50 Best Restaurants In The World

Forums:

When you lost the NYT's as being too pretentious that is saying something.

Gaggan, in Bangkok, was named not just the ninth-best restaurant in the world but the single best restaurant in Asia.

What follows are about two dozen dishes organized in two acts (with intermission). The menu is written in emojis. Each bite is accompanied by a long story from Mr. Anand that may or may not be true. The furrowed white orb splotched with what appears to be blood, he claims, is the brain of a rat raised in a basement feedlot.

This list makes me want to travel and work while there to be able to afford these works of art.

Great list and love that #1 is in Barcelona.

I've only had a couple of dining experiences at that level in my lifetime.

Though not on the list, Le Bernardin in Manhattan was a dining experience that about brought me to tears, almost speechless, ha!

I have been in Queens this weekend visiting my son before we head over to Ireland tonight and yesterday we walked all over Jackson Heights (most culturally diverse neighborhood in the world) and on to the Queens Night Market in Flushing Meadows sampling various street food along the way.   Ate so much - Bengali, Polish, Burmese, Salvadorian, Colombian, and Tibetan (along with Peruvian margaritas).   None of it looked like the dishes in the pictures in the story above, but it was really good (and surprisingly affordable, especially for NYC).  Everything under $10.

Oh I love that type of eating experience, too, Ken!   Glad you're having fun there to kick off your big international trip!

Going to the restaurants on this list would be like going to art galleries... the chef is presenting their art.
