24 bit > 16 bit?

Forums:

I've  been coming across some torrents that are in 24, specifically Charlie Miller's Voodoo Dead shows.

Does anyone know an easy way to convert these from 24 to 16?

Yeah, download the 16 bit versions

Load up 24s Here ^^ It Automatically converts them smiley

Thanks!

As far as downloading them in 16, do you really think I would ask how to convert if that were possible at the time?

also with CD Burner XP you don;t even need traders  little helper  just load the files 24 or 16 to CDBXP for Auto conversions !

I have always feared being an idiot by asking this Q:

Is 24 better?

I have a couploe of shows that I converted to WAV in both 16 and 24....I ended up with some 24s by downloading "projects" to complete some years.

My undrstanding is that the 16 is for CDs.

I haven't listened to them yet to try to tell the diff...

anybody have insight?

^ it's a never ending debate

As you can see in the comments above there is no 16 bit versions of these shows...yet.

Download a program called jriver. It's free for 30 days it can dither a 24 bit. If u need help let me know

For anyone that may be interested, I found an answer to my original query.

I used TLH to decode the 24 bit files into WAV 24s.

I then opened those files in Audacity, which automatically converts (and saves) them to 16/44. You then export them as WAVs, overwrite the original 24s in your source folder, and you now have 16 bit files for burning to CD.

A little labor intensive, but free.

I might add that the May CM VooDoo Dead show kicks some ass. So does the Dweezil Zappa sbd from earlier this year I pulled off of dime, also a 24 bit...
