Today is the 20th anniversary of one of the most important and enigmatic albums in modern rock music by one of it's most mysterious and legendary bands, Neutral Milk Hotel's "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea". Not really the type of music I would associate with the zone, and not really the kind of music i listen to much anymore, but this is by far one of the best and most influential albums of the last 20 years.
After releasing this album, this band and its lead singer, Jeff Mangum, totally dropped off the radar with no explanation for over 10 years, fueling all kinds of rumor and legends of the mysterious rock and roll hermit, Jeff Mangum. The question of what happened to Jeff became a mythology unto itself.
This is the kind of far out album that inspires praise from critics such as; “feels like a body of mythic experience, animated by some original energy from before the Common Era. Whoever or whatever authored the album feels as remote in time and space as the Big Bang, and as omnipresent."
