<<Since its inception three years ago, American Strings has become one of OSU’s signature music series. By blending conversation with recording artists from all genres of music, with intimate acoustic performances, American Strings has explored how great music is made and has provided fans and students with a deeper understanding of the American music tradition. But like so many other exciting OSU events, American Strings has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. A sold-out show in April that would have featured the legendary folk-blues group Hot Tuna, was canceled due to the Governor’s stay at home order and future American Strings programs at the Majestic Theater have been put on indefinite hold for the safety of our crew, guests and audience members.

But I have exciting news! Due to the deep interest in American Strings and our desire to continue to serve the OSU community, the College of Liberal Arts has partnered with the OSU Foundation and the OSU Alumni Association to move the program online. On June 23, please join me as I welcome legendary Texas blues artist Jimmie Vaughan to the OSU American Strings family. Vaughan will talk about his own career, the role of Texas blues in American music and the impact his brother, Stevie Ray Vaughan, had on the blues. Jimmie will speak and play from his home outside of Austin. The program is free, but we would appreciate a donation in support of our Beavers Care initiative to assist students in the College of Liberal Arts who have been impacted by COVID-19.

Thank you for your interest and support of American Strings. We’d love your continued support of this new chapter of the series and for Beavers Care. I hope you’ll join me on June 23 and stay tuned for announcements regarding more upcoming remote American Strings programs.

Stay well and have a great summer,  Bob
