4th of July Weekend 1988: Dead/Feat at the Oxford Speedway

Forums:

Great times: Feat had just gotten back together a few months earlier, Saturday was sweater weather, smell of pine trees/Sunday was warm & sunny.

Laid back scene all weekend, parked Sunday on a locals lawn for $10, included hamburger & fries for lunch.  Daze in in Portland was all heads.

Parking and a burger and fries for $10. smiley

The good ol' days.

They should have charged $12 and added a few doses to the deal.

How many people were there. Seen pics and looks like a lot

It was a great show.

I remember heading in on Friday, and the Maine Turnpike was a parking lot. My memories of the rest of the weekend are pretty much a coke and ecstasy fueled blur, although I do recall chatting with a security dude, and he said we were a much nicer bunch than the Monsters of Rock crowd from the previous weekend.

Phil's bombs in Jack Straw are pretty epic too and that aud really captures them in all their gut-punching glory.

Mike, if ya got 7 minutes, like to hear how Phil sounded, and want to smile, check out the Mr Fantasy > Hey Jude (preferably with headphones or loud on a good system).

"Digital" Jeff was an early adopter of the technology -- by 88 he had it down. All I can say it was often a bitch / miracle to get all that stuff in, set up, and running.

" SV-100 Digital Audio processor, designed for use with a VCR, provides very high quality digital audio processing for digital audio recording and playback.  Not only is the SV-100 compact, it weighs only 2,9 kg (net) making it the world's lightest digital audio processor. This means that the SV-100 is ideally suited for portable use, especially when combined with the matching Panasonic NV-100 VCR. "

I was there both days find lazy Maine summer days. One thing stands out to this day--Phil's monster bombs during Jack Straw that almost knocked us over

A very laid-back scene considering there were an estimated 100,000 people there. I did the last half of the tour; big fun everywhere.

And yes, Phil was the MVP here!

Bumping this to hear Alan's thing tomorrow
