1967.

Anyone have the inside dope?

Deadbase says he was at the Shrine shows.

Wonder which mix is on the 50th Ann. disc?

At that point in 1967,  I was a diaper-wearing toddler in Pakistan,  absorbing the Hindu / Muslim culture,  playing with the local Scorpions,  and cuddling with the Dog.

So quite similar to now,  but I can't afford diapers.

My DeadBase VIII says this... "9-29-67 Straight Theater,  San Francisco... Mickey Hart's first show with the Dead..."

Here's what I've got: (™ © ®  DeadBase,  fair use media augmentation...)

Surf, I read that the first disc will have both the 1968 mix as well as the more commonly available 1971 mix.

The second disc will feature the live show.

Seems like they really liked that Eagle's Auditorium back then.

But there may not be a recording of 9/29/67, is there?

So 10/22 is first recorded show with Mickey (10/20 was studio).

Obviously no one remembers when Mickey first played,  or labeled the tapes properly,  if they even had it together enough to roll the tape deck.

They were all Zoned - Up on marihuana,  as documented by the 10-2-67 reference in 'DeadBase'.

It seems that they all fled to NYC around X-Mas to escape legal difficulties that year.  Pigpen's attorney's Great-Uncle told me they set the court date  for February 29th on a Leap Year.

Maybe it was the 30th,  I forget.

Opps, got my dates wrong, my bad, thanks for the correction. I knew that my copy of 9/15 was the last show I had with only Billy.

I already have 10/22, I'll have to give it a spin and see what the quality is like.

Many thanks.

I wonder if maybe Mickey is not mic'ed at the 10/22/67 show? Or even sitting it out? Billy's snare is in one speaker and the ambience of the rest of the kit is in the other. I have played drums for 30+ years and I am simply not hearing 2 drumsets in this recording. Good show nonetheless!
