3 Dog Night

Forums:

White-boy homies could sing. In case you ever had a "shag" haircut or wore bell bottoms.

You know who you are...

saw them free in our podunk town before moving away

had a helluva time !

In the same podunk town, we sang Joy to the World in my fifth grade music class at about the time the song was in the Top 40.

aws i was prolly in ...1st...grade?

They made some royalties for other artists like Randy Newman, Hoyt Axton, Otis Redding, and others as they recorded their songs, and made hits of a few. Probably paid a few bills for them. Fan of and "Eli's Coming" for sure.

I saw them get strip searched at the Eugene airport once...  loved the poodle hairdos (the poodle bites, come on frenchie)

Later, we wound up on the same flight (a short Horizon flight), there were 6 sound men also on the plane i'd just worked with at the Country Fair, so the plane was half full, with everyone being in the music biz...   it became a party real quick!

"Captured Live at the Forum" (from 7/14/69) is a pretty kicking album.

Nasty story.  Chuck Negron used to incessantly screw skanky groupies and got all sorts of venereal problems.  He went to the doctor who told him he needed to stop it for a while or he would have serious problems.  Dude didn't listen and one night his penis literally exploded and the Three Dog Night front man had to wrap up the bloody mess in a towel and get hauled off the nearest hospital, where by all accounts, they were able to save the singer's member.

^ There's dirt- and then there's the exploding penis detail I never knew. A regular one-man-band. Dang.

They never really did anything for me. Eli and Joy are OK, but I never got off on most of those big slow cover songs.

Oh well.

In the early 90's, I stumbled upon 3-Dog Night playing on a flatbed truck, next to a lake near Rochester where we had been boating. It was some type of free summer festival.

An older biker "gang" was in attendance and 3 of the women (Rosanne Barr types) were whipping out their massive floppy stretch-marked and tattood boobs, flashing the band each song, much to the confusion and horror of locals and families who were also milling about.

I pondered the question whether this happens at all 3-Dog Night shows or if was just a special occurrence.

Three Pup Sight?

Well, I guess it would be six puppies unless they were Amazon bikers. smiley

Turned on to them by my counselors at overnight camp.  Ordered a few of their cassettes from the Columbia House Record Club.

Chuck Negron used to incessantly screw skanky groupies>>>>

Former Three Dog Night singer Chuck Negron, has experienced quite a lot in his seven decades, from hit records to drug addiction. But one event stands out to anyone who has read his autobiography, the night his penis exploded while sexing with a beauty queen. Ouch!!!

The candid Negron said “I think it was Miss Oklahoma and we ended up spending the night together and in the middle of the sex, it was like a hot dog splitting and you know, I found myself in the emergency room with my penis in my hand waiting to be stitched up.”
The injury was caused by his drug use and excessive sex, and so Negron put the story in his book so others might learn from his mistakes.

I saw chuck negron headline a 60's group show in Daytona back before the pandemic. He was real good and the band of youngsters backing him were pretty good. He sang well considering he has copd.

They seemed to be featured in every TV Mail-order compilation of early-70s hits commercial.  It's hard to get that vision of them and their poodle hair-cuts out of your head, usually singing "One", "Liar" or "Joy To The World".

For my ears, their finest moment was their cover of the little-known songwriter Daniel Moore's "Shambala".  I was eight when it came out, and was an avid listener of Top-40 radio.  As a #3 pop chart hit, it got a lot of airplay.  Just another pop nugget from that magical time in the pre-Disco days.

I bought their first album- I liked the guitar riff on  "Nobody ".

Traded it in about a year or two later- it was over.

Chuck Negron's Penis

great name for a punk band

I think Warhol already covered it with The Exploding Plastic Inevitable.

That was before viagra.

I was twelve when Mama Told Me came out. I dug it and still do.

Chuck Negron and Three Dog Night both still tour separately. Usually do the summer outdoor show/fair circuit. Last time I saw Chuck his voice was pretty bad. Unfortunately he lost his pipes now.
