Well, it seems like the only logical way to combat this virus was an all-out draconian shutdown. There just couldn't have been a more nuanced and smarter approach to save lives and keep the economy going. Nope, no other options. Our government leaders should be commended for having the bravery to tell everyone just to stay in their house. Heroes.
That's right - EVERY govt entity, large and small, is going to feel the squeeze as their budgets get swiss-cheesed and re-arranged with massive cuts. Even if the Federal govt/Congress was willing to step up and assist, printing money into the void is not really a viable solution either. Taxes have been getting cut over many years to historically low levels and the musical chairs game of chicken continues as nobody wants to be the last jerk standing that has to raise them while also addressing cuts. We seem to have become content with dysfunctional scam government that merely plays for political points.
When we end prohibition on a federal level we will have enough tax money to buy the government back from the corporations, politicians, and assorted criminal entities. It's go time.
The national debt is currently 25 trillion. If you include unfunded liabilities of the U.S. gov't (social security medicare, pensions, etc), we are closer to 75-100 trillion.
We can't print, tax or export our way out of this. At some point, a reset of the financial system will need to happen. The dollar as we know it will cease to exist.
Sound money will return at some point, and along with that will be the establishment of a more equitable and responsible system.
Been extremely fortunate to have an income through all of this; we've hired over 160 people in the past 6 months and are looking to hire around another 40. Cannot produce anywhere near enough weed to meet demand right now.
They're saying like 40% of the layoffs will become permanent job losses. these businesses in many cases can't afford to stay in business if forced to open at half capacity they can't make any money.
I read there is a coalition of over 700 small businesses in NJ that wrote a letter to the governor saying they are opening up with or without the consent of the state government.
This shit is useless government bureaucracy that doesn't provide any real layer of safety yet at the same time, prevents people from going out. Nobody wants to be treated like a sub rate human being.
I went into a shoe store yesterday and now you can't try the on shoes in the aisle. You bring the box up to the counter and they take them out and just hand them back to you to try on. What? An exercise in stupidity. Who wants to do that when you can order from Amazon and not have to participate in a ruse.
