American Cheese: shwagg or underrated?

Forums:

Underrated, IMO.

Is it not the "classic" cheese for both grilled cheese and hamburgers?

Underrated. i made a grilled cheese sandwich with cheddar tonight, and it was seriously lacking..  Processed American cheese food is delicious

Me no likee.

Great when it's melting on

Grilled cheese with white bread

cheeseburger

flaming hot corn tortilla, bologna and slice of cheese

enjoy it while you can comrades..

Processed cheese is linked to alzheimer's. Eat up.

Surf meet Chacho. Chacho meet Surf.

This intro couldn't be any more organic.

Shwagg

not schwagg or underrated.

probably right about where it should be.

Underrated.

Chop up a bunch and add it to your mashed potatoes. You won't be let down.

Not underrated, totally gnarl except great on grilled cheese and burgers.

I also like liquid nacho cheese.

>I also like liquid nacho cheese

Same here.  I'm not a big fan of the cold coagulated mess that most restaurants call nachos.

goes great with freedom fries

nasty nasty product.

disgusting

BEST on a cheesesteak.

>nasty nasty product.

>disgusting

It's neither of those but Im curious -  Do either of you like mayo?  There's a strange correlation there.

^interesting. depends on the situation. aioli/homemade flavor infused mayo, sure.

straight mayo outta the jar on a sandwich or something like that, pass.

Fake cheese for fake times. Or alternative cheese if you will.  Schwag nasty ass shit...but I will eat it, of course, if it's already there such as in most dishes at my white trash family gatherings. But it's not really cheese. I certainly don't buy it as part of my staples at home and don't order it on my cheeseburger if there are other choices.

Nothing wrong w/ mayo. It's just oil, vinegar, and eggs.

American "cheese", on the other hand, is just an abomination.

IT'S NOT FAKE.

Velveeta? Yes.

White American? NOT FAKE.

The white American cheese is underrated, the yellow stuff, not so much

I didn't eat American cheese for something like 20 years, but have had it on burgers in the last year and I like it all right. I say "underrated", and poised for a comeback.

Dairy itself is overrated

>> White American? NOT FAKE.

The federal government and cheese.com disagree.

Under the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations, American cheese is a type of pasteurised processed cheese.

Depending on the percentage of cheese versus additives, the taste and texture of American cheese may vary. Also, the colour may change from orange, yellow to white as decided by the food manufacturer.

So what's the verdict?

Cheeze whiz in a landslide!

goes great with freedom fries<<<

As much as I like In-N-Out's "animal style" fries (with American "cheese"), I'd say cheddar is my preferred favorite on

The Turnpike Weed of cheeses.

It is adequate.

Yellow American Cheese = Trump?

Discuss.

American cheese is best for a grill cheese and nothing else.

Nacho cheese, Chese whiz etc are horrible horrible things.

For a burger a prefer blue crumbles or roquefort.

^^Yes and yes yes

High in salt and reduced fat even higher, cause for monitoring.

wait wait wait.  My understanding has been Kraft singles- cheesefood or cheese product on label.  17 ingredients, gelatin. Gross.  Real american cheese is underrated   Orange or white (prefer white) as long as not "cheese product". I think the processed part just means it has been pasteurized.    So real american might be harder to find but Cooper, Boars Head, dietz n watson, etc. make good ones.  As others mentioned it is good for grilled cheese and burgers for melting qualities. The meltiness is from cream i think. Its just a bland melty cheese to me.

for me when i want grilled cheese or burger or feeling nostalgic-

yes:  http://dietzandwatson.com/products/american-cheese-3/     (underrated)

no:   http://www.kraftrecipes.com/products/kraft-singles-american-cheese-s-207...

I LIKE CHEESE smiley but i aint no expert

they serve a swiss cheese turkey burger on a whole wheat bun at the local joint... great for when I'm 'in training', but when I feel like going all in on some serious fat (aka flavor), the double [american] cheese burger (called the dolly parton lol) with fries and O rings is about as good as it gets.

At the local small boutique grocery store I shop at for veggies/meat/etc, they hire a lot of local suburban high school kids, these 2 kids were stocking the cheese shelves & laughing at the cardboard box that said in big print nothing but "WHITE AMERICAN"

Can be tasty & convenient, but it's not cheese.

It depends

Kraft Swiss singles are just flat Laughing Cow Swiss triangles.

I was out & about today & had a famous Ted's Steamed Cheeseburger for lunch, 1st time in like 20 years, the cheese was the weakest part, probably American . . . we'll see if I remember in the next 20 years to "hold the cheeze"
