79 Repeats?

So I've been listening to the little September 79 mini tour. Look at the set list for the Tuesday and Thursday night show of a three night run at MSG. Same 2nd set openers both nights and 5 repeated songs. Did people not go to all three nights back then?
The tour was kind of insane too. Glen Falls to Rochester then back the same way and on to Augusta Maine in three days - then a night off and then three days in NY. Over a thousand miles. I guess the garden was available those dates and they decided to add some shows around it. I doubt many people hit all six of these, because the real fall tour was a month away with 12 more shows.
Anyway it was all new to me in 79. Of the two shows I caught they could have repeated every song and I wouldn't have know the difference.

I would just assume that they played what they felt like playing at the time.

Well it wasn't 1979, but in 1976 (when the number of songs in rotation was less than before or after) the four show June Tower Theater run had all first sets end with Promised Land. By night three, I knew when to get to the restroom without the set break long lines; others knew on night one.
nevertheless, that four night run is one of my fondest GD memories - great music, small venue, great friends, great seats

Kicked off the Summer '76 tour with 17 straight Samson's, took a breather the 3rd night in Chicago, then another run of 11 in a row.
Joe Dimaggio would have been proud.

I was at both shows with our friends. Took NJT from Trenton and spent both days roaming around Manhattan. We would always do pre show brews and chow at the old Blarney Stone on 8th Ave a few blocks away--it was a buffet and we were pounding on the corned beef and Guinness. Thought these were both solid shows and remember being surprised to hear the repeats. This is when Weir's mic stand was slightly positioned in the front of the stage, ahead of Phil and Jerry. Yes, back to back, these MSG have the most repeats from one night to the next that I can recall hearing live at the show

3 is not that bad.
In '77 (with the exception of the opener & closer) i think they basically played the same first set every night.

I did this whole mini-tour,
I did this whole mini-tour, here's all I can remember...
Glen Falls -- don't recall the show itself much, but saw a tee shirt that road-mapped the six shows of the tour, I liked it and later made "map" shirts myself.
Rochester -- my introduction to Genesee Cream Ale. A couple of cases loaded into our van. Enjoyed the show.
Augusta -- hottest show of the tour. Wild dancing on the floor, especially during the Let it Grow, Whew.
MSG -- my first time in Manhattan, was overwhelming for this suburban boy. A lone beat cop kept the peace on the street outside the Garden, just by looking mean and having a nightstick with what appeared to be a lead weight on the end. Inside the venue was a freakin zoo, felt like kids were hanging from the rafters (maybe they were, ha). Shows were solid, what I can recall.
These weren't my first Dead concerts, but the first time I'd traveled far, and did a "tour". Ahh, nostalgia. Thanks OP for reminding me!

Nice I figured someone here did them all. I was at an all-boys catholic high school at time. My parents had put me in to get me away from bad influences. Of course, that school had way more dead heads and everything that goes with that than the public school I was in.
I remember some of the kids in that school had made the trip up to Augusta and I was so jealous because they had played Truckin (A big deal to me at the time) and in my head that meant they wouldn’t play it in Cape Cod which I had tickets for. Fucking strange the shit we remember.
From some of the reviews online Rochester sounded like a huge drunk fest, and Bobby even called out the cops for being assholes from the stage.
