42 years ago today, August 4, 1976, my first Grateful Dead show @ Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, NJ. The place was a shithole. The experience was exciting and unforgettable for a 16 year old. I'll always remember the Ice Cream vendor inside the venue hawking his wares, yelling "Ice Cream! Ice Cream & Acid!" ~ The music was awesome, and the sense of shamanic freedom was liberating for a 16 year old kid. Bizarrely, Mr Jiggs the Tricycle-riding Chimpazee performed between sets.

Honestly, for me The Dead were one of many great bands that I saw that Summer, like Yes, The Eagles, Boz Scaggs, Bromberg and others. It wasn't until the next year at Englishtown '77 (see Dick's Picks 15) with 150,000 people, that I became a Dead Freak forever. a term that pre-dated 'Dead Head". But with this first show, I was off to the races!!!

Here's the whole show on b& w Youtube!:

Based on the quality of the 4 Dead shows there, it is the greatest outdoor venue they played in the 70s

Red Rocks seems like slightly nicer place than that.

It was also my 1st show. Had VIP tickets with meet & greet. HA HA HA. I don't think so!!!  Went to Red Rocks Aug 30&31 1978 Roosevelt was not as nice as R.R. but they didn't have cartoons and a monkey on roller skates smoking a cigarette. It was another time in a forgotten space. Were does the time go ? I got in for free. This was before i need a miracle ticket. Those days are gone for every I should just let them go. Nice to know it wasn't just my hallucination long agosurprise

This is a fantastic show.

Thank you for the memories

That was my High School football stadium. Saw quite a few concerts and games there before they tore it down.
