I thought the sound was good on the stream, but the band was a little rocky at first, but improved with every song.  Stanley Jordan really shredded his instrumentals, much better than his last time with Phil, wow!  Box of Rain was a wonderfully sweet version!

2nd set just rocked, many great spaces, Sugaree had a different feel, all in all a fun show.

Happy Birthday Phil!

Donor rap?  Good start there, i tuned on around Eleanor rigby and it sounded really good if you like noodly space.

Look at all the lonely people....

Is it just me or are Joan's vocals a little flat on Shakedown?

Not just you.....

Is the lack of commenting on this show an indication of its quality?

>> Is it just me or are Joan's vocals a little flat on Shakedown?

It's just you.

The vocals on Shakedown were in tune.

The show was all there then some.

If U folks at home feel different, feel free 2 enjoy your negativity.

All good.

...Through March 11, she is performing an all-Dylan cabaret set at Café Carlyle...

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/02/style/joan-osborne-bob-dylan-greenwic...

imo joan's voice is strained.  she was not in her best voice last night but she did a great job

in spite of whatever ailed her.  hoping to hear joan in her best voice tonight.

I was there and left a bit disappointed. The Other One was an absolute train wreck. But happy birthday Phil!

I'm hoping Sideshow shares his thoughts.

the stream was a crisp ustream video that showed the bands fingers more than there faces which was very cool.  then at break there was and hour long video tribute to phil followed by the cake presentation by peter, which was very moving for me.

i was happy to be on couch tour for this one since it showcased sj virtuosity in the first set, so it was not  a rocking show imo.

very cerebral imo.  looking forward to dancing my ass off at the cap tonight with a smoking rocker of a show. yeah!

Looking at the posts before and after yours, it apparently is not just me, Nycdave.

Also - because I have an opinion - I am negative?

I didn't say she sucked - I said she sounded a little flat.

Turn on your lovelight, dude.

Keep it on.

From my observations, Nycdave loves everything Phil does - never a negative review. Considering Phil is 77, I guess he gets a pass.

I gave Phil a pass! My comment was about Joan. lol

"Everything" as in all Phil related.

Phil could fart in a bag and Nycdave would comment that it sounded great.

Can someone put a set list/review in the Show Reviews folder? Thanks.

The show raged....it's not just NYC Dave...sad day on the zone when the lack of commenting relates to how good a show was...maybe peeps just don't give a fuck no more...

the entire first set was flat. and they came out the same way to start the second set, flat.

jk just doesn't fit in....w/ any guitarist, let alone stanley jordan. also the drummer was lost. i bailed at new speedway, so maybe things started to gel after that....

hopefully they get it together for tonight.

I was simply asking a question.  Bunch of touchy folks around here.  If people here ever stop jumping to conclusions it will be a minor miracle.

I've heard opinions that go from bad to great, just looking for some more to get a true idea.

And I love Joan, looking forward to hearing her.  But I didn't think her vocals on that Shakedown (based on the link above) were very good.

Fully expect tonight they do tighten it up some. Having JK step it up some would be a good start.

Flat....sometimes I wonder if peeps r at the same show...broken arrow and box in the same set ...flat......hilarious...

^i wonder the same thing man. strange huh.

Pyramid, did you go last night and are you going thursday or friday.

>>Flat....sometimes I wonder if peeps r at the same show...broken arrow and box in the same set ...flat......hilarious...

Are you familiar with the musical terms sharp and flat?

In my opinion, Joan's Shakedown vocal was flat. It doesn't matter if they played Broken arrow, Box, Dark Star, Anarchy in the UK, 911 is a Joke, Smells Like teen Spirit or Handel's Messiah - or all of them and Muskrat Love as well in the same set. If her notes fall below the key of the song - her vocal is flat. If they were above - she would be sharp. I like Joan. I think she has a great singing voice most of the time. In this instance I thought her vocal sounded flat. Hilarious.

Huge Joan fan here, re listening to Sugaree right now (thanks Quin), ive seen her just crush this song a few times...definitely sounds "off" ....whole song does

Joan belongs on the Wheels of Soul tour.

Susan isn't good enough? You need Joan too?

foghorn-nope, sitting this run out.

Re Joan - Terrapin had me hoping for better, by IKYR I couldn't listen anymore. That's a first for me.

No Susan or Joan with Phil is a good thing. They can keep Sugaree as well.

I like Joan... but Susan? She's like nails on a chalkboard... at least to these amateur ears.

Went to Phil on 3/15.

I agree they were just flat with no "umph" driving this band.

Stanley Jordan is a talented player and he had some amazing moments but there was no jam in this band.

More cerebral type show then a rocker.

I thought perhaps because it was the first night of 3, but I just watched last nights show and still feel the same.

On to JRAD!

Patrick Number 6, I adore Joan, but I've noticed a tendency to sing flat sometimes. Historically, not just the last couple of nights. But I'm very picky about intonation.

Oh, and I was at the show and loved it, warts and all.

Where U at the shoe?  Either way U R entitled 2 an opinion.  I disagree but so what.

Seperate subject.  Phil is a human being,  As such he makes mistakes and is far from perfect.

I can do hypercritical about any subject, I'm just not sure what purpose that serves in this discussion.

I was fortunate 2 C both Berry Oakley and Jaco Pastorius B4 they moved on.

There R other bass players alive today who shine.

Phil's approach is so unique, I have always felt fortunate 2 hear him play.

That's my 2 cents & I'm sticking 2 it.  Feel free 2 bash away.

Everyone but Warren sings Shakedown somewhat flat.  Or bags the melody altogether.  Even Garcia had about a 50% success rate.

That opening line was often brutal.

I was at 3 15 , flat?  no I say the world is round, like this shoe! Listen to phil thumpin that Terrapin....dude is 77..Me And My 89 year old Mom had a great time , the staff at the cap were soo nice thanks to the kindnessty gooddayh staff

Joan's tambourine hanging on the mic stand made it seem for a sec as if SJ was playing a Prince-type axe.

From where I was standing, I thought they played well and I rather enjoyed the show. Sometimes proximity make all the difference.

Pic 3 - Phil is so hot. I said Phil is so hot. How hot is he? He's so hot, his left hand is on fire when he plays.

Sometimes who you are and what you like and don't like does too.

Just because someone else disagrees with you does not mean they are wrong or evil. They just disagree with you about something. That's all.

Thank you Dave. Your photos are very nice. You must have been a few feet to my left.

Nice pix, peeps!

I had the most fun at this of the 3, the energy around Phil's 77th was so happy and festive~

love Love LOVED his weird ass other one the most.

It had the best dancing of the 3, and the trio of instrumentals pleased me well

And: Candles!!!!!!!

I just so fucking much adore that guy

Gee Whiz

Annnnnnnnd

The YANKEE SHIRT!!!!!

I got the last female cut they had in the joint, then, after the show, groundscored one of those swell "PL&F" shirts in a sweet shade of blue (:
