Adios Athletics

Forums:

The Oakland Athletics purchased the property to build a new stadium on the Las Vegas Strip yesterday.  They expect to be playing there by 2027.

While it's a good thing that the A's will finally have a Major League quality facility (after years of playing at the degraded Oakland Coliseum, which the city let Al Davis ruin when they let him redesign the outfield seating in order to lure the Raiders back from L.A., before they left again for Las Vegas anyway), it's both a bummer for Oakland (which has now lost all of it's major sports franchises), and for MLB, which now is attaching its' cart to Las Vegas and all of it's smarmy baggage.  It's unfathomable to me that with the ongoing drought and severe lack of water in the Southwest that Las Vegas is continuing to be developed.

Anyhow, the A's itinerant ways (Philadelphia>Kansas City>Oakland>Las Vegas) will continue, and all Oakland baseball fans will have left will be memories of some great teams, players, and characters.

People who think this ownership will start spending money on players once they move to LV are delusional. He will fill the new park with opposing team fans who want to visit LV and catch their team and won't spend any money on the A's. The Giants suck here too. The A's gave them the San Jose market to help keep them in SF and then refused to give it back when the A's wanted to move.

I just wonder how much more empty the Oakland stadium can get between now and 2027. It already looks like Covid games.

Adios Major League Baseball!

More generally go to hell corporate sports.

Even more generally go to hell corporate entertainment.
