Oh boy, hey hey, it's a National Holiday...

Independence from tyranny is just less than 4 months away!

Hunter would have been a huge asset in our current situation. I feel as though he would have really made a difference in Trumps live appearances, fox trap interviews, rose garden announcements, everywhere. he would let him have it. The fake media BS thats pandered he would have a ton to say about it. I just finished "Better Than Sex" and man its poignancy is stinging. Hes deeply missed. The self serving attitude and total shit show of the administration in charge would be eviscerated  by him. What a fuck show of a mess we are in. Stay safe be kind and "when the going gets weird, the weird turn pro"❤️

NEVER EVER CALL 911

^ Ketchup on a Hot Dog? WTF?

I wonder if the caddy pictured above is the one John Oats found in the living room of the first house he bought in Aspen

fake holiday.

Great thread JP.

And Neil, right when I started reading your post I knew I'd see the word "eviscerated" in there. Well said.

He is truly missed. Many folks don't realize how politically astute the guy was, but he could really see through most of the BS

and tell it like it was.

HST and the GD really were what "made America great." You could be very loyal to your country but also be able to fiercely criticize it

without fear of being thrown in prison for doing so. (In general, anyway).

That may be over if it's another 4 years of this traitor in the White House.

Yes, Thompson would have fucking eviscerated this uneducated, uninformed fool.

i watched Trumbo last nigjht. Highly recommend it.

Juneteenth = Actual Independence Day for all

They're all fake, ogkb. For all our faults, it's still okay to celebrate being American and the freedoms that those of us with white privilege have.

Please tell us more about celebrating white privilege Brian. I’m trying to learn.

I'm also just learning. I think that enjoying the 4th is a good place to start.

So I found a Vintage stash of Fireworks which I had forgotten in the Barn.  Just consumer stuff,  not professional - grade.

Mostly visual stuff (Roman Candles and small aerial sparky Thangs.)

A brick of firecrackers,  things that spin with showers of colored Sparks.

I tried one and it went "Bang-Bang-Crackle-Bang"  so it's still under warranty.

Yes Brian, and what have you learned so far about celebrating white privilege?

In all honesty, I'm 1st generation American and the son of a Holocaust survivor. I'm sure as hell glad that I was born here and am a US citizen. I see the good that this country offers, as well as the problems.

I see. I'm a second generation American myself. My family fled Sicily from the fascists 100 years ago, last year. Also proud to be an American citizen.

Do you understand what white privilege actually is? And why it really isn't something to celebrate? Like, at all?

It's because Canada Day was July 1 and USA folks are 3 days late.  Canada stole all the Good holidays because,  the Queen.

Happy 4 th Fellow Friends.

I'm not daft. You clearly missed the sarcasm in my post up there.

I missed the sarcasm, too, Brian. Our white privilege has certainly given us freedoms that many of our brothers and sisters don’t have.

Okay then, draw us a straight line from sarcasm to Holocaust please.

>>>>Do you understand what white privilege actually is?

Heard a segment on NPR's "Philosophy Talk" last week discussing the topic.  One question is whether "white privilege" is actually a "privilege" or just the way people should be treated in general and something that has been wrongfully denied to many classes of other people.   For example, as a white guy, I can go shop at a store and not be followed around by security thinking I am going to steal and can be pulled over by a cop and not have to worry too much about being pulled out of the car and be beat up or worse.   Is that a "privilege" or just the way people should be treated?  I certainly don't want to lose that "privilege" and have harassment be just a normal part of interactions with the police.  Just wish that such common courtesies and basic rights are extended to all people:

Read my post. First, I was responding to a particular post. I then made it clear that freedom isn't equal, and it's based on skin color (which inherently gives white privilege). Do you disagree with that?

You're not more woke, Bss. I don't need to draw any lines for you.

And I'm not having a contest about what should be common sense shit with you Brian

My words here are clear enough I don't need to backpedal to try and explain them away, or use the Holocaust as some sort of qualifier.

I'm celebrating my privilege.

Slacker.

You seem to have made quite a few assumptions, haven't you. Where's the common sense in that?

Go along, have a hot dog and some sparklers now Brian.

No thanks, but I won't begrudge or judge anyone who chooses to do so.

Looks like once again, Brian K has found himself in some trouble.

I know. I made such a controversial post up there.

Hey now jr. happy fourth sir

Greg and I used to travel to WA (yes, to the res, among other places) to get big fireworks, but sometime (in the '90s or early 2000's?) it started feeling and sounding too war-like. We felt sad and angry about U.S. military men and women killing and being killed as the sounds of fireworks in our neighborhood got more intense. Greg was done before I was, but then there was one moment, one clarifying moment, of sounds flying by my head as I walked around one evening (not even 4th of July) and it was too loud and powerful to keep being part of when it made of think of war. That was the end. I eventually got rid of the ones we had left.

One of our latest denizens and without a doubt, joining a list of our all-time greats.
