42 years ago the love affair with the Warfield began

Forums:

It was 42 years ago that the good ol' played 15 nights at the Warfield, the theater Bill Graham had started using about a year earlier.

It was an amazing time & place to be and I consider myself very lucky to have seen five of the shows.

Maybe even more amazing is that 42 years later shows are still happening at that venue, and other than the seats gone from the floor it's pretty much exactly the same venue as it was in 1980. That's pretty damn great IMO.

Here's a cool 25 minute documentary from the shows.

I couldn't find it on youtube, but I don't think you have to have a facebook account to watch it.

Thanks for the video.  So great to transport back to those days.

I also got to 5 of them, including the first night.  I wasn't aware they were playing acoustic sets and I still remember my reaction when the curtain rose and there they were on the acoustics.  Pretty amazing set of shows.

Best job I ever had was when I got paid my bonuses in the form of Warfield tickets. So many amazing nights there, but never saw the dead. The only thing that didn't get canceled when they shut down the city after the Rodney King riots was JGB at the Warfield.

My only Warfield show was the last GD show there in 1983. Saw the last show of that 3 night run. Feel lucky to have been there.

Only saw the last 3 nights of the 2008 'last shows" with Phil and Friends. Felt lucky to attend a musical shrine.

I was just there on Sunday seeing what kikagaku moyo claims will b there final Bay Area performance.

the band was good but the venue kinda stole the show for me, sounds damn good in that room and the vibe is pretty sweet.

Been a while since id'd been there but it hasn't lost any of its mystique for me.

bands r fortunate to play there as r the audiences who attend.

garcia in that theater must have been downright majestic, lord knows Phil was

Primus Halloween 03 I puked all over the stairs handrails to the bathroom.
