30 Years Ago Today......MSG 9/18/87

Forums:

Was at this show. Dripping with energy. Arguably one of the greatest of that decade and for many the greatest ever seen live.  A total package. Fantastic song selection played very very very well. X factor is strong.  Love the reviews at the bottom of the link.

I love it! This was my first MSG show and first time in NYC.

1987 was a great touring year for me.yesangel

But today is 9/17....

Let the celebrations begin!

By far the best/favorite show that I ever attended

Saw all 5 shows that run and made it in to work the next day after the weekday dates

I picked the wrong year to go to MSG.  I did the nine show 1988 run.  It was pretty much a letdown after how much the place had been hyped, although I did enjoy the experience of being in Manhattan for 2 weeks.

my first was 9/16

where does the time go........

Not where I am sitting

Happy 18th, KK

9/15 was the only show of this run I missed. What a great time. 9/18 was my favorite of the 4 I saw. Great song selection & I loved the Good Lovin'>La Bamba>Good Lovin'.

The run of shows at the Spectrum that followed were great too.

Wasn't this the surprise Olatunji opener show?

I don't remember Olatunji at this one but I do remember one whopping Shakedown Street and mammoth Morning Dew!  This was also my first GD show at MSG and also first time to be let loose on the city with my older brother and friends, including Scottocs.  Walking up and into Times Square with the cranial lightning storm still in full gear is an experience I will never forget.

Olatunji was the Wednesday night show - which contained a great first set Scarlet, and a 2nd set Devil with A Blue Dress.     9/18 was the best of the run - but, to be fair, the first set was oddly short for 1987, and Bird Song was not closing sets at that time, I thought that was weird.

And yes, Herbal Dave, 1988 was absolutely the wrong year for MSG - with superb shows and moments in 81,82,83.87,90, and 91, 1988 was most unmemorable and - despite the length of the run - easily the most pedestrian of all the years they played there.  bummer!

Even my parents went to this show, to see what it was that my brother and I were so enthralled with.

Dumbasses left at setbreak and missed the Set II Shakedown opener!

In for all five.

great second set

the Dew>>>Good Lovin>>>>>Bamba combo is an all timer.

17 years old and the world ahead of me..what a fantastic night.. I love the Birdsong in this show, Brent adds little flourishes after each vocal line then ramps it up during the jam..I usually eat my pre-season Rangers Tix, but I'm heading into MSG tonight jut to be where I was 30 years ago..pretty corny I know, but what the hell..

Loved this show in my top 10 if not top 5 out of hundreds attended

Funny how every deadhead, especially me, has a list of his top 5 shows and that list of top 5 come from a revolving list  of 25  top 5 shows.  indecision

isn't life grand!!!!!

LMFAO

Seriously Don.....A year ago I was gonna start a thread with that theme. Your top 5 shows of your 15 favorite revolving top 5 shows. Before posting it I had to come up with my top 15 shows.  I started but before long i had listed about 30 shows and I only got up to 1987.  I held on to that list for a long time intending to one day complete it.  Never did.

Man, that Dew blows me away every fucking time. Damn...
