Carlos Santana's Blues For Salvador Concert 1/23/1988 Henry J Kaiser Auditorium
Really one of the great concerts I've ever seen. Carlos, Jerry, Bob, Wayne Shorter, Tower of Power, Bonnie Raitt, Boz Scaggs, NRBQ and many others. A truly great night of music, and always special and fairly rare to hear Jerry play in different settings.
I had always thought that Wayne Shorter was very similar to Jerry and they'd be brilliant together, but I never thought I'd see it happen. Thank god for Carlos Santana.
It was also the night I "discovered " NRBQ. I'd heard of them but knew nothing about them. After the first few minutes of their set I thought Bonnie Raitt must have been drunk when she introduced them as the greatest rock 'n roll band in the world. At first I found them to be a sloppy rag-tag with a total clown on piano. By the end of their set I thought Bonnie was spot-on and the piano player was a genius.
God damn they were a good band.
Here's the show. The sets are mixed up from what's listed, but if you bounce around it all seems to be there. The finale is right after NRBQ's first song. It's worth the time to give the whole thing a listen...

That concert was sooooooooo
That concert was sooooooooo long. Everything set was so good, ya didn't want to leave your spot. I remember it as crowded; not a social, bop round the Kaiser event. Kept waiting for Jerry to pop up at any time. Kept ya on your toes.
Thanks for the link.
